@mbriand the premise of the question alone was a turn off

Q: Why is reputation capped at 200 per day?

briddumsFrom the Help Center: You can earn a maximum of 200 reputation per day from any combination of the activities below. Bounty awards, accepted answers, and association bonuses are not subject to the daily reputation limit. Why is there a limit on the amount of reputation that can be gained pe...

@gatherer818 I just made a major edit to your post

goes to see

I wanted to write a DW answer but you beat me to it so I folded the content I wouldve added into it
I kept 90 percent of what you wrote, simply expanding it and adding some more links and section headers

So that meta Q shouldn't it be closed as dupe of a meta stack exchange question?

Q: What is the reasoning behind the reputation cap?

Graeme PerrowThere has been a lot of talk about the daily reputation cap and what counts and what doesn't count and so on. But why is there a cap at all? I've seen lots of questions about whether the cap number should be changed, or whether certain things should or should not apply to the cap, but I've never ...

Can't close meta questions as dupes of MSE questions, unfortunately

user61230
There haven't been enough use-cases to justify it.

I dont mind it
it lets you reference within the site first and then if theres still beef you can reference out to MSE

user61230
Feel free to just post a minimal answer with a few sentences as summary, and a link back to MSE, though.

As usual, your edits make me very happy ^_^ thank you.
....I always forget to tag my chat posts if they reference back more than a line or two :/

hah its fine
still here

bleh. I hate that comments lock after a few minutes, I just noticed an incorrect fact in one of my comments. It's not directly related to the answer (or I'd edit it into the answer and fix it in the move), but still, it irritates :P

@gatherer818 itd be nice it were a day but comment history isnt viewable except at the 20k rep and above level
so itd be easy to be an edit ninja if you had a bigger window

fair enough. I get why, it just bugs. I just worded something poorly and don't feel like deleting the comment and reposting it corrected :P

user61230
(comment history isn't saved, as far as we know)

yeah I feel that way too often enough
@Emrakul or yeah theres that
I couldnt remember if it went that way or not and spoke without double checking on the more conservative side
@Emrakul thank you for the correction!

user61230
No prob'm! :]

10:13 PM
does rep on the meta site carry over to the main site?
I have so little experience with the meta side :P digs into rep history

user61230
Meta rep on per-site-metas is equal to your main site rep, and updates every so often (I think it's an hour?)

user61230
Meta rep on Meta.SE acts as it does on any other site

So, upvotes/accepts on the RPG.SE meta don't add to my RPG.SE rep, right?

user61230
Yup!

thank you ^_^

Magic missile!
.... /me hangs head in shame.
Next privilege: 1990/2000 ^_^ so close.

user61230
Editing's a significant one

indeed. I don't often submit edits to other user's posts, unless a new question is just unreadable or something, so it's a little intimidating, but used responsibly it's a useful thing.

@Emrakul, others, can I get you to check something over for reasonable levels of professionalism?

@Lord_Gareth happily ^_^

user61230
@Lord_Gareth Stern, but not uninviting to discussion. Comes across under the assumption that you know more about the intricacies of the system, but not in a bad way. (And, let's be honest, you probably do.)

@Emrakul Jaid provides some very valuable critique, and I trust his/her judgment almost all the time. The thing is...Wilder's a problem child
And it's a problem child because it is in almost every sense a strictly inferior psion
Including the thematic sense, since you can use the Overchannel feat to make a "wilder" that is more capable of fulfilling its thematic niche
Hence why I got kind of...irked...about her going, "The features you gave up for this just aren't that nice."
No, really? Tell me more about the exact problem I'm trying to fix.
I had not realized

user61230
Yeah. I can see in a general sense how creating a strictly inferior archetype in Pathfinder would be significantly problematic. On the specifics of how this is implemented, I'll be honest, I'm a little lost.

I needed a minute because I wanted to get the context of the discussion, not just the one post. It looks fine to me, despite my utter inexperience with PF psionics. Professional enough for a dev post on a forum, by far. (Especially if comparing to PF dev posts on Paizo's forums...)

user61230
I see what you mean, though. It doesn't come across as a dismissal, at least how I read it.

10:49 PM
@Emrakul Wilder's a 20-level "full caster" class, one of 2 in PF psionics
Psion being the other one
Wilder gets better BAB (that they don't use), more hit points (that are not relevant), surge blast (strictly inferior to weapon attacks and also you'll never use it you are a freaking caster), and a scattering of very small abilities
And then Wild Surge
Which is REALLY COOL except that it comes with a built-in Russian Roulette minigame
In exchange for all of this, it:
- Learns less than half the powers Psion gets
- Doesn't get the cool discipline powers Psion gets
- Learns all of its powers 1 level late
So it's a caster that lost almost all of its caster features in exchange for a pile of crap that will never be relevant to its life, plus three abilities that will be

user61230
will be...? but I think I know where you're going.

user61230
To me, it honestly doesn't sound like it's out-of-line as a professional, the way it's worded. Just a little stern, and comes across a touch as 'I know more about why this is than you do.'

so, it's the Sorcerer to the Psion's Wizard, except it gets all the stuff that would make sorcerers fun to play if only they got them (a crossbow sorcerer with 3/4 BAB and a way to augment their bolts with magic would be amazing, I'm hoping for somerthing like that when I pick up a copy of ACG)

@gatherer818 Ah, sorcerer got bloodline powers dude

I think the weirdness in that post is that the two of you are arguing on the same side, but still sorta arguing.

10:56 PM
Fair enough, thank you
@Emrakul Well, okay. It's like, Psion gets abilities that either augment its powers, or provide interesting non-power uses for your actions that turn, right? Wilder doesn't, except for a few abilities that either directly augment its powers or help it when using psionic items
So while Psion gets a bunch of super castery stuff
Wilder gets...barbarian rage
Y'kinda see?

bloodline powers are pretty good, yes, and the reason I sometimes make a sorcerer when I want a theme that can't be easily defined with a school of magic. ^_^

user61230
Yeah.

user61230
Stuff that isn't consistently useful, or is only vaguely useful in edge cases.

user61230
Or is good, but isn't frequently applicable

Indeed
Part of what I've been working to do with this supplement is give Wilder an identity besides 'redheaded stepkid'

user61230
11:00 PM
(I'm going to be driving home, 'pologies)

@Emrakul Yeah, you better run.

@Lord_Gareth Four.
Psion, Wilder, Tactician, Vitalist.

@Metool One of these days I should try a game that includes Psionics.

@Miniman I loved 2e Psionics and hope one day we get something similar again; maybe 5e will bring it back.

@gatherer818 Yeah, I'm interested to see how fast splatbooks appear for 5e.

11:09 PM
I have played with and largely disliked 3e's psionics, I haven't looked at Pathfinder's at all...

The main reason I started DM-ing was because with the current state of 5e it's actually possible to have a clue. If I ever DM 3.5 I'd have to restrict it to Core.

@gatherer818 Evilcannotcomprehendgood.gif

@doppelgreener Hi!

@Miniman Hello!

@Lord_Gareth no comprendo

11:13 PM
@gatherer818 You spelled it, 'I loved 2e psionics' but my brain parsed it, 'I enjoy stapling rabid ferrets to my nether regions'.
2
2e psionics were a mess

they were, but that was before I played 3.5 and started caring so much about crap like "balance" and "rules as written". What was fun was making first level characters with access to either Dominate or Detonate ^_^
"A pair of archers support the bandits from atop the hill." "I blow up their bows" "You.. what? Um..."

@gatherer818 Tread lightly, mortal. Those are the things I call 'design standards'.
Maybe more importantly, it's a longstanding argument that deserves treating with courtesy and delicacy
As we've had issues with posters swagging into the chat telling people they're having badwrongfun

I'm not understanding you. Are you saying it's wrong for me to like 2e psionics?

@gatherer818 Is it wrong to enjoy stapling rabid ferrets to one's nether regions?
I think we all know the answer...

@Miniman probably, but in the handful of states where it's not yet illegal, we certainly have more fun :D

11:19 PM
@gatherer818 No, I'm saying that this phrasing: "but that was before I played 3.5 and started caring so much about crap like "balance" and "rules as written". " <-Comes off as condescending

Ah, I suppose I can see that, although the fact is I DO care about game balance and RAW, especially in 3.5 and Pathfinder. Still, games where they're less important can be fun, too, especially when you're in a bit of a rut in more formalized games.

@gatherer818 Well yeah sure, you just play a system made for it.
Window, Dread, etc

Q: Why Do We Have Porny Spam Ads On Our Site Now?

mxyzplkI was looking at a question and suddenly under each question title we have a rotating deceptively-part-of-the-questiony-looking link, bringing up a variety of questionable content. Spyware, porn, weight loss scams, credit scams, the whole deal. Have we been hacked or is this a spectacular lack...

right. Or 2e, for that matter. I love PF for it's standardization and strict adherence to RAW; everyone can come to the table knowing EXACTLY what to expect from their own abilities and equipment. The adventure, of course, may throw whatever rules get in the way out the window, but at least you don't have to ask the GM for his interpretation of all your powers before you can figure out if you like them.

@gatherer818 Oh man don't let Paizo catch you saying that about their system.
Caring about RAW in PF? Sounds like BADWRONGFUN to them :p

11:26 PM
I... what?

[wishes he was kidding]
You remember when I said there's ongoing arguments on this site about the value of RAW?
The PF community is essentially the battleground for that.
@BESW can provide swearing-free context

the PF community might be, but the PF Society has a single stance and refuses to budge :P

PFS isn't Pathfinder. It's supported house rules.
It's also very much not really RAW
And if you don't believe me roll an illusionist sometime

really? I only brave their parts of the Paizo forums rarely, but that was not the impression I received. Adjudicating illusions is unfortunately not something RAW can ever, ever tell you how to do... and we just won't mention the charm person fiasco.
....I kinda wish Catalyst Games would look at Paizo's example of a) playtesting before releasing rulebooks, and b) issuing errata when major sections of something are broken. There are still LOTS of things Paizo should probably errata, but Pathfinder is playable, at least... looks at SR5

@gatherer818 Keep doing that and you'll go blind.
@doppelgreener Incidentally, how's the excel going?

11:38 PM
@miniman indeed. I'm scrapping my Technomancer because my GM and I simply can't agree on the most basic principles of how the Matrix works. I'm making a medic (who completely abuses the rules, because they deserve it)

@gatherer818 I think that's SR's biggest problem - there are 3 different worlds to play in, and at least 1 party member will generally be in each.

@gatherer818 wait wut.
Paizo doesn't playtest anything
they host publicity stunts
they ban people for criticizing anything too hard during them
and change little
as for errata, they do that almost never
and abuse their FAQ for stealth-erratas

@JoshuaAslanSmith Yes, Shoggoth on the Roof is a direct song-for-song parody of Fiddler.

Took 2 years for Ultimate Combat errata
And they fixed nearly nothing

and if it weren't for d20PFSRD.com (which is not their site), those FAQ entries would be near-impossible to find or apply

11:41 PM
@gatherer818 You re-opened the can of infinite purple worms. This could take a while.
2

Wow, your experience and mine seem to be completely different. Yeah, now I'm seeing why I'm not allowed to like 2e in here. :P

@Lord_Gareth re: large Russian men committing violence, I suggest another option:

I suppose I'm out, I can't seem to help but stir up trouble this week

@gatherer818 Whoa back that train up.
No one said that. I said 2e psionics were a mess. Woooorld of difference here.

I didn't say anything about 2e or psionics

11:43 PM
I will further state that you couldn't get me to go back to 2e at gunpoint, but that doesn't mean liking the system is wrong or bad. It means that I do not find it to fit my gaming needs

@gatherer818 You're allowed to like 2e, just not Pathfinder :P

...I wonder what system to use for a Moderator Thunderdome game.
Probably Cthulhu Dark.

What gets KRyan & I into world-ending rages is when people misrepresent the strengths and weaknesses of a system
Also Paizo as a company, because screw those guys

So, main strength of Pathfinder - it's free. Main weakness - you get what you pay for. Boom, non-mis-represented.
Don't star that, I have no basis whatsoever for saying it. I haven't even played Pathfinder.

@Miniman And it kinda misrepresents free games as a whole. Cthulhu Dark, Lady Blackbird, Fate Core...
...why is my typing indicator script pinging for me? [pokes things]

11:49 PM
@BESW D&D Basic (don't shoot me!)

@Miniman [warning shots]

@BESW It's not you I'm worried about.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAARKNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSS
[Snuffs the sun]
[Stalks @Miniman]

That's OK, I can Hide as a bonus action.
Because I play 5e

[does not know the counters for stealth in 5e because he's a 4e grognard]

11:52 PM
@Zachiel perception checks and area attacks, just like 4e :)
(also tremorsense)

Ah tremorsense
A problem that got solved two editions ago, then returned to being a problem

(hows it a problem again?)
(more broadly, I see lots of things stated to be problems as if thats a postulate, something isn't a problem unless you actually show it to be such)

@waxeagle in 3.5? Randomly invalidating stealth as an idea, ease of humanoid access makes stealth increasingly hard to do as a /thing/, which narrows narrative space and makes players that like stealth sads. Thankfully, 3.5 has Darkstalker for that
I cannot state if all of the above is still true in 4e given that antagonists have a VERY CLEAR separation from protagonists

@Lord_Gareth and they did that same invalidating thing to illusions, telling lies, disguise through polymorph, mind control and death effects.
Did I miss some?
@Lord_Gareth 4e stealth? good luck getting hidden in a square that's not where they last saw you

I'm half-seriously considering making a side chat called D&Derp for this stuff.
