@I don't know who I am. What was your previous username?

No no not over. In here legal matter is dragged :D it actually started in 2019. But yes it is a learning phase for me too. Like how to carry yourself when you have no weapons to fight, when you are falsely accused. Thankfully I get advice from a few fellow victims. At least now I can deal with my lawyers better, because I know the law a bit. It's all about knowledge, and it's power :-) but only problem is finance, and not able to execute the plan to secure a better future financially.

And the administration, police, law enforcing bodies are making it more troublesome. They just need money, will absorb even the last penny out of you, scaring you, and not helping you at all. Though it is not that even after taking money they will work for you honestly. It is pretty much same story almost for all the males who are victim of these false legal cases
Aug 21, 2021 00:27
@EddieKal about my personal life? Yes I am pretty devastated and hence get little time to spare. Though I have time, I spend it worrying about how to go about the false legal allegations made against me. Though it is not surprising considering the proliferation of similar false cases registered against male throughout the country. It's the immence power bestowed on the women that they are misusing.

@Cerberus I too. But the problem is to access the correctness of including "work" in comparative clause. I would have called the inclusion a bad grammar or even a mistake. But after reading the correctness of keeping "afraid" in the comparative clause, made me confused.
Sep 7, 2021 16:09
The explanation behind why the first is correct is written in the question. If we analyse the last sentence the way way, can we say it is also right?
Sep 7, 2021 16:08
> She can get through more work in an hour than [I can get through __ work in a day].
Sep 7, 2021 16:08
Is the following also correct?
Sep 7, 2021 16:07
> He is more afraid of her than [she is __ afraid of him]. -> CORRECT

Q: Comparative Construction - She can get through more work in an hour than I can get through in a day

Man_From_IndiaI was reading the Comparative Construction Chapter from The Cambridge Grammar of the English Language by Pullum and Huddlestone. There on page 1109, I came across one sentence: He is more afraid of her than [she is __ of him]. It is written there that the contrast lies not in the head of the co...

Can anyone help me here?
Sep 4, 2021 03:17
@Cerberus yes all that ... that is used as an adverbial. In today's English as far as I have seen this is used as a complement.
Sep 4, 2021 02:28
Thank you. Any such usage of "all" in othe example sentences?
Sep 4, 2021 02:20
What does ot function? And meaning? Does it mean "as hard as it could" which is what it says in that forum. But if that is the case what is the function of that part in the original sentence?
Sep 4, 2021 02:19
Now I have problem understanding"all that he could to bring him closer part"?

> He had rigged his harpoon long before and its coil of light rope was in a round basket and the end was made fast to the bitt in the bow. The fish was coming in on his circle now calm and beautiful looking and only his great tail moving. **The old man pulled on him all that he could to bring him closer**. For just a moment the fish turned a little on his side. Then he straightened himself and began another circle. [From: Ernest Hemingway

I found it on another forum. I don't know if it is okay to ask similar questions from another forum. But it is purely for language purpose.

@Cerberus in BNC I found almost no hit for "objective is/waa verb+ing". Only a few when we have a modifier before "objective" like "primary/main" etc.

Aug 22, 2021 14:12
But I have found examples without "to be"too.
Aug 22, 2021 14:09
In an old book by AS Hornby it is written that "to be" can't be omitted.
Aug 22, 2021 14:08
how do this two sound?

Q: Difference between "to develop" vs "developing"

Rolando GonzalesWhat is the difference between: The objective of the project is to develop a framework Versus: The objective of the project is developing a framework Is any of them incorrect?

Aug 22, 2021 14:07
@Cerberus Remember the discussion about "objective + [be] + verb-ing"? It seems like there is some difference in usage between BrE and AmE.
Aug 18, 2021 15:50
@Cerberus yes AmE corpus. And thank you for your valuable comment there under the question.
Aug 18, 2021 15:45
@Cerberus good finding. Btw did you check COCA?
Aug 18, 2021 15:38
In the morning I quickly ran a search on COCA like this probably "the objective [be] vvg" and found nothing good there. @Cerberus
Aug 18, 2021 15:34
Yup but now that you said "the objective of the project is developing a framework" is good, it doesn't go well with my findings on COCA
Aug 18, 2021 15:32
From COCA I furnished some example sentences over there in my comment. And it seems it can.
Aug 18, 2021 15:31
nods
Aug 18, 2021 15:30
Yes I don't agree with what grammatical point he made in his answer.
Aug 18, 2021 15:29
But another probablyly BrE user thinks verb+ing is wrong. So a little confused. And that why I asked you if you are native to BrE or AmE
Aug 18, 2021 15:27
My finding is that when "objective" is preceded by a genitive pronoun like "our/my objective" you can use "verb+ing", still rare. But "the objective" as it is is almost never used with "verb+ing", except in conversation, that too rarely. On the other hand there is no problem with vwrb + ing when "objective" is preceded by a modifier like "primarily/secondary objective". — Man_From_India 13 hours ago

I searched COCA quickly and
Aug 18, 2021 15:26
Or better question, native to AmE or BrE
Aug 18, 2021 15:25
If you don't mind my asking, you are native to US or UK
Aug 18, 2021 15:24
Well in that case what about "my objective is developing a framework"?
Aug 18, 2021 15:22
How does these sound? Are they really incorrect?
1. The objective of the project is developing a framework.
2. Our objective of the project is developing a framework.
3. Our main objective of the project is developing a framework.
