The Nineteenth Byte

The Nineteenth Byte: General discussion for codegolf.stackexc...
Nov 9, 2018 13:48
Guys are answers in this format allowed, usually they need to be a full function, no?
Dec 28, 2017 15:20
If I do nothing it goes to the most upvoted right?
Dec 28, 2017 15:18
https://codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/150113/ascii-hexagon-chain

What do I do if there is no hexagony answer?
Dec 11, 2017 14:22
`Isn't choosing the right language for the job a thing though too
Dec 11, 2017 14:18
codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/150262/… Is that winning condition allowed?
Aug 22, 2017 14:17
@ASCII-only I don't quite understand what you mean
Aug 22, 2017 14:13
With regards to this, if his winning criterion would be the "the program with the smallest space complexity wins", would that be fine?
Aug 22, 2017 13:26
If he has these many test cases ready I don't think so
Aug 22, 2017 13:25
I saw, lets hope OP stays around
Aug 22, 2017 13:23
Then we are gonna be left to decide what OP wanted, and then when we argue, who resolves it?
Aug 22, 2017 13:19
If it's on-site like in this case?
Aug 22, 2017 13:00
What is the policy on stealing a challenge? Like for example, this OP doesn't seem to fully grasp the aim of this site and in the case he never returns I would like to see it become a properly structured challenge. What do?
Aug 17, 2017 11:28
not even the beginning, but like in 2013/4
Aug 17, 2017 11:27
now their content pipeline tool can compile the .fx files for you
Aug 17, 2017 11:27
in the beginning they had this crappy tool to compile .fx files, which XNA's content pipeline just did automatically
Aug 17, 2017 11:20
they do now though
Aug 17, 2017 11:19
MonoGame is decent but when I used it they didn't have the level of shader support that XNA used to have and it put me off
Aug 17, 2017 11:17
Technically I started with C and did the shitty text games in that for about 2 weeks and then I moved to C# and once I kinda understood it I did XNA
Aug 17, 2017 11:12
@Mayube It was the first one I learned armed with no internet, a C# book and VS 2008, so it will always be my fave
Aug 17, 2017 11:09
Maybe
Aug 17, 2017 11:07
not for codegolfing
Aug 17, 2017 11:06
I feel that C# gets so little love that spreading it among a few answers isn't right.
Aug 17, 2017 11:04
@TheLethalCoder Like I said, when I saw your comment I just gave up
Aug 17, 2017 11:01
@Mayube If I had VS opened already I could've won maybe
Aug 17, 2017 10:35
@TheLethalCoder I was opening VS to answer this, then I saw you commented, then I closed VS cause I know you would beat me to it :)
Aug 16, 2017 11:15
xor is ^
Aug 16, 2017 11:14
no its bitwise or
Aug 16, 2017 11:14
@Mayube Save one byte by || to |
Aug 16, 2017 09:30
I dont actually think people were mean to the OP of that question but if they succeeded in closing his question he would be very demoralized. There are things we can do to stop that.
Aug 16, 2017 09:28
Yeah I think we should start a meta-post of steps to follow before adding a close vote on low rep users
Aug 16, 2017 09:27
@ASCII-only Yeah after posting the challenge I asked on here and people said linking here might help
Aug 16, 2017 09:26
@Fatalize thanks for helping
Aug 16, 2017 09:26
Yeah maybe someone should write one
Aug 16, 2017 09:25
I am guilty of not liking the sandbox either, posted once, received 0 comments and 0 upvotes and an okay reception when I posted it on the main site.
Aug 16, 2017 09:23
I think pushing a formal process like the sandbox will also scare away a good part of new users.
Aug 16, 2017 09:23
I feel that creating this barrier of entry to question asking on this SE doesn't help anyone. And answering questions gets you a much better response.
Aug 16, 2017 09:21
Cause we have a much more standardized question format than other SE's maybe if they don't give input formats we ask them if standard IO is fine with a link to its meta post and if they don't have edge cases then some more regular community users add them like totalhuman did on that question
Aug 16, 2017 09:17
Okay, do we have a meta post on PPCG about it ?( I have experienced this on other SE sites)
Aug 16, 2017 09:16
Isn't it a bit harsh to get that close to closing a newcomers question, who's question, after a few edits became a good question?
Aug 16, 2017 09:10
Why did this almost get closed?
Aug 3, 2017 15:29
@DJMcMayhem Thank you :)
Aug 3, 2017 15:26
If I have written a language and I have the code in a public repo and an online interpreter can I start answering challenges in it?
Aug 2, 2017 13:52
Leaky nun I don't know Jelly at all, could you maybe give a rough explanation of your answer here
Aug 2, 2017 12:48
@StepHen Okay will go think about it, thanks
Aug 2, 2017 12:46
hmm, so the better approach would be to write 20 languages?

Jan 30, 2018 02:29
your guess is case sensitive right?

Dec 15, 2017 13:09
High rep person answered mine and I accepted his answer before the first close vote came in
Dec 15, 2017 13:03
asking because if I can understand where the line is drawn maybe I can post another puzzle with less risk of it getting closed
Dec 15, 2017 13:02
https://puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/58003/simple-math-problem-4
https://puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/53328/gambling-problem

My question (2nd one) was closed because it is essentially a math problem), but the other one is almost the exact same principal to solve. why does one get closed and one not?

Whats the formula to calculate the gap between the boxes?
