12:01 AM
@emanresuA where crossword

Nowhere yet, would you like it

Here is good

@DLosc I had a book of cross-numbers once. It would have clues like "1a square root of 1d" "1d half of 2d"

12:24 AM
first timer here, is there a specific meta related to a single user posting an answer in more than one language?

Nope

@south Go ahead and post multiple answers in different languages if you'd like

alright thank ya

The general consensus however is that if there's no "significant" difference between an answer in language X and language Y, then there's no real point in posting both. But, it's up to you as to whether that applies or not

@emanresuA Why not post it on Puzzling so one of us can get some free rep for solving it ?

12:33 AM
@south if there was, I wouldn't have over 10 answers to FizzBuzz :p

@cairdcoinheringaahing sounds good
was just making sure, ive got a simple octave solution to this which is in fact fairly different from my J post :s

@emanresuA what dlosc said but also so we can continue our eventual infestation of every SE site

12:49 AM
@south hey, ure the Fig guy!
feel free to join us me in the Fig room

CMC: Given a triple [a, b, c], output [1, a, b]

@cairdcoinheringaahing vyxal, 4 bytes: Try it Online!

I'm surprised Jelly beats it at 3 bytes tbh

Well the 4 bytes is the obvious approach

@lyxal Ṫ1p

12:58 AM
There we go

To me the 3-byter is much more obvious lol

The 4 bytes is input[-1] = 1 and then rotate right

It would take me a while to even think of that

Jelly's 3 byter is pop-append 1

Ṫ1p is the same
curtail, prepend one

1:00 AM
Sandbox posts last active a week ago: Enumerate the rationals

I'm just built differently :p

I've probably mentioned this before, but I've just (re-)realised there was a 4 year gap between me getting Inquisitive on meta and literally anyone else getting it

Shit, how did they know I'm built???

Holy crud, moderator election's a real hard choice.

1:06 AM
I mean, normal human things, hello fellow people, how goes sports?

@Seggan haha nice, didn't know there was one. i should start coming around to these rooms more often

Sports goes badly, for I m overweight!

@cairdcoinheringaahing you left your gradle files in the open :p
2

@Tuxysta I'm entirely unbiased, but that caird person looks super cool. After all, they have a dog profile picture with a Santa hat :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing Greetings, fellow humans typing with normal human hands

1:08 AM
@emanresuA Hel7lo

@Tuxysta I made a little program to help you decide who to vote for: Try it Online! :p

@cairdcoinheringaahing what about a dog with a witch hat to honor this wonderful month

@lyxal Seems a tiny bit biased, dunnit?

If anyone wants to add a witch hat to Patch, I'll use that as my profile pic :P

@Tuxysta must be a problem with python's random choice then. "℅ puts the two names into a list and chooses a random item
That last line totally does exactly what it says
There's absolutely no way it's doing something else like pushing a dictionary string

1:13 AM
Does it now? Who's the owner of the server? Also, I don't know vyxal, so I can't verify that. :P

Ah, makes sense. Good wishes to y'alls campaigns! I think I'll keep my vote a secret.
@cairdcoinheringaahing cute cute cuteness overflow.

@lyxal Lol

@Tuxysta (the joke is that ₴ṁ is a compressed string for lyxal - the "℅ really does choose at random)

Actually hang on, Pepper is the more halloween-y (almost all black), she's better suited to a witch hat :P

1:14 AM
vyxal can't even access /dev/null without eval as python.

Ah, makes sense.

damn, that is a such a cute dog

I have another one :P

@Steffan I know :p that was the best explanation I could come up with for having ṁ :p

@cairdcoinheringaahing Fig, 2.469 bytes: J1q Try it online
beats 3 byters mwahahaha

1:16 AM
why would we have a builtin to move to /dev/null lmao

vyxal be damned

@Steffan We have a built in for amogus, why the hell not?

@Steffan Given the shit lyxal puts in, I wouldn't be surprised

@cairdcoinheringaahing hey it's not just me anymore - it's a community effort :p

CMC: Put a spooky witch hat on my puppy Pepper. Best edit will get an upvote on any post you choose, plus I'll use it as my profile picture until Christmas

1:29 AM

Adorable :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing when's the submission deadline?

I'll be going to bed shortly, and I'm busy tomorrow, so let's say 24hrs from when first posted

argh image not uploading

gimp is taking too much memory its pissing me off

1:38 AM
lol another gimp user

image manip is not my forte lol
i think this would go well with the doggy if anyone wants to steal it :s

@cairdcoinheringaahing note that this is some random hat from google, may or may not have copyright :P
@south you can see the inside, not good

Just use the mirror tool and pick the z-axis

how does that work

1:47 AM
@Seggan It doesn't, I'm joking

Can't believe y'all are manually editing it

I remember reading a thing from a graphic designer who had to keep constantly explaining that he couldn't rotate the angle of people in pictures

@lyxal how are you determining the top of the puppy's head
eh, mine is obv best
too bad upload wont work....

@Seggan erase a triangle above the dog and get ai to fill in hat + erased floor
DALLE-2 ftw

1:49 AM
wtf is that hat

@emanresuA I did this entirely with clone stamp lol

@lyxal is that... motor oil?

Tf you mean motor oil

1:53 AM
I made another one

ahh there ya go

2:12 AM
@Seggan lmao

It looks like an upside down frosting piping bag lined with newspaper and filled with squid ink

2:35 AM

Q: Zottffssentettffssen

SisyphusPrint or return the following string: zottffssentettffssenttttttttttttttttttttffffffffffffffffffffsssssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnno This is the first letter of each of the numbers zero, one, two, all the way up to one hundred. Standard I/O rules apply, but the output must be exactly as s...

@Seggan i was thinking of erasing that part, it looked sorta fine if you do that

1 hour later…
4:10 AM
Is it lyal today?
@PyGamer0 BTW that's not mine lol

@NumberBasher no
it's LDW today

OOOOHHHHhHHHHH

LYAL was last week - we had a whole meta post on it remember? :p

Hmmmmmmmmm, I wonder who posted it
Guess I'll develop my golflang
if i have time
anyways
yesterday i was trying to do graphics
but i just can't get it to work
so i stamped a few million turtles...
my golflang is called FENstack, but bye for about 7 hours

2 hours later…
6:11 AM
@Neil Would add 16^x instead of 10
@NumberBasher Are you pedanticHacker?

6:57 AM
@mousetail the more fundamental problem would be that e is a valid hex digit, so the e notation is ambiguous

True
I guess use G instead then, but it's not really necessary in the first place. I mainly want hex floats so I can do math without loss of precision

Q: Make each languages official tops page look more like the LYAL and LOTM templates?

mousetailThe LYAL posts have a lot of good resources about most languages posted, this provides a very solid starting point for those wanting to learn to golf in some language. However, not every language can be nominated and I think it would be useful to have this information available for more languages...

@Neil Done

7:39 AM
@NumberBasher i know :P

@DLosc we old

7:57 AM
1.5 days to slack day!

@DialFrost If you are anything like me you'll be very passionate about golfing while you don't have time but lose interest immediately when you actually have time to do it

@mousetail Hehe lmaooo
Techncially my exams ends in 7 days including today, but after my paper on friday the rest you hardly need to study

8:15 AM
"you hardly need to study" famous last words

9:00 AM
@pxeger thanks

9:43 AM
@Fatalize well i got 100% last time in computer exam when i didn't study at all :p
this time i will get 97% without studying :}

10:18 AM
@PyGamer0 CS is way too easy
unfortunately I didn't take it and took triple science instead :(((((((((
@Fatalize hehe

11:17 AM
For a second I thought somebody said "CSS is way too easy"

hello!

CSS is easy fight me

no errors at all

There are syntax errors

for j in 1...n-3 for k in j+2...n-1.. Sorry to be stupid but how many steps in this double loop as a function of n?

11:21 AM
exact or asymptotic?

@mousetail 4 I just have a hard time getting along with css

exact
It is just confusing me

Is .. inclusive or exclusive in whatever language that is?

inclusive, sorry I should have said
as it does look a little like python

in rust .. is exclusive too
what language is this?

11:24 AM
it's me trying to write math to make the question clearer
and not succeeding well

So the first step runs from 3 to n-1, then 4 to n-1 etc. Lowest value of n is 4. So F(4)=1, then it's just triangle numbers.

I propose (n-3)*(n-4)/2 maybe

that looks right!
thank so you much
still the best chat room in the world

11:43 AM
Is there a compact way to turn a list into a dict in python, like ['bob'] to {0:'bob'}

@graffe and the most fun! :3

Idk if thtis works but {key: value for key,value in enumerate(lst)}

That would work but it's very long
just using dict(enumerate(lst)) is shorter but still long

{enumerate(list)}?

Nope
That's a set

11:47 AM
Oh

@mousetail I don't think it can get shorter than that

@cairdcoinheringaahing I know you asked for spooky witch hats, but I can do one better
thanks imgur and dalle for cropping the picture so well
not.
There we go
Welcome to the Ninth Language Design Workshop! The general premise is that you can post work you've done or are doing on esolangs and people will give feedback. In short, you'll get to show off our languages and their features, chat about them, get feedback, try out WIP languages, and, hopefully get ideas over the next 24 hours.
6

12:02 PM
NLDW? Is that new?
and what's WIP languages? :3

@mousetail no; why?

@DialFrost it's LDW, and the 9th time we've had one
@DialFrost any languages people are working on (work in progress)

ah, never heard of it before :(
im out of date

WIP language, my sort-of-done SunSip https://github.com/TvoozMagnificent/SunSip and my sort of never begun FENstack https://github.com/TvoozMagnificent/FENstack

@NumberBasher A guy in some other chat who was asking about a lot of functions with FEN in the name

12:11 PM
@mousetail no... where?

Discord

whatever

hi

@NumberBasher Missed oppertunity for rick roll

FEN-stack is based on the FEN based encoding as in chess AND STACKS DUH

12:17 PM
Oh the other guy was also a fan of chess, makes sense then you named your thing the same

12:43 PM
@lyxal what prompts do you use for ur aicmcs?
just signed up for openai myself

one second
I'll make a gist for you

me too

i just stuck "Write a short coding challenge" and it gave me
Given an array of integers, return the sum of the integers.

Example:

Input: [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Output: 15

ah, python 3: sum

lambda n:sum(n)

12:44 PM
I mean, at least it did the math correctly

or if you just need a name, i=sum

:P
@NumberBasher sum is already a name

you should c because if you dc then you violate rules which we c

12:45 PM
Write a program that outputs the first 100 prime numbers.

make sure you use the codex models
(code-davinci is what I have mine preset as)

@Seggan well...

@lyxal do you need credits to use codex?

no
Codex is free

does it have an API

12:47 PM
I think so
I mean, of course it would

spicy

is codex this thing

no
that's normal GPT-3
that costs credits

uh oh

oof

12:48 PM
you want code-davinci, not text-davinci
not only does the code version not use credits, it's better suited for code

mhm so for codex i need to join the waitlist apparently

ah yeah, that's right
forgot about that

oh nO

I would say hopefully it shouldn't take too long, but it did for me

how long did it take
@lyxal so which bits are the prompts?

12:50 PM
like, a mere decade?

@Seggan let me check chat transcript
@Seggan no no you don't understand
that is the prompt
the entire thing

aaaaah
so based off of that it generates more

@Seggan actually wait it didn't take long
I got mixed up with how long it took to get copilot
codex was pretty instant, copilot was the thing that took months

yeah copilot took me 7 months

Oct 27, 2021 at 2:18, by lyxal
Heh, looks like I just got access to github copilot. Like nevermind the fact I've had access to codex for a few months now and that I applied for the preview before I applied for codex

12:53 PM
ooof
oh wow those prompts work well enough in gpt3

@Seggan looks like it took a month
I applied for it basically after it was announced in August last year and got access in September
@Seggan you can now get it to extend TNB conversations too :p
because that's basically the only use for it :p

AICMC: Given a list of numbers, return all the even numbers in the list.

oh, and don't go changing the Best Of slider
leave it at 1
otherwise you burn through your credits quicker

k

Aaron made the mistake of setting it to 20 once

12:57 PM
what happened

it just means it chooses the best competition from multiple parallel runs of GPT-3 on the same prompt

oh

Hmmmmmmmm
hhh

**Seggan - ooof
Seggan - oh wow those prompts work well enough in gpt3

lyxal - @Seggan looks like it took a month
lyxal - I applied for it basically after it was announced in August last year and got access in September**
lyxal - and I think it's been in beta since then

Seggan - @lyxal wow that's a long time!
lyxal - @Seggan yeah, I think they wanted to make sure it was good and stable before letting more people in
Seggan - @lyxal that makes sense. I'm just glad I was able to get in and try it out!

12:58 PM
huh

> I'm just glad I was able to get in and try it out!
hmmm

2 mins ago, by lyxal
@Seggan you can now get it to extend TNB conversations too :p

Q: It's Just Rocket Science, Part 2 - Centrifuge

pigrammerYou've gotten out of Earth's gravity well - good for you! However, you're feeling a bit uncomfortable in zero-gravity, and you want to replicate 1 \$g\$ of force in a centrifuge. Use the equation for force in a centrifuge: $$\text{RCF} = \frac{r_\text{m} \, \left(\frac{2 \pi N_\text{RPM}}{60}\rig...

Q: Which weekday was it?

py3programmerThis challenge, I hope, is simple to understand. Given a date-string (given in any format you prefer, so long as it has 4 digits of year and 2 digits of day and month), calculate the weekday for the particular date-string. You must output 7 different values, corresponding to the weekday you have ...
