Although whenever I have a 3.0 device, I'll plug it in to the SS ports on my machine so I can use the speed. (At this point, the only non-SS port on my laptop doesn't work at all.)

the routing table is handled by the kernel on most systems, but Linux provides provision for multiple routing tables to be defined and selected

it's a low level syscall and per-process, I think
