Q: Looking for a webtoon where a girl's brain gets put in a boy's body

gabI'm looking for a webtoon where a girl has an accident and the only way to save her life is to move her brain. But after her surgery the body she was put into was a boy's body. I think it was on either a line webtoon or a webcomic.

Q: Space-based science fiction series where in each book a character was permanently transformed into a planet's species to find a Macguffin

Mike A.I read these novels in the late 80s or early 90s. In each book, they had to find one of a collection of things, which may have been rings, to do something other like save the universe or whatever. They had the technology to transform someone to another form to match whatever was the dominant spec...

Q: Are the crystals on the hollow planet kyber crystals?

DragonChampion7SPOILER ALERT In season 6 episode 12, Yoda visits a hollow planet that is the origin of midi-chlorians. Near the fissure where he goes in to the planet, there are crystals. Since this is a planet that is strong in the force, I was wondering if those were kyber crystals.

Dave DuPlantisI would have most likely have read this in the '80s or early '90s in a magazine, almost certainly either Analog or Asimov's Science Fiction, two magazines I read regularly back then. 9:06 AM
Anyone wants to write a proper body for ?
Also how do we only have one question on this

Meh tag wiki bodies
People don't read the excerpts most of the time, I certainly don't bother with the bodies

Alright alright

I mean if you have the time and can be bothered to write one go for it but I'm sure there are more productive things you could be doing

Like compiling statistics.

Exactl... Hey wait!
:P

9:29 AM
@AnkitSharma I don't think that Suicide Squad Q needs the tag

@TheLethalCarrot I didn't add but just kept it lying there
Wanted to add DCEU tag only

Aye I saw you added that

I know haha

149 questions so I prefer mods do it with synonym method and it's way bellow character limit.
@Jenayah It's never too late, you can ask more ;)

9:41 AM
@AnkitSharma Agreed, flagged for a mod

@TheLethalCarrot or can't we ping any of them here, @Randal'Thor @Null

Well you can do both or either or doesn't really matter

I have OCD towards tags :D
On movies I try to do with any tag I see but here to limited franchises
Why movie feed don't have MCU tag? Is it due to spoilers??
And we have two or before "+doctor-who+"

Someone goofed

And Star wars can be there too being the top 10 tag and LotR have the
@TheLethalCarrot so many goofup ^

9:54 AM
It wouldn't be SFF without some goofs, a dramatic twist and a cliff hanger to end

SQB
You mean the feeds to this room? I can change that.

Aye the MTV feed

@SQB \yes

SQB
The problem is that we can never have an exhaustive feed.
Currently it's https://movies.stackexchange.com/feeds/tag?sort=newest&tagnames=science-fiction‌+or+fantasy+or+the-hobbit+or+interstellar+or+lord-of-the-rings+or+or+doctor-who+o‌r+star-trek+or+dceu+or+dcau+or+arrowverse+or+harry-potter
I think there is a maximum length.

For starters this can be fixed: +or+or+doctor-who

SQB
9:55 AM
Perhaps we should split it.

@SQB list can never be perfect but skipping SW and MCU will be little too much and LotR is already there with missing "the" which might be added later

SQB
One feed for classics / large tags (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek and so on) and one feed for currently hot tags (recently released films).

@TheLethalCarrot I think somebody removed SW and MCU as it was there before and left extra "or"

Most likely

@SQB it should be "or+the-lord-of-the-rings+or" not "or+lord-of-the-rings+or"
In movies we keep every "the" as long as possible

We try to nowadays but y'know

in current feed lotR will not work for babble fish

science-fiction
fantasy
the-hobbit
interstellar
the-lord-of-the-rings
star-wars
doctor-who
star-trek
dceu
dcau
arrowverse
harry-potter
mcu

SQB
Should I remove any? Such as Interstellar?

10:01 AM
SQB has made a change to the feeds posted into this room

I can't see a need for Interstellar anymore but I dunno

science-fiction
and
fantasy

are rarely used in movies.se after ID ban

Useful though for us to point people over
Might be worth a separate feed though?

Only 6 this year though

10:03 AM
@TheLethalCarrot after crossing 100 it's either dupe or bleh ;)

Aye, so I doubt we need the feed as it stands but I'm not against it

hmmm

I mean if we're removing it and not adding anything in its place not much point
Though I think a separate feed for science-fiction and fantasy might be a good idea to monitor id Qs to bring over here rather than in the main feed

SQB
I'm thinking about a "classics" feed and a "hot new film" feed.
Gives us one steady feed and one to be adjusted regularly.

If you are going to split them, which is probably a decent idea, I'll keep badgering on about the id feed ;P

SQB
10:08 AM
Do you want a feed from Movies & TV?

Is that tag not blacklisted?

SQB
Apparently not.

Aye apparently, can add that to the sci-fi and fantasy feed

SQB
That would be [identify-this-movie][fantasy] OR [identify-this-movie][science-fiction], yeah.

@SQB no, tag is banned
@TheLethalCarrot yes

SQB
10:10 AM
Although I think a migration path to Science Fiction & Fantasy from Movies & TV would be better.
@AnkitSharma can you add a couple of synonyms, perhaps? That would make the feed a bit more manageable.

@SQB I'd have them all separate, people post the genre without the identify now

SQB
@TheLethalCarrot Ah.

At least I've seen some with just genre

@SQB that has been discussed and rejected before and rememeber movies ID are too vague and migrating them need work and rejecting etc will make it messy

SQB
For instance, [got] for [game-of-thrones]?

10:12 AM
@SQB I am not a mod anymore :D

SQB
You're not?
So that's why you're no smurf any more.

I can suggest got for GoT if you want

SQB
I should've noticed.
@TheLethalCarrot on MTV? Please do.

Oh no I can't, forgot the tag needs to exist

SQB
Need to ping @NapoleonWilson then.
Hm. is still one of the top tags on MTV, so I'll leave it in there.
[lotr] for The Lord of the Rings would help too.
I tried adding Game of Thrones to the feed, but it didn't work — got an error. My guess is that the URL is too long.
@NapoleonWilson could you please add [lotr] as a synonym for [the-lord-of-the-rings] and [got] as a synonym for [game-of-thrones], for the benefit of the feed from Movies & TV to Science Fiction & Fantasy?
Popular tags on MTV. Interstellar has more questions than The Lord of the Rings.

@SQB Frankly, those are a little...iffy. But maybe, we'll see what happens.
And of course, if you got some cool reasons for introducing them apart from "it makes the feeds of random off-site chatrooms neater", now'd be the time to voice them. ;-)

I created got here cos I was too lazy to keep typing the full name :P

SQB
Well, they are often used abbreviations. So users on MTV might benefit from them too.

I'd prefer not to go overboard with acronyms, as they're usually quite messy and confusing. But then again, we also have mcu.

SQB
Prevent them to be created as separate tags.

10:28 AM
@SQB Meh, I've never actually seen people try that.

@doppelgreener Ironic that PPCG users gain rep from trying to use less

Is horror films based on real events considered sci-fi herei?

1:00 PM
@AnkitSharma depends what they're about I guess...

Aye give an example...

Slasher movie based on real-life psycho = probably off-topic
Haunted house movie (with an in-movie ghost or stuff) based on whatever creaking sounds a family heard in a little town in the 60s = probably on-topic

@TheLethalCarrot conjuring , The Amityville Horror etc

I think they should both be on topic but I haven't seen them

@Jenayah slasher movies based on fictional character is also off topic in absence of sci-fi fantasy elements
@TheLethalCarrot just curious after seeing annabelle question

1:04 PM
@AnkitSharma aye sure common sense applies
I meant if some psycho hunted a family/couple of friends for three days in a forest and they made a relatively faithful movie about it it's off-topic

@Jenayah but I was more concern about ghost/witch/whatever film based on real stories?

SQB
Saw is off topic, for instance.

If there's a ghost/witch/demon/stuff in the movie it's on-topic

Thinking the living and cursed Annabelle doll is actually real might...be a stretch of "based on real events". ;-)

SQB
And of course there is a grey area.

1:06 PM
@NapoleonWilson wait when you get a chucky doll on Christmas ;)
And now Chucky learn to create Horcrux too so impossible to kill

SQB
Like the Blair Witch Project, for instance.

FuzzyBootsI was looking at the TVTropes entry for The Mirror of her Dreams and I found myself suddenly recalling bits and pieces of what I think was a different novel that I read at the same time (so somewhere in the later 1990s) as a library book from my hometown of Ashland, KY. New question: If Voldemode made chucky as his Hocrux and then chucky split his soul to multiple dolls then do we have to kill all the dolls or only primary?
Bonus point if you use toad spit to kill him

LOL
uh
don't we have that question already?
More or less I mean

Depends how many of the doll copies survived the Infinity Snap (or if that even works on sentient dolls).
HNQ Gold!

1:10 PM
Voldemort would get very cross because Chucky has now broken the rule of 7, so he'll probably destroy Chucky himself.

Like, can a living being who's an Horcrux detach the Horcrux soul piece and put it elsewhere

Maybe flushing doll in toilet will increase HNQness ;)

I imagine Voldemort, being the world's master of horcruxes, would find a way to extract his soul shard from Chucky and put it in something else.

Let me guess... Your school is located in Scotland in an old castle. The headmaster is a quirky old bearded type. The room has a mirror... Looks like some unemployed writer has already spilled the beans about the security system. — Deer Hunter Feb 2 '16 at 21:00
what's that a reference to?

Uh... Harry Potter?

1:11 PM
What if I write Voldemord name in death note? Will death note die?

@AnkitSharma Voldemort's current iteration has a heart attack and dies
I wonder if it'll then refuse to kill his next iteration because his name's in the book already

And what happen if I resurrect the Horcrux
Like if I resurrect nagini
Will voldemort come back too?

People can't be resurrected

@NapoleonWilson eh... probably now that you mention it
:|

I think that we actually have evidence against already.

1:14 PM
Do wizording world have a way to even resurrect ?

nope

That's about what happened to Harry, gettin' killed to get rid of the horcrux and then resurrected.

Q: If no spell can reawaken the dead, how did the resurrection stone work?

prakhar londheDumbledore himself said that no spell can reawaken the dead. Isn't that the main objective of the resurrection stone? If one can't reawaken the dead then what is the use of the stone? Surely then one of the Hallows is flawed?

not truly resurrect though

The only resurrections you can have are fakes.

1:15 PM
(Overly pedantic interpretations of "horcrux", "killing" and "resurrection" notwithstanding, of course.)

@doppelgreener is it a rule? I have not read books and seen most of the fims with sleepy head

@NapoleonWilson Not really a death... It's more an instance of Horcrux acting as a shield or stuff...
Or at leats that's how I read it
@AnkitSharma In the Beedle tales it's explicitly stated that no spells can resurrect the dead

@AnkitSharma It seems to be a rule. Nobody has done it (nobody brings back any of the numerous dead people, nor even mentions it as a possibility) and people like Dumbledore say it cannot be done.

though you can have stuff like Inferi, Horcrux takes the hit, etc

@Jenayah In fact, a lotta people didn't even read it as being an actual horcrux anyway, because JKR said no or whatever.

1:17 PM
whatever, Horcrux or no Horcrux the piece of soul took the hit ;)

@Jenayah what is Beedle tales O.o

1:18 PM
@Jenayah This is SQB's room, stop intruding on our privacy!

@NapoleonWilson there's a full-fledged book with five of them
including the three brothers story

@Jenayah A whole book? They should make it into a prequel series!

SQB
I recently found it at a yard sale.

That's not quite what happened. Instead it was like this:
- Voldemort cast avada kedavra on Harry using the elder wand (who had a Horcrux in him).
- Since Harry was the elder wand's master, it refused to actually kill him: he was not killed at all by the avada kedavra curse. He just entered a sort of limbo where he could've died if he'd chosen to pass on.
- However, Voldemort was not the elder wand's master. The elder wand was totally fine with killing the shard of his soul embedded in Harry.
So Harry was effectively just knocked out for a while by the curse and in a near-death state.

@TheLethalCarrot :P

SQB
1:19 PM
@NapoleonWilson They probably will.

I have to watch all films properly again at some point in my life for curtsy

SQB
Or read the books.

@Jenayah hmmm

From what I recall it's quite explicit that Voldemort made a horcrux out of Harry, albeit entirely by accident. Dumbledore even says that's what Voldemort did.

Q: How did Harry become a Horcrux?

GurujiTo make a Horcrux, certainly murder can't be the only requirement. It is obvious a proper spell is needed for completing a Horcrux. Voldemort could have made a thousand Horcruxes, as he had already murdered a thousand people. But, how on earth did Harry become a Horcrux, with Voldemort murdering ...

> J.K. Rowling addresses whether or not Harry is a proper Horcrux in Pottercast with The Leaky Cauldron (citation below) and reveals that Harry is not a Horcrux. Read on:

"Here is the thing: for convenience, I had Dumbledore say to Harry, "You were the Horcrux he never meant to make," but **I think, by definition, a Horcrux has to be made intentionally.** So because Voldemort never went through the grotesque process that I imagine creates a Horcrux with Harry,

WEIRD

This Horcrux/elder wand question give me anxiety

So he's sort of an incomplete horcrux. He does contain a portion of Voldemort's soul, but he's not a horcrux yet because Voldemort hasn't done the rest of the stuff needed.

answer survived for 4 years as it is so likely not the biggest of deals

@Jenayah "it" should be "is". "Stargate command is the dialing program..."

@Catija alright, fixed -thanks! :)

SQB
While I'm against character tags in general, is an environment in which these tags do make sense, since a lot of characters appear in several franchises, making a character tag the only way to "collect" all questions about them.

wait, what?
oh nevermind

Can I ask an honest question. Why is everyone so 'for this sites way of doing things' ?

2:08 PM
Because people enjoy the way things are done here.. to the most part... if we didn't we'd most likely move on

@KyloRen what/

@KyloRen if I had to wager a guess (and if I understand your question correctly), the people who like it stay, the people who don't, leave, so in the end you're only left with people who agree with the policies in place

Exactly if I didn't enjoy the way the site works I'd move on... like I did with the GoT/ASOIAF subreddits... though I never really spent much time there anyway

@AnkitSharma, So you think things like rep on meta etc is a good thing? I mean, if you post an opinion there and the majority dose not agree you can't post there any more. Is that a good way to promote opinions that may not agree with the way things are? Sure you will say if the majority votes? , but meta is rancid with with old members whose opinions are old.

Rep on meta? You don't earn or lose rep on meta

2:13 PM
or main Meta you meant?

@KyloRen are you talking about main meta?

Main meta

Rep on main Meta has to be taken with a grain of salt

@Jenayah and a grain of privileges lost.

@KyloRen if you suggest something there and majority reject it then you have to accept it. That's how SE run

2:16 PM
IIRC there's a couple of privileges that don't require the same amount of rep on main Meta, DV is one

And you can always ask till you get a ban

@Jenayah Really? I've never paid much attention to things there
Oh aye 100 for down vote

@TheLethalCarrot well I realized that a couple of days ago, when I thought that I had beeen DVing spam when I was still 101 rep on meta
42
A: Change rep required to downvote on MSE

Shog9As of right now, this is done: the "vote down" privilege is awarded at 100 reputation here on Meta Stack Exchange. This should allow folks with the association bonus - or those who earn 100 reputation by participation here - to downvote questions as much as they wish (particularly important for...

My main meta rep is daft... 1507 total, 1130 from two posts on the same feature release post

@AnkitSharma, so why do all of you keep agreeing with status quo? And so I am proposing a serious concern with all the necessary politeness am I am threatened with a ban? Yeah, this site has no issues.

2:20 PM
You're not threatened with a ban from 1 post about a concern... there have to be multiple... to be honest I didn't even know main meta had automatic question bans enabled

@KyloRen I have no such power on this site to threaten I was saying facts and need context fro status quo think you are saying

@KyloRen wait, I've lost context. Are we still talking about main Meta?

@AnkitSharma, but you and everyone else has the power to flag a comment ,post and if I am flagged I get banned.
@Jenayah, before your time. I have been banned longer than you are a member, actually twice as long.

Sure we can flag but it has to be handled by a mod to then agree it's worth acting on and then it isn't just one thing that will cause a ban

@KyloRen uh, no. If someone in the powers that be deems the issue brought with the flag to be worthy of a ban, one gets banned. "Just" flags don't get auto bans... It would be hell otherwise

2:24 PM
@KyloRen To be honest you keep bringing up "I was banned" and "if I do X I will be banned again", why don't you learn from why you have been banned multiple times and move on from it? Stop living in the past, learn from your mistakes and carry on

(well, enough spam/RA flags on one same post might auto-delete the post, unsure about a ban or rep loss, but you get my point)
well now there's been quite the purge here :P scifi.stackexchange.com/q/24320/98028

@TheLethalCarrot, and the mods want to get rid of extra work and they ban users who pose a problem. You may want to refer to the comment that "Rand al'Thor" in this thread scifi.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/12183/…?
noredirect=1#comment41982_12183. And to answer the second comment, b/c I don't agree. Why should I shut up? Things are not right on this site and need to be aired if the site is to get better.
It is great that they implement the more strict "be nice" policy, but it still does not work and obviously they see a problem somewhere. Since the site has expanded to non programming questions they need to address those sites separately and when things like this is brought up in Main meta it is always shot down. They need to listen to anyone else but the site drones that post here or should I say on main meta in particular.

@KyloRen If the majority doesn't agree with your meta proposals and votes them down, you...can actually still continue proposing stuff.

@TheLethalCarrot not that I disagree ahah :P

2:32 PM
Lol

Of course if you end up banned, that might get more difficult. But against "common belief" you don't actually get banned for proposing unpopular ideas.

@KyloRen wait, this comment?
or another one? (the linked one isn't from Rand)

Well you can get automatically question banned eventually if you are solely making requests everyone powerfully disagrees with, and absolutely no requests anyone agrees with. That's a feature though. If you are proposing enough to trigger that automatic ban, it is time to take a break from proposing stuff, and one should probably spend that time learning how the system works because they are clearly missing things.

@KyloRen main Meta has one rule:
Sep 7 at 17:20, by Jenayah
@Alex "Is it going to be useful for Stack Overflow, Super User and Server Fault? No? Then why should we care about it?"

@NapoleonWilson, like I said, Meta does not promote much. Many extremely up-voted question as "feature requests" have not been implemented. And yes, unpopular requests allow you to get privileges lost for your account.

2:37 PM
What do you really need privileges for on main meta anyway?

@doppelgreener, that is the exact problem with this site, "don't agree and your done" great example, thanks.

@KyloRen just because people like it, doesn't mean it should get implemented... Policies are a thing, "technical"/design system is another.
TL;DR: Feature requests aren't a democracy and I don't think they should be.

There's no way they can be sure, the community might strongly want something but if it's going to take "too long" to implement for the benefits it'll give it won't get done

@TheLethalCarrot See the vote balance!

2:39 PM
@Jenayah, when the web sites is user based, then yes, I think the users opinion should carry some weight.

It does carry some weight but ti would stupid for it to carry most of the weight

@Jenayah Agreed, but to his defense, Meta Stack Exchange currently is in somewhat of a crisis with regards to how much user feedback is really worth it (and how that viewpoint differs between how it works now and how it worked in the past, and how people have been taught to expect it to work).

@KyloRen they do. Just because each popular FR isn't implemented (once again, that would probably not be the best thing to do), doesn't mean it's not read, heard, analysed etc. Well, it kind of isn't (per latest Meta dramas, Twitter, HNQ etc), but you get my point

@TheLethalCarrot, as opposed to a question that receives only 48 votes for a feature request by the owner and is implemented and a feature request gets over 700 votes that is not. Does that seem like a good thing to any of you?

@KyloRen Depends on the FRs and as I can't see the codebase or know the internals of the company I can't answer. If the 48 one was a change of a string and the 700 one was a completely new feature then yes it does work well

2:44 PM
@KyloRen what TLC said ^ there's just too much to think of to give a general "it's fair/unfair" answer

@KyloRen If one keeps putting inappropriate suggestions in, one gets asked to cease putting in suggestions for a while. Sounds pretty reasonable.
Like, at that point it would be clear there is a very profound mismatch. The amount of strongly-objected-to feature requests necessary for that automatic ban is quite a lot with absolutely no positively-received feature requests.
Automatic bans are hard to get.
That is far more than "if people disagree you're out". It's "you have made 50 different suggestions in a row that are complete nonsense or absolutely unworkable, please take a break."

LOL, A feature request like changing the question up-vote weight receives only 48 votes. But a question for another similar feature request with 700+ votes is denied. Yeah, I don't call that fair.

Lots of people voting for it doesn't mean it's a good idea or practical or possible.
There are no doubt 700+ people in support of turning the network into a generic structureless voteless discussion forum. Doesn't mean they should be listened to.

And to be clear a lot of my Main Meta posts were down-voted due to duplicates of the question, THAT did receive a very positive reception. So I am down-voted for a dup to a positively received question before. Is that the Meta we want?

@KyloRen could you please provide links for both these? I know you provided the gist of the question but surely there's more to the body that could explain the votes or lack thereof

2:52 PM
I propose a topic change, to whit: who dies if Barry the Chopper is written in the death note?

@doppelgreener is he human?

He's a soul bonded to a suit of armor, and his body is still around with a different soul in it.

Fine, a question I posted on meta main. question was down-voted -20, meta.stackexchange.com/questions/280818/…;. The linked dup question was upvoted +487 meta.stackexchange.com/questions/125/…. So is the meta we need?

this isn't really the place to be discussing that
doppelgreener requested a topic change; please be mindful of that

@doppelgreener er... First rule is "the human whose name is written in thgis note shall die". That doesn't explicitely rule out non-humans

2:57 PM
I guess Barry's soul-bonded self would die, and his human body would die too. :l
