Why do we look for title ends with comma?

fp- by Videonauth
fp by suraj

@SmokeDetector why

@Videonauth Title - Position 1-74: How can I make multiple input forms for a single google line spreadsheet,

very informative

12:32 PM
@JakeSymons hmm metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/… 3 positves 8 fps not a good ratio

@SurajRao so why do we look for it?

it was requested last week because a troll on IPS was posting abusive messages with a comma at the end of the title
on Friday I think

@tripleee is editing out the comma a "trivial" edit if there is nothing else to edit in the post

@JakeSymons not sure if the guidance will be the same across sites, I'd guess some will probably reject it as not helpful if that's the only thing you change (and usually with that sort of attention to detail in the title, there will be things to fix in the body too)
this one is not actually even a programming question as far as I can tell

@tripleee Edits have to be a certain amount of chars anyway
So flag it as off topic??

12:36 PM
regarding the rule, I guess we want to tolerate a bit of FPs for a while until we are reasonably convinced that the troll is not coming back and/or changed MO and/or the FP burden clearly outweighs the benefits

Why can I tpu with Spam flag on MS but can't reply tpu because it says I need privileges

Because they're separate privilege levels, you don't have reviewer or chat privileges just flagger privileges

@quartata but on MS it says From review

5:20 PM
Yeah, it says that for any feedback not created by a userscript

@quartata okay, just checking that it was meant to happen and I hadn't broken anything again :)
@everyone Do we have a bot that looks for comments like Smokey does Q&A

Comments get very little spam. You need 50 rep to post comments anywhere other than your own question.

@Andy so its really not needed then
at least we don't have to flag all comments as well :)

nope

@Andy on SO when you go to flag as off-topic what is the difference between not about programming and belongs on another SE

5:32 PM
The second one is attempting to get it migrated to the other site.

@Andy what happens if its on a site that doesn't come up on the list

Then you can't migrate it automatically
Each site has a limited number of migration targets

@Andy so flag as mod to migrate, or not about programming?

Related to your comment thing (disclaimer...it's by me): meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/280546/…
@JakeSymons Fair warning...there is a decent chance it won't be migrated. We don't migrate crap.

Yes. Other sites are not the toilet bowl of Stack Overflow. If it's crap on SO, it's crap elsewhere.

@Undo Why do we sychronize on api requests?
(GlobalVars.api_request_lock)
is it to avoid clobbering the stored backoff value or something?

That's another interesting one. There was a point probably 1-2 years ago when we were having API backoff issues all the time. I had an issue theory, implemented locking to address said issue, and we stopped having backoffs. So I'm gonna say it fixed it
Here's the theory:
1. It's a multithreaded thing, with multiple threads trying to use the API at the same time
2. Those threads do respect the backoff
Buuuut, here's what I thought was happening: One thread receives a backoff, and sets the backoff timer. Then another thread sees the backoff timer and waits, say, five seconds. In that five seconds, we get a bunch of posts in that start more threads wanting to make API reqs
So, essentially, we would receive a backoff, wait the recommended time.... then send a whole bunch of queued requests all at once
which is not desirable, really
Locking is implemented so that we only send one request at a time, ever. Which means we don't hammer the API after a single backoff - we wait the backoff, send the next request, then respect the backoff before the next request (if we get a backoff)
September of 2016.
Sep 14 '16 at 22:39, by undo
I still think just respecting the backoffs would work best :P

@ArtOfCode I think the problem is that Smokey tokens (GlobalVars.metasmoke_key) aren't being accepted as valid V2 API keys
that's a regression

sounds maybe right

@Undo hmm
that's tough
OK, well since I have to use a lock regardless in the event that someone does a manual report while fetching a post
I might as well then do said fetch from a process
so that will stay, but I have to make it a multiprocessing.Lock is all
in shmem

9:52 PM
@quartata Should do the same thing

Yeah they're identical
The only different is that when you make a pthread lock in order for a child process to use it you have to initialize it differently or something
I don't remember the details but they don't matter, Python takes care of it
Why a hard sleep of time.sleep(3) by the way?
there's a comment that says wait to make sure API has/updates post data
The only other thing I need to keep in shared memory then is GlobalVars.api_backoff_time

@quartata Link?
oh, I remember that
We were hitting issues with the API not recognizing posts we were asking for. We asked for them too quickly after they were created.
It may or may not be an issue now. Could be tested.

3 seconds is a very long sleep which is why I ask
I'll leave it in for more meaningful benchmarking

You can definite experiment with getting rid of it completely. Just check to make sure we actually get the information for the posts we expect

kind of not a fair comparison if I take that out

10:06 PM
@quartata Could you just subtract three seconds?

I was going to measure post scan rate so
since I can compare to stats on Metasmoke too

oh, that makes sense
Looking at the sleep can definitely wait for another day
