General Arqade Chat. We tried to leave once, but the door lock...

I got to it last night, and I've only attempted it once so far
00:50
No, I got through that one. You can miss a couple of parries here and there and still be OK. I'm talking about the final battle in the Flying Manor
00:48
I've played a bunch of Dark Souls and Elden Ring, but I'm always dodge rolling in those games, and that usually has more forgiving timing
00:46
I got to a fight where you effectively need to parry every attack, and it's hard
00:43
So, ~9 frames. The timing does feel pretty tight, but I also thought it seemed fair most of the time once I learned the timings.
yst 04:02
I guess there's basic stats: after X time we have completed Y checks out of Z total. A, B, and C games have finished.
yst 03:24
@RavenDreamer I don't think Archipelago has much of anything in terms of stats. It's mainly just tracking which checks have been completed. If you look at the tracker page for our event, it mainly just shows checks completed, and details about hinted checks.
Mon 20:24
@HunterofWisdom I think it's going to be pretty rare that an early game required item in one game will be behind a late game check in another game. Other than that, waiting for checks is just part of the experience.
Mon 20:12
@Bridget Making it async is supposed to help with that, by giving some leeway in how fast you make progress, but I understand that that doesn't change how it feels.
Mon 19:40
@Bridget Double sleeved cards can be pretty bulky at first, but if you compress the deck a bit to squeeze out the air it will generally be easier to handle.
Mon 18:09
The second Archipelago event has finished. If you played it, did you enjoy it? Do you have any thoughts or feedback about the event?
Sun 18:53
The other Cloudflare R2 questions I see have code in them. I think they're mostly asking about interacting with the R2 API, which definitely would be on topic.
Sun 18:51
@xtropicalsoothing My immediate reaction on reading the question is that it looks like it's more about system administration than software development, so I'd identify it as a Server Fault question.
Sun 18:39
This is why these complaints always bother me. There's often a simple solution that would take a little effort, but people would rather say "I tried once and failed, so I give up and its SO's fault"
Sun 18:37
Why not just ask the question on the proper site? I'm pretty sure that would be Server Fault
Sun 18:22
@xtropicalsoothing It's an off topic question closed as off topic. Do you expect them to just discard the rules to keep people here?
Jul 24 17:12
I don't think anyone but you can answer that question, in regards to your own life
Jul 24 17:08
@xtropicalsoothing Living with your parents doesn't solve the problem of having the resources to sustain yourself, it just pushes the problem onto someone else
Jul 24 16:55
@SPArcheon-onstrike More than one
Jul 22 20:25
And Noita
Jul 22 01:59
Yeah, and Hollow Knight has a couple of bosses that are just there to stop you from getting past, and they aren't actually guarding a specific item
Jul 22 01:57
And not all bosses have a drop like that
Jul 22 01:56
Defeating a boss is not itself normally a check
Jul 22 01:56
For any boss that drops a large amount of geo when they die, that's a check
Jul 22 01:54
@RavenDreamer I turned on extra checks: grubs, boss geo, geo chests, and boss dream essence.
Jul 22 00:06
I have now done every useful check in Hollow Knight. I just need one hinted item and then I can finish the game.
Jul 21 21:29
@Ronan That's good. There's one behind my Colosseum 2 check, and I was hoping to avoid that one.
Jul 21 21:21
@Ronan How important are Gold Skulltula Tokens for you?
Jul 21 21:17
For example, SGDQ this year had a two player Sonic Adventure 2 Archipelago run: youtube.com/watch?v=z-FP8_T5pg4
Jul 21 21:13
There's no difference between randomizing multiple instances of the same game, and multiple different games
Jul 21 21:12
You can have two slots for the same game, if that's what you mean
Jul 21 21:00
At least, if everything is configured properly
Jul 21 17:47
Progression items are purple, useful upgrades are dark blue, and other things are light blue
Jul 21 17:46
If you're using the Archipelago text client, it shows the items names in different colors roughly depending on their importance
Jul 21 17:42
You're thinking of "king fragment", "queen fragment", and "void heart". I already have two of those, but I don't remember which ones
Jul 21 17:41
@RavenDreamer Actually, no, that's just money
Jul 21 09:26
But you can also generalize the concept of "items" and "locations" a lot. For example, Archipelago has a Yacht Dice game (legally distinct Yahtzee), where the "items" are dice, rerolls, categories, and point multipliers, and the "locations" are score milestones.
Jul 21 09:21
@SPArcheon-onstrike It definitely works better for some games than others. It works well with Metroidvanias, for example, because the concept of progression being limited by what items you have is already part of the premise of the game
Jul 21 08:06
Then you just have to make sure that each sphere contains at least one item that gives you access to something you don't already have access to, and that guarantees that you can always make progress towards the goal.
Jul 21 08:05
Then sphere 1 is all of the locations reachable with the items in sphere 0, and so on
Jul 21 08:05
The "spheres" Tobias mentioned is a strategy for doing that. You start by looking at sphere 0, which is all of the locations reachable from the beginning of the game with no items, and you put some items there.
Jul 21 08:03
Then when doing the actual generation for one run, the randomizer arranges things so that you can always obtain what you need to be able to keep making progress
Jul 21 08:02
@SPArcheon-onstrike Essentially, as part of programming the randomizer, for every location you can check in the game, they track which items you need to get it.
Jul 21 01:15
@Ronan yes
Jul 19 16:47
The Archipelago event has started. This is the room link: archipelago.gg/room/SHrUeGilRGmdmj432JKweg
Jul 17 18:37
@RavenDreamer Nice, happy to have more people in the event
Jul 17 18:10
@SPArcheon-onstrike I mean that there's nothing misleading in the sense that the claim in the listing is "the ESRB rated this game E"

@User1865345 These responses don't make sense. The post specifically says that he threatened to kill everyone on "what he believed was the Jeffrey Epstein client list". If he had a list of people and he threatened to kill them, that certainly is an actionable threat even if he is mistaken in his belief that it is the real Epstein client list.
