It's a reference to something I read but cannot find at the moment about a teacher who had this grandiose interpretation about what a certain author's poem or other work meant, which when the author read tried to correct the teacher about. Dare I ask whether we've had any conversations in the last few days about TLJ? Seems to be contraversial.

So, what's the technical differences between cake and pie? Both are 'taart' in Dutch

Is this a safe place to discuss The Last Jedi ... or will people be upset with spoilers?

I just don't understand the controversy that's built up around it ... fwiw I was quite disappointed by it, thought it was less interesting and less entertaining than The Force Awakens - I just don't understand the hate and the love that had sprung up around it. It seems to have attracted a ridiculous level of argument.

Although I shouldn't take Twitter as a medium for sensible discourse, I've seen normally relatively sensible people question people's motives for disliking it and visa versa.

I haven't paid too much attention, but I didn't gather more than the normal levels of Star Wars upinarmsery. I had the impression people generally liked it.

Well I think its gathered much more than normal levels of both love and hate for it. Its gathered only 55% positive for users of rotten tomatoes. My family were entirely unimpressed - even people at work were "I enjoyed it but it was substandard".

To me the whole "TFA is ANH!" debate seemed a lot more intense than anything I've heard about TLJ yet.

But as said, I'm not on top of things anway, since I haven't seen it either yet.

Interesting ... yes, I thought that "starkiller base" was disappointing, felt lazy - but honestly I enjoyed it far more than TLJ. American audiences are prone to clap and cheer in movies, and I saw that in TFA, but not in TLJ.

@iandotkelly I got no problem with this. TLJ is already spoiled for me in order to answer a few SW questions. ;)

TFA was a lot similar to ANH IMO.

There's no argument about that. It was practically a remake.

Though as a movie it had more intense moments - the falcon vs tie fighters on the planet, rey's vision and rey's fight with kylo ren than anything in the last jedi.

The last 30 minutes of TLJ was decent. How they resolve the final situation was good - but the vast majority of the rest of the movie was quite bland imho.
