@RyanM While that's also an issue, and one which SD would have complained about had -force not been used, I really considered it secondary to using -force right off the bat. -force really should be done only when you know why that particular entry needs to use -force and you have made the choice that you, as a human, know better than the machine that the entry really should be added. There are, rare, times when that's the case, but knowing that's the case before even trying without -force is even rarer. Although, the unescaped . one is something that's relatively easy to know in advance.
However, even when you do know in advance that you'll need a -force, it's still a good idea to try it without -force to see if there's some other issue about which you are unaware.

@Makyen I did actually try it without -force beforehand...

@Nick Then, I'm sorry about my earlier statement. I looked for you doing so, but either I just didn't see it and the response from SD, or for some reason it wasn't being shown in the chat page.

@Nick In general, we tend to use [\W_]*+ for separation between words (or just word characters, except _). You don't have to use it. There are a substantial variety of ways to write a regular expression to consume those characters.
@Makyen Personally, I'm betting on me being blind, but I've also seen it where chat just doesn't show some messages.

12:06 AM
@Makyen no worries at all. Easy enough for stuff to get lost in here. I'll stick with the [\W_]*+ in future so I don't need to use it. This was the message: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/62011708#62011708

@Makyen What's the reason for watching that? Would it have been better if I'd put a watch for 92lottery(?:\.biz)?

3:52 AM
@Nick No, we actually prefer to keep them separate, because the domain may, eventually, end up in the blacklisted websites lists, while the one covering other uses (i.e. without the .biz) may, eventually, end up in the blacklisted keywords list. It's easier and less confusing to have them separate from the beginning.
In this case, the spammer used both the domain in the URL and the main portion of the domain (i.e. without the TLD, .biz in this case) separately within their spam post. So, we watch both, as it's fairly unique, even without the TLD. But, we don't want the two entries detecting the same thing, so we make sure that they won't (i.e. one is for the keyword and won't match the full domain, while the other is for the domain and won't match the keyword when the keyword is used separately).

@Nick Unfortunately, we can't add an additional comment to a watch PR when proposing one that way. If you want to note the source for the related pattern you're trying to watch, you can do either (or both) of the following: 1. Add a Github comment to the PR using your own Github account. 2. Use the reply hook to reply to the "PR (whatever) Opened by (Nick)" message that SD will send after your watch command to note where you found that expression.

oooh, #2 is clever!

Lots of folks reviewing PRs will locate where the watch proposer proposed that expression in the transcript for context.

Wait, no, maybe don't do that one.

@SmokeDetector Leaving that case-insensitive to ensure we catch all of the usernames listed here: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/domains/64415 - Usernames used appear to be "Photoshop services" and "Photoshop Service".

@cigien I expected this to show up as a comment on the post on MS, but the current comment doesn't have the attribution to this chat message which I would expect. Did you manually adjust the comment(s) on MS?

@Makyen No, I didn't. It's showing up for me though. This is the report I replied to. It's the older of the 2 reports for the same user. Perhaps you were looking at the more recent one?

@cigien No, that's the one I was looking at. I'm just expecting to see " – from a chat message by cigien" at the end of the comment which SD forwarded to MS, similar to the comment on this MS post.

@Makyen Oh, I misunderstood. No, I don't know why the attribution is missing, and I didn't adjust the comment manually.
Ah, the attribution seems to be a relatively new feature. I hadn't noticed when it happened. That's a nice feature :)

@cigien OK. Thanks. My current guess is I missed adding the attribution it when it's split from a command, but I at least thought I'd searched for other spots where a comment is forwarded.

@SmokeDetector Just a test comment to see if there's attribution when there's no associated feedback.
@Makyen Looks like your guess is right metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/388024.
