@cairdcoinheringaahing cool - thanks!
Feb 24, 2021 01:07
@cairdcoinheringaahing Is my answer valid? Did I understand the question right?
Feb 11, 2021 01:38
@cairdcoinheringaahing Why is this question not acceptable on meta?
Feb 11, 2021 01:23
or some rendering to any acceptable image format?
Feb 11, 2021 01:23
presumably 3d-output could be a .stl file or equivalent
Feb 11, 2021 01:22
@importhuh I think this is a good idea. We already have text-output and graphical-output tags. I think 3d-output would be a reasonable addition

@Mr.Xcoder yep. Such was my excitement at google's embrace of codegolf that I didn't even look at the starred comments!!!

@Mr.Xcoder oh, I see. I guess I didn't search back enough pages in the chat transcript

It is (theoretically) possible to implement a Turing machine in Conway's Game of Life. Therefore I think this problem degenerates to solving the halting problem. In other words, there will be classes of input arrays for which you'll have to check an unbounded number of iterations to determine stabilization. That's before you even try to determine time complexity of a given solution.

@ASCII-only Duh - definitely a brainfart on my part then :) Sorry for the noise

@Dennis I was hoping to be able to use the command-line options to pass to the script - is this not what they are for? What is the file for that would have name filename?
Jun 2, 2018 00:08
Hi @Dennis, either I have a brainfart or something went wrong with the bash TIO: tio.run/##S0oszvj/PzU5I19BxfD//3/5BSWZ@XnF/zNSc3LyAQ
Apr 5, 2018 16:07
@Dennis Thanks!
Apr 5, 2018 15:34
Is it just a matter of adding a wrapper script to github.com/TryItOnline/tryitonline/tree/master/wrappers, or is there more to it?
Apr 5, 2018 15:33
Hi @Dennis. I just wrote an answer in m4 which is pretty much new to me. Not sure if it even meets our standard of programming language, though it does fit this task fairly well. Can this be added it TIO?

Apr 12, 2018 22:40
@StewieGriffin This one opens up for a lot more answers, including answers from newer users - Why? There is nothing preventing new and old site members alike from adding answers to the original question. If I read this meta consensus correctly, even newer languages may be used. That being said, there is value in this challenge - as a dup - to bump the original challenge, which is of course a landmark programming exercise
Apr 12, 2018 22:40
@MuhammadSalman By the standards of this site, I think the stronger argument is that this is a duplicate. Specifically most, if not all answers to the original challenge can probably be trivially modified to answer your challenge. (Side note: IIRC, one of the first challenges I posed on this site was to implement Conway's GoL. Peter Taylor summarily duped that one as well. I went ahead and added an answer to the original chalenge and then I moved on...)
