@ibid let’s not equate George Lucas’s after-the-fact-meddling with Tolkien’s ongoing production

@Eagle we don’t always think philosophically, and sometimes, in the course of things, we develop misconceptions in our use of language. I didn’t say that balance is the natural state of being, only that we generally think of it in that way. (Besides, isn’t not-alive the natural state of being? Most of the stuff we’re surrounded with is in that particular state most of the time).

We don’t actually tend to think of balance as ‘opposing forces annihilating one another’, we tend to think of it as the natural state of being.

@forest since when has anyone trusted what the UN says about the status of groups or countries?

‘Did you kill the king?’ is a sentence with only one possible meaning, and can’t be partitioned like the red and blue one — reframing it to ‘did you kill, and if so was it the king?’ is a misunderstanding of how our brains interpret meaning.

This is a great answer. It may answer more than it should, so to speak :D — but it’s full of great historical research.

Goodness, have you got an axe to grind. I think you’re right, by and large, but the spit coming out of your mouth isn’t necessary to make your point.

Shouldn’t it be preemptively, or a ‘preemptive pardon’?

‘Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.‘

@NelsonAlexander denouncing someone else isn’t really the same as cutting their head off. Just a thought.

If only the title was ‘why didn’t Roosevelt and Churchill text each other?’

@AncientSwordRage I see. What happens in a chat event? Do we just talk about things to do with RPG.SE’s upcoming birthday then? Like, ‘oh what did you get the site’ ‘well I got this really nice watch and I think (etc. etc.)’?

Why does the ‘upcoming events’ thing link to here?

I wonder if it’s ironic or not.

@CowperKettle I can’t speak for Americans (I’m Australian) but it depends. My family does sometimes, and we definitely wouldn’t insist that people take off their shoes when they come inside. Normally we take them off (more comfortable), but if we’re just passing through or popping in (so to speak) we don’t. On the other hand, I have never seen anyone change from shoes to slippers, or anything. Sometimes people keep their socks on, but few take shoes off and put something else on.

Not really considering running, but just out of curiosity, but what is it like? What are the problems you mainly have to deal with/hard decisions to be made?
