Do we need to flag them, or just have someone with enough rep roll it back?

Normally we just do a rollback, unless it's repeated behaviour, i think.

1:36 PM
@JarkoDubbeldam if an rollback-rollback war ensues flag for mod attention but i guess glorfindel already did
then a mod most likely will roll back and lock the post for editing

You could mod flag them if it's serial vandalism. On Stack Overflow, vandalism is usually reverted very fast; on other sites, it might be useful to suggest an edit rolling it back.

alrighty

@Undo If you're thinking about the "," at the end of a question title, that was a troll on IPS
Catija asked me to implement it, and I did so, first iteration only for IPS. Art rightfully pointed out 2/2 is too few test cases and (then) current records made it accurate enough to be sitewide, but it seems I was mistaken

keeping it on for IPS for a while is probably still a good idea
and thanks for the quick turnaround for implementing that

If I were an instructor for a college course (considered it), I'd spend a lecture teaching how to ask on SO and require students post a well received question there. Students need to know that SO is available, but they also need to know how to help themselves before dumping an assignment on SO.

@Andy That would be a bad idea (tm)

That'd also give me a slight advantage as an instructor...I'd know all of their user names and could watch them the rest of the course to make sure they didn't cheat

Usual computer science students have NO questions that haven't already been answered on SO

I disagree. Teach them how to ask a proper question would be a good thing

2:03 PM
@JakeSymons Smokey only uses 3 autoflags at most on a post, and with so many people registered yours won't be used on every post

Requiring them to ask a question would only teach them to game the systems
You need a unique problem first and get to question asking from there ... uni students tend to get run of the mill uni problems
You know these were 20 dupes already exist

How to ask a good question also includes how to not ask a bad question... which includes how to search for a problem first.

^

Then you'll force your students to contrive a good question scenario
not sure how good an idea that is

Well it's gibberish so yeah it's abusive

@quartata oh I only thought that was for something that was actually rude

It means it is abusing the system :) but you should have a look at the answer/question to determine if it is v for vandalism (i.e. a user vandalized their own post) or abusive (i.e. its a first answer without edits)

@Videonauth I thought it was abusing the OP. Thanks for cleaning that up I can get some more of those flags now because normally I flag it as NAA

well you get a certain amount of flags to start with, with successful/helpful flags this amount rises, as well it raises from participating and gaining reputation, Example on AskUbuntu I have 100 flags available per day as of now

100 is the max

@quartata why don't we have a R/a flag on MS below the Spam flag??
Aren't they both "red flags"

6:13 PM
yes, but metasmoke can only issue spam flags
because both types should be treated identically by handling moderators, so there's not much point expending extra effort to implement R/A flags

@ArtOfCode So can I flag something Spam that's R/a??

yes, technically
I tend to use the "right" flag if I'm flagging manually, just in case, but autoflagging doesn't care

@ArtOfCode would that get declined though?

Depends on who's handling it.

@JakeSymons it shouldn't be, but sometimes they are
