2:00 PM
touché

@KitFox But it is inside the container during the normal baking process in the bread-maker...

@Cerberus But that's not how you bake bread in an oven.

user19161
Do you guys really pronounce flour as flower?

2:00 PM
Yeah. How do you say it?

@RegDwighт What? Surely this won't damage the tray/container? It normally gets heated in a similar way, from the outside.

user19161
The people around me pronounce flour as flah.

I only pronounce beer as flour. Easier to shop that way.

same difference as aloud and allowed

@Cerberus It might warp the container.

2:01 PM
@KitFox Yeah...but the alternative is throwing it away, because I won't be able to get it out of the container in reasonable shape.

@Cerberus since when is shape of any concern?

@Cerberus You can reshape it after you get it out.

user19161
The people around me pronounce tomato as toe-mat-toe.

Bread dough can take being worked hard.

"OMG my bread is not perfectly round!" whine whine whine

2:02 PM
it's what's on the inside that counts. didn't children's TV teach you anything?

@KitFox You think so? It is thick metal. There is an ehh metal right around the container that is the heating element, that is, the ring is inside the bread-maker, and you put the container inside the ring.

@MattЭллен Winke-winke lala!

@RegDwighт Well, a flat, airless clump is inedible...

Why are you asking if you have already made up your mind?

@KitFox After rising?

user19161
2:03 PM
@matt I think the OED guys might reply next year...

@Cerberus You could let it rise again before you bake it, if need be.

@JasonBourne possibly. I've not heard anything yet!

user19161
@MattЭллен Perhaps they are not sure what they mean. They then do a google search and see my answer!

@KitFox No, this is useful. I may take it out next time and bake it on a tray, according y'all's advice.

2:04 PM
dipsy and po on the mound

user19161
@RegDwighт The purple one has been associated with gayness.

or is that tinky wink?

@KitFox You think that will work? Then I would have to add extra sugar? The problem is also that I have until 3:45.

You do know the original bread was a lump of waste thrown into the fire? And our ancestors ate it and lived on to become our ancestors. So

I may try that next time.

2:05 PM
oh, it is tinky winky

@RegDwighт Buttt I have more delicate tastes than any random dog.

Right. Your ancestors only ate raw flesh. And no amount of metal containers will turn your sorry bread into raw flesh.

@RegDwighт what if they became our ancestors before they ate the bread-dirt

I don't smell burning plastic yet, so all is well.
@RegDwighт What if I close my eyes?

@MattЭллен we will never know. Imagine that.

2:06 PM
that's very easy to imagine

@Cerberus then you'd miss me babe, and you don't wanna miss a thing.

Uhh... averts eyes

A natural reaction to Steven Tyler.

I write the best exception messages
> Doesn't make sense to load data into a PassThrough processor.
thanks me
actually you're wrong, though
or did I write that
oh, no it was my boss

Haha.
Now I want flesh. Slightly cooked though. I'm not a barbarian.

2:18 PM
@RegDwighт I don't know if I would characterize the last 4 years as "dark ages". Not like the years 1992-2002 where I didn't buy a single set.

I can go with Sepia Ages if you insist.

That would be better. More stylish. Also more accurate.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 you've spent the last for year as if you're a photo on instagram

So I noticed a glaring flaw in rebrickable: they totally ignore the old grey/new grey problem.

@MattЭллен Haha.

2:21 PM
truns out it probably doesn't make sense to do that

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 No!!

@Cerberus I know, eh? amateurs.

It's funny how men are allowed to be infinitely more girly about tiny speckles and shades of colour as long as it is perceived to be about tools...

Don't worry, I'm on it already. I emailed the guy and explained it to him.

Like cars.

2:22 PM
@Cerberus "girly"?

Well...

or paint colours for gaming minatures

You know how stereotypical girls can talk about clothes and make-up?
@MattЭллен Haha yes!
Or chefs...

Or colors for manly sex toys.

Uhh yes.
Exactly.

2:24 PM
Or how men are allowed to have dolls, as long as they are inflatable.

this has been posted before, but I'm not searching for it in the chat search

Heh.

Right!

user19161
For me, only the shades of blue matter.

user19161
2:25 PM
For example, I like steelblue and dodgerblue.

Jasper Loy's 50 shades of blue

I don't know if the old/new grey problem can be dismissed as "tiny speckles". As for nerds of any kind being nerdy about their hobby: car nerds being nerdy about car colours, lego nerds being nerdy about lego colours, makeup nerds being nerdy about makeup colours, I don't find it surprising.

@MattЭллен That's a variation on the more stereotypically-exaggerated scheme, right?

@Cerberus yeah

@KitFox Men are also allowed to have dolls, if those dolls are GI Joes or lego minifigs or playmobil or tabletop gaming miniatures.

2:26 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Indeed not. And car nerds are possibly the worst, like my father. A scratch that you'd need a magnifying glass to discern? He'd faint.
@MattЭллен Ah yes. Your is definitely more realistic.

A: What is the bley (blay) color?

starblueAround 2004 (if I remember correctly) LEGO changed the grey and dark grey colors. The colors before the change were the original grey colors which were in use from their introduction. They were somewhat warmer than the colors today, which was perceived as looking faded, though it had nothing to d...

Bread seems to be coming along fairly well. I'm giving it another 10 minutes, to a total of 60.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 OMG!!!

Supposedly those two dark grey colours are the "same", if you ask rebrickable.com

I see at least three different colours!

Gotta love the irony in
> The newer colors have a colder, blueish tone, and were widely disliked in the AFOL community, because most of the time they look awful if used together with the existing old grey pieces. Depending on the lighting it can also be quite hard to tell old and new greys apart.
The colors are too different! I can barely tell them apart!

2:28 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 The bluish grey and the brownish grey?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 That is spelled wrong.

> blae: Of a dark color between black and blue; blackish blue; of the color of the blae-berry; livid; also, of a lighter shade, bluish grey, lead-colored.

@RegDwighт Hahaha perfect!!
@tchrist Yea.

@tchrist That's how it's spelled in lego circles. You are free to arrogantly dismiss the actual use of the language as uneducated or merely jargon restricted to a small subset of users.
@Cerberus Yes, those two are supposed to be equivalent.

2:30 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 And you are free to keep your abusive arrogance out of chat comments. Thank you very much.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Right..

@RegDwighт Actually, I find the old brown and new brown too hard to tell apart. The old light grey and new light grey are hard to distinguish if you're working in a dark room. Which isn't uncommon: if you're staying up late working on a model, you can tell that a certain piece is light grey or dark grey or brown, or whatever, but the next day when the sun is up, it's annoying to discover that you didn't notice that two pieces were different shades.

Why do they even change the colours?

@Cerberus marketing

2:33 PM
I only have a couple pieces in old brown, and none in old greys.

How does a new colour help?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 nah.
It's actually cheaper to produce, too.

@RegDwighт No, really, that was their explanation. They thought the new colours looked better and kids liked them more.

@Cerberus Brownish-grey is taupe, the shrew-color, right?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 ah. Well if you call that marketing.

2:34 PM
> taupe: A brownish shade of grey resembling the color of moleskin.
Ok, mole not shrew.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 As if kids cared at all!

But I know the new brown is in fact cheaper.

@tchrist Tsk.

@Cerberus Hey, it’s all schistaceous to me.
Which sounds worse than it is.
> schistaceous: Having the color of schist or slate, blue-grey.

If you say so.

2:35 PM
Then there’s feldgrau.
And venet.

@Cerberus Lego claims that they play-tested and parent-tested the colours and determined that the new colour tested better. Actually the new light grey makes the old light grey look like it was sitting in the sun too long.

And perse.
English has no end of blue-grey words.
And slate.

England has no end of blue-grey sky

That must be it.
glaucous
bice
pewter
Silurian

Okay, it's official. I must now eat a cake.
Problem is, no cake in sight.

2:38 PM
@Cerberus Was that a shrewish comment? :)

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Maybe I should color test my avatar.

commutes

@RegDwighт woohoo!

2:47 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 sceptical expression Who knows...
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yikes.
Odd.

@Cerberus You don't think companies do user research? Or that product colour choices affect sales? Or that greedy capitalist pigs wouldn't try to optimize their product?
@Cerberus yeah. Train time is any time, I guess.

Hey @Mr.Shiny, are you coming to chat today?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 As always, I am very sceptical. I have seen some horrible user research. And look at the basic mistakes many products seem to have made...

A: What's the adjectival form of 'deficit'?

taylorscullyfuck this website it is terrible you people suck.TBH

wow..

2:54 PM
thanks for being honest, taylor. that's really helpful

Hmm.
Hi Arch!

Hi :D

Oh, I have to run, class starts in 5 minutes...
Later all!

bye~

2:56 PM
@KitFox Possibly
@Cerberus Just because they sometimes get it wrong doesn't mean they got it wrong this time. And just because they sometimes make mistakes doesn't mean this was a mistake. Anyway even if you think it WAS a mistake, they have kept it that way and left us with the grey/bley problem.
