1:55 AM
@Alex That has a much broader scope, right?

@Adamant Do chatrooms have scope? The site it's associated with has nearly four times as many users as this site has, if that's what you mean.

2:13 AM
@Alex What I mean is that meta covers all the sites, possibly making these discussions higher-profile, so it might be more important to have a room owner in there at all times.
But yes, also the number of users.

2:47 AM
@Adamant The two probably go together. There are likely more users because Meta covers all the sites.

3:21 AM
@NapoleonWilson but how did those others become owners?
Can high rep users see mod flags?

@Stormblessed If they're moderators.

Q: Why din't Shazam lose his powers when he shared it with his friends ? Can he retain full strength even after sharing it with many people?

ThanthuSaw Shazam movie yesterday, in that after sharing powers with his friends Shazam(Billy Batson) still seemed to have all his powers in the movie. Was this the case ? Does this mean he can share his powers and create heroes without losing his own ?

@Stormblessed light up the mod-signal
@DavidW you mistyped "stubborn"

@Jenayah Can I ask for your help for "science"?

Sure

Do you recall any instances where you voted to close a question, then the question got reopened, then it got sent to the close queue, and you wanted to vote to leave open? (I figure you're the most likely to have had such a case.)

Without an edit being done between reviews?

I don't think it matters. Whichever you have, if any, or both.

5:12 AM
Ah, way, I misread. You mean I'd have to have changed my mind

Right.
Or not, if the question was edited.

@Alex well I'm pretty sure you can't re-vote to close if it hasn't been edited since it got closed by you and reopened afterwards. That I know and can find an example.
Or wait, the other way around maybe... Sec

@Jenayah I know. The science is about whether you can vote to leave open even though you can't vote to close.

Ah.
Lemme check, though that doesn't ring a bell right now

@Mazura All images should have descriptions, for accessibility reasons. So... yeah, I'm chipping at it.

5:18 AM
I'm not finding anything right away... Will give it a better look in the tramway. You could probably also ask @TheLethalCarrot

@Stormblessed Room owners become ROs by creating the room, or being added by another RO / mod. They're supposed to help maintain the moderation of the room. As it happens, I think TREU has enough lurking mods to not really need too many owners. (It's not the largest room in any case.)

All the rooms I own are frozen/deleted.

@Alex That's basically an artifact of the fact that Meta.SE didn't have mods until a little while ago, so ROs were the only way to moderate the chat without staff. And that different owners have been added and some have become inactive over the what, decade? that it's existed.

@Mithrandir Indeed:

Ah, yes. I was a bit surprised that I was still an owner of the most popular room on Chat Meta

@Alex yeah, we discussed it in the RO room... :P

5:31 AM
There's a room for Room Owners?

For the Tavern, yeah. It's private, though. For coordinating action, recording stuff, discussing.... basically a mini mod room.

A room for a specific room. Interesting.

5:52 AM
Well, it's a meta room. Fits with the site it's on.

So it's the room about the room about the site about the sites?
Is that a record yet?

Oh, the number of rooms?

Indeed.

Expanding your close vote field? :P

I occasionally vote on other subjects. After all, if I can understand what a question is asking without knowing anything about the content then I can safely vote that it's not unclear.

It's unclear until OP explains how they might be related rather than just the name sounding the same, to me at least.
Just like the HG question some weeks ago about two works St in an arena.
For the record it was originally flagged as POB

Q: Has Section 31 appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation?

snydezCan anyone confirm that Section 31 ever appeared in one of Star Trek: The Next Generation episode

@Mithrandir that doesn’t seem to be the case at all. It is fine for people to disagree on closing although I’d say sending the same question to the RO Q >5 times is a bigger problem than any initial disagreement over initial closure

7:14 AM
@Stormblessed Originally, it was so that there'd be a coverage close to 24 hours, as in, at least one non-mod owner at any given point in time. The owners carried over from the previous chatroom, which had a reputation for needing a bit of supervision from time to time
To put it mildly
Though, if anything, I think the main lesson learned from the last RO elections is that one should not hold RO elections on Meta
Though, I guess, now that I'm also a mod, maybe we should hire another poor soul

7:28 AM
@Alex yeah that

8:02 AM
@TheLethalCarrot To put it a different way the crusade to get something reopened when the community doesn't feel like it should be is a bigger "problem" (for lack of a better word) than close trigger happy. Though I note I don't think SFF is close trigger happy; we just have people who disagree with closures/reopens which is a good thing when not taken too far

Q: Why does this character die?

Zaid Syed M MdIn Shazam! (2019), the oldest wizard apparently has the powers of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury. Despite having these, why does he die? On similar lines, another question is "Can Shazam die?"

@TheLethalCarrot I could similarly argue that continuously voting to leave closed a question that has an answer based entirely on factual information from the books as Primarily Opinion-Based wastes more time.

And I'd agree with you if the majority wanted it open... but they don't

I am not trying to derail the discussion. I actually don't know what you mean.

1:21 PM
Sorry, now I'm more confused. Are you saying that because the majority of voters voted to leave it closed, the answer must not be based on factual information?

Not at all and I in no way even implied that
If you're not going to have a constructive discussion I see no point in carrying it on. I have better things to do with my time

Well if you're not saying that the answer was not based on factual information, and you agree that it would be a waste of time to vote to leave closed a question with a factual answer, then what did the majority of voters bring to the equation?

1. I never spoke about any specific case just in general
2. I agree if a question is incorrectly closed voting to leave it closed is a waste of time. However, if it is correctly closed constantly sending something to review is a waste of time

Isn't the very question whether it was incorrectly closed or not? The very fact that a question is closed implies that the majority of voters fell on the close side.

Not necessarily, you can't VTLO outside of queue and questions can be closed after a CV queue has completed as Leave Open

@Jenayah The other answer was deleted. Normally when an answer gets deleted the last status shows modified by the author of that answer (hence your first Meta question). I therefore assumed that it should have shown "modified by Valorum".
However, it turns out that it doesn't simply display the author of the deleted answer; it actually displays the author of the most recent activity, which just happens to usually be the author of the deleted answer. In this case it wasn't because another answer was posted in between the posting and deletion of the first answer, so the modification got attributed to that author instead.

Does anyone remember the quote where the Death Eaters tried to recruit Lily, if they did?
I'm dealing with a hardcore Snape fan....

@Adamant poke @Alex
ooooh wait... sec
> James and Lily turned him down, that was established in "Philosopher's Stone". He wanted them, and they wouldn't come over, so that's one strike against them before they were even out of their teens.

Hmmm. That's word of God, but so is ftl Accio apparently.

it says to look in book 1 ;)
I'd imagine it being told by Dumbledore at the end?

I admire Snape's positive qualities, but his dedicated defenders go way over the line.
@Jenayah It's just one of those quotes that goes "Your parents...etc."
I think.
Not Lily specifically.
@Jenayah In order to defend Snape, one of his partisans called the Death Eaters a "populist movement" and said it wasn't clear whether Snape was bigoted.
I mean, he has his heroic qualities, but he is also a truly bad person, prejudiced enough that he drove away his best friend, a bully, and a member of a violent pureblood supremacist group straight out of school.
I pointed out that maybe they should consider that Lily might have had it worse, since the Death Eaters actually wanted to kill her, and they responded with the bit about the Death Eaters wanting to recruit her (so I guess that means they never wanted to kill her?)
3
A: What would You-Know-Who want with Lily Potter?

BellatrixMuggle-borns could join the Death Eaters in rare circumstances. Though Lily was a Muggle-born, J.K. Rowling said Muggle-borns were allowed to be Death Eaters, though they were allowed in only in rare circumstances. Exactly what those circumstances would be isn’t specified, but it’s apparently no...

It would be a bit ironic if Bellatrix turned out to be the same person I was talking to. :P

5:51 PM
Don't feed...

@Jenayah They're not a troll, just a big Snape fan.

II don’t think the forst book says they were recruited. Voldemort tells Harry that if he doesn’t join him he’ll meet the same end as his parents.

@Alex Yes, this is just JKR's explanation of the "thrice defied him" bit.
Which is reasonable enough. It doesn't surprise me that a group like the Death Eaters could put aside their prejudices for gain, just like their real-world analogues.
A bit unlikely, though.
And it certainly doesn't mean they didn't want to kill her!
testing
two words
I've found that replacing every instance of what the Snape apologists say with other words is a good drinking game. "Just because Snape joined the Death Eaters Nazis doesn't mean he was a bigot."
"Snape Eliott Rodgers did some bad things but we have to remember that he'd been rejected by his girlfriend."
"The Ministry of Magic pre Nazi-Germany had plenty of bigotry against Muggle-borns Jews, so Voldemort Hitler was only a little bit worse."

6:20 PM

@Jenayah I don't think it was specific, but it would be the Jewish, Christian, Muslim, etc. God due to the Noah thing presumably

Q: Kids movie came out in 90s with wrist watch set alarm for wrestling show but by end is used in another time period

Christopher DavisonI have been trying to find the title of this kid's movie involving these 2 scenes and the best description from what I can remember. Each of the scenes are connected by the use of the watch but in two different time periods in 1980s/1990s and then in the past. First it’s about two best friends (...

^ the movie was supposed to have time travel (so on topic) but the thing turned out so be rural China nowadays, so that's technically off-topic but as the question still is on-topic, so let's leave it open.
@Stormblessed alright. Point still stands though, it's intended to be fiction, so on-topic.

Yeah

For instance, The passion of the Christ would not be on-topic, because it's supposed to portray Jesus' life "as it happened".
If the Wikipedia summary is faithful. I haven't seen the movie, but know it exists
