Q: Tag synonyms for denial-of-service

DennisSince the DOS tag is ambiguous, I've just created the denial-of-service tag. I already started retagging a few questions. The problem is that denial-of-service won't appear as a possible choice when somebody starts typing dos (or ddos) in the "Tags" field. To fix this, I'd like these two tag sy...

@JourneymanGeek and @studiohack does anyone know how to hack a wifi?

"hack a wifi"?
got an axe?

Hahahaha not yet.

Hah

It is just a bet with my friend to hack his wifi.

Apparently I visted SO yesterday during their moderator election thingy. It got me the "Caucus" badge, but I never heard of it before. The notification said I got the badge for an election, and the way that sounded was that I was nominated as a moderator on SO. I was confused since I don't participate on there too much at all. :P

4:13 AM
get backtrack. read up on it.

What do you think about "Backtrack" will it

the tools you need are there
ya, but you need to learn to use it
and hope he uses WEP
WPA is a pain to crack

Can you mention any tool?
I will check that its WPA or WEP
@JourneymanGeek have to go now but I'll talk to you on this later sure. After all its a bet and I'm a SU now.............;)

Bob
@nhinkle What is it? (or add it to the issue tracker) :P

Yeah I'm putting it on github
it's regarding insecure content

Bob
Probably the most glaring bug right now is ... being converted to $$²$$

O_o

Bob
No idea :P

Cleaning my office at cadets... Wanted to chat

hmm.. wanted to chat

I am setting up a ubuntudino twitter account though :P

6:53 AM
@avirk well I made the image if that's what you meant
@Luke ohai. How goes the office cleaning?
I'm studying for a health final. Not the most fun thing ever.

@nhinkle Well, I just found a taser randomly :S
I have no idea what it's doing at cadets... They're all in bed right now, we have an inspection on Monday evening... It's midnight here

A taser?
o_O

DO NOT TASE ME BRO!

What's "cadets"? You in some sort of military training or something?

7:00 AM
It's a youth version, but there's no fighting. We teach leadership, citizenship, drill, seamanship, etc to youth. My organization has nothing to do with the military though, whereas the next level up, the officers are members of the reserve forces in Canada
But I'm serious, what the hell is a tazer doing here? Taser... God damn Firefox, which one is right
The kids are 9-13 years old...

A Taser (often marketed as TASER) is a brand name and registered trademark of Taser International. The word most often refers to an electroshock weapon marketed by that company which uses electrical current to disrupt voluntary control of muscles. The device functions by affecting "neuromuscular incapacitation" and the devices' mechanism "Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) technology". Someone struck by a Taser experiences stimulation of his or her sensory nerves and motor nerves, resulting in strong involuntary muscle contractions. Tasers do not rely only on pain compliance, except when u...
Taser.
Though you'd still say "don't taze me bro," not "don't tase me"

woah, taser?

The latter sounds too much like "don't taste me" which is just weird and uncomfortable.

@nhinkle Agreed.

@Luke: american vs proper spelling ;p

7:02 AM
@nhinkle 500+ flags? Is that normal or what?

Taser's a brand name.
There's no such thing as an "american" or "proper" spelling
@jokerdino it was chrome web inspector for dramatic effect :P

Doues it matter? Four Canadian spelling, we just add a "U" after all the O's

@Luke Ouuch.

Just like Frisbee being a flying disc brand.
@nhinkle Should have expected that :p

@jokerdino *Shouuld

7:05 AM
O_O

@Luke you mean @joukerdinou

THANK YOU JOURNEYMAN!

This is getting out of hand..

Now, take that quote... All the O's are followed by "U"s

> YOU JOURNEYMAN
if you noutice
bwahah ninja'd by @Luke

7:07 AM
:-D

@JourneymanGeek when it comes to brand names, there isn't. It's Taser Corporation. Not Tazer Corporation. No matter where you live.
(That was my pouint)

thinks the Gentlemen ouver at English Language and Usage will be yeling blasphemy reading the abouve transcript

@nhinkle We know, but if we don't take it one step further (read: 32 steps further), we aren't doing our proper jobs :)

I'm sourely tempted tou change all youur usernames to Jouurneyman and Joukerdinou
3
And Louke, just for the hell of it

there;fixed :P

7:09 AM
@nhinkle i don't approve of that.

Do it to my last name, it just sounds weird as my first name :P Baroune
+1 @Sathya

Ouk, I suppouse sou

I gotta be up in 6 hours, and I haven't cleaned much since I found that taser (r) (c) (tm) (patent pending) in my office
One of these days, I gotta sleep

Sleep is overrated

7:20 AM
You sound like my boss

lol

My boss tells me he only gets 3 or so hours of sleep a night, cause he spends the rest of his time programming or helping out Microsoft... He does research for them as well apparently
And he goes to bed at 3am, wakes up at 6, then just goes into work until it opens... Then he's up for the entire shift... Then goes home and programs more
His excuse for waking up early is that he's done sleeping
Wait... You don't live in Canada, right?

nope

Nope.

nope

7:25 AM
Who do you work for/where do you work? Your boss sounds ridiculous. Is this related to your not-military thing?

@nhinkle Nope, my not-military thing is strictly volunteer... Keeps me from serving when war will eventually break out and we're sent in with sticks and white flags
I'm a computer tech during the day, and that's when I spend most of my time in the chat
I work for DDR Computers though
Does NOT stand for what you think though

@Luke LOL - canada at war: "We have big sticks, and white flags for when those don't work out against drones and nukes"

David Donald Ronald Computers. Oldest computer shop in our city, 20 years this year
@nh
@nhinkle Pretty much... Ever see Canada's navy?

@Luke Ish. They send a couple ships down for our rose festival every year

@nhinkle Are you on the west or east coast?

7:29 AM
who thinks this is not a spam and warrants an answer? askubuntu.com/questions/148812/…
and don't ask me why it got 7 downvotes but not 6 spam flags.

West coast. Portland Rose Festival. They're there right now.

Same here, in BC

(that's an older picture)
(also, not mine)

I wqas on the HMCS Calgary and HMCS Ottowa... And I think the HMCS Winippeg

Down here or up there? Are you in Vancouver?

7:35 AM
I visited Esquimalt, the Naval base in Victoria (BC's capitol)

Ah, cool. I was in Victoria when I was about 9. Took the ferry from WA.
Vaguely remember seeing a few navy ships, but nothing particular.

You know what's weird about Canada?
They have flashing green traffic signals

lol
that is wierd

What the heck is flashing green supposed to mean?

7:39 AM
tho the brits have a RED AMBER GREEN AMBER RED scheme

@JourneymanGeek what's that supposed to be for?

Flashing green = Always green, pedestrian controlled light though

@nhinkle: wait, pedestrian or wassname?

Is it like yellow = about to turn green?

@nhinkle: amber = Light is going to change

7:40 AM
@JourneymanGeek the thing you said

Flashing amber = crosswalk, be award
aware

Ah. Well that kind of makes sense.

amber = warning, its going to turn green here

Flashing red = 4 way stop. Stop, check both ways, then goes
SOLID amber is that here

@Luke we have flashing yellow 'round here (slow down/watch out), and flashing red (not even always for 4-way). But flashing green is definitely a Canada thing

7:40 AM
flashing red here = the damned traffic light is broken, use your brain.

LOL. That does happen at some intersections every once in a while.
we also have flashing yellow arrow now, which means "you can turn if nobody's coming, but you don't have right of way"
9
A: What does a flashing yellow arrow traffic signal mean?

nhinkleFlashing yellow arrows have been introduced in the US recently to help ease congestion at intersections. This signal should be treated similar to a yield sign or a turn lane not controlled by its own traffic signal. If there is no oncoming traffic, you may make a left turn if it is safe to do so,...

Flashing Yellow ARROW? We don't got those here

we have this awesome traffic signal in India.. which are turned off to save electricity
3

It's pretty new. Pretty useful, actually.
@jokerdino now there's a useful signal

Absolutely. Everyone loves those things.

7:44 AM
Well, it's time four me tou gou tou bed. 'night foulks!

good night!

@nhinkle *tou
Gnight!
So, who else wants to learn about Canada, eh? How about Poutines?

I want to hear about Just for Laugh Gags. How the hell are people so naive?

@jokerdino They coordinate with the RCMP (the popo for the gangsters) to allow them to use their uniforms for most

I see. But it is pretty easy to figure out most right? After being on air for so long..

7:50 AM
Why don't people know the Cash Cab? Why don't people know "What would you do?" Not all of them are oblivious, they just air the best ones

That kinda makes sense. But, I could sense Canadians are mostly gentle and kind.

It's like that with all reality shows

Right.

What is India's GMT offset?

GMT +5.30 actually

7:54 AM
So it's 14:30?

13.30 atm

Right, DST... It's almost 1:00am here

good night then.

I got paperwork to finish... I can't get my office clean right now
I'll go in a bit though

cool

7:56 AM
@nhinkle Haha, it's just reloading Root Access whenever I turn on my Mac, so that's why you guys see me but I'm not actually there :P

@slhck Just missed him

@Luke Aaah, I see. Oh well!

@Sathya I now fully know how you feel when your flags are dismissed.
Just had a spam migrated to meta.

We were going over Canadian Spelling, although it has mostly passed

@jokerdino If you mean that, meta.askubuntu.com/questions/3367/…, how is that spam?
@Luke There's "Canadian" spelling?

7:58 AM
check revision.

I FOUND THE GAVEL!
@slhck Check around 40-60 minutes ago in the logs... Lol
I found a taser, and it just got out of control from there

haha, oh dear
@jokerdino Oh, what a bummer.

59 mins ago, by Luke
But I'm serious, what the hell is a tazer doing here? Taser... God damn Firefox, which one is right
Read from there and down, @slhck

@slhck I lost hope. Really.

@jokerdino India follows British spellings in English, right? Colour, not color, right?

8:01 AM
@Luke haha, brilliant … wait until @Bob comes to bless us with proper Australian English

@slhck What's that? Adding M8?

@Luke yeah BrE.

That's one thing I like about meeting people across the world, you learn bits and pieces about other cultures :)

Bob
@slhck G'day, mate!

hahaha :D

8:02 AM
Morning @Bob

Bob
Funny how the Firefox Australian English dictionary doesn't recognise G'day.

@Bob Sounds like Firefox is broken for you too... Taser and Tazer are incorrect

Bob
Hmm.. taxer or tares?
:P

Nope... Lol
Anyways, I'm getting exhausted, I'll chat tomorrow sometime. Gnight all!

Night @Luke

Bob
8:04 AM
Night!
@Luke For the record, it's about 6 PM :P

And they didn't have flashing yellow traffic lights in the U.S. until recently?
That's news to me
And see, now I'm learning about "general", "broad" and "cultivated" Australian accents

Bob
My accent probably isn't recognisably Australian :P

Heh
I just can't understand non-rhotic English dialects
So whenever I'm in London I'm all like "What's that? Pardon me?"

I am gonna stay low.

Bob
@slhck What's the difference? :P
The Wikipedia explianantion goes over my head ('rs are not pronounced? What?) :P

8:15 AM
rhotic folks pronounce r. others don't.

Bob
@jokerdino That makes no sense to me.

@Bob bah :(

Bob
Though apparently AuE is generally non-rhotic, so I'll just say that's what I use (I guess?)
o.O

A: How do I open SQL Server Management Studio?

Mark Robin Search google: sql server management studio download 2008 OR go to http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=7593 Download and Install.

@Bob Think of a typical Redneck slang in contrast to Cockney English

@Bob you mean you don't stress on the R?

8:20 AM
"I drove my car" vs. "I drove my caaa"

"dvove my caaa" actually
or whatever

Bob
@slhck Which is which? :P

car is rhotic IIRC

@jokerdino Not quite since it's followed by a vowel

the ending r isn't supposed to be too stressed right?
So no one of you wanted to delete this post (which is pretty obvious spam)? — slhck 23 mins ago

8:23 AM
@jokerdino Yeah, that's a good example.. "car" vs. "caa", "bar" vs. "baa" etc

heh :/
@slhck i don't think i would have problem understanding that bit.
i usually pick stuff from context more often.

@jokerdino Well, could have been "just" a bad post

Less than likely, but I take your point.
and how can you post two links ?

Bob
@slhck Ok, I guess I speak with a rhotic accent :\
I dunno

@jokerdino two are allowed

8:29 AM
hmm you are right. new user restrictions says so.

Bob
@slhck I actually don't see the reason for that restriction.
If someone is spamming, it's spam. Doesn't matter if it's zero, one or a hundred links.

they could slip in a spam among legit links.

@Bob It'd even be more obvious with a hundred links
Same goes for images. If spammers were allowed to post images, that'd be more obvious and even killed faster
So yeah, that restriction is totally unnecessary

@Luke yep

Nope. We now use a forked version of BrE.

8:38 AM
I thought that this was familiar (10k)

Bob
@slhck Images could be a problem..
You don't really want NSFW content appearing blatantly :P

perhaps the spammers could tag it NSFW :P

@Bob Hmm yeah, that's true

Bob
9:15 AM
This is not a forum, so if you have a new question, please ask a new question using the big button above. — slhck 2 hours ago
@slhck I don't think the button is obvious enough :P

WE NEED BIGGER BUTTONS

Bob
O.O

@bob is Asus trademarked to ASUS?

Bob
> Oh tin of pink meat / I ponder what you may be / Snout or ear or feet?
@jokerdino Yes, it is

and someone broke win 7 being edited to Windows 7.

Bob
9:37 AM
Hey @JourneymanGeek, does this look familiar?
There is something very very very very wrong with that post.

lol

AGHHHHHHHH
no one's complained about my edits so far i see

Bob
Does that match any particular form of poetry?

hehe, we have to strip of all stupid <br>

Bob
@jokerdino slhck has already done it :P

9:46 AM
is it in the script?

Bob
Nope.

ok

Bob
If it were replaced with markdown, the problem remains (there shouldn't be line breaks there).
If it were removed outright, that could break legitimate formatting.

good point there.

lol
optional <br> replacement would be nice
