er... looks heavily underspecified in my opinion

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

ChristopherI want you to make my headphones noise canceling! Input Sound from the default mic on the computer it is run on. Output The sound inverted and and volume halved via the default sound output. Rules Standard loopholes. Winning: Shortest delay from input to output.

is there a way to see how many downvotes specifically a user has posted?

11:18 PM
(scroll right down)

@trichoplax oh thanks

this is good way to filter good candidates for mod :P

Might be nice to have a list of such lesser known data if ever there's a need for another election...

11:25 PM
guess I'm never voting for a taco WAIT WHAT
:| how can I be downgoat but have more upgoats

maybe you're an upgoat after all :O

Upside-down goat.

Hi guys

o/

I got 13 upvotes on one of my questions today!

11:38 PM
Congrats.

i got 9 :(

@NoahCristino people tend to answer trivial questions in bulk

Can someone who knows math do a sanity-check on this answer of mine?

Yea, Erik answered like 7 times

11:41 PM
I mean, I cite Wikipedia as a source so it's probably not reliable, but... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@NoahCristino The answers show it's trivialish, the upvotes show it's a good question :P

@NoahCristino get used to it :P Him and Leaky Nun will have at least half the answers on any good question

@HyperNeutrino I'm 14, I think this is a little to complex

lol I'm 15 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@NoahCristino I think he is too though, or close to that

11:41 PM
@HyperNeutrino me too!

@StepHen sike I'm more than that

@StepHen how old are you?

@HyperNeutrino I meant almost as in approximately

Ah ok.

@StepHen come into my lair

11:42 PM
Typically "almost 14" means "not quite 14" :P

almost 15

hey I'm 5 Math.SE rep away from being able to see blue circles

@cairdcoinheringaahing 18, just graduated high school so I can say bye to you kids soon and go to college

What do you mean blue circles?

:P

11:42 PM
@NoahCristino The dreaded Chat Flags

@NoahCristino don't worry about it

They're not too common (I hope). At least not here.

@HyperNeutrino should we get Noah learning Jelly?

Ooh interesting idea.

11:43 PM
@NoahCristino do you want to learn a new programming language?

um I wouldn't start on Jelly xD

You should learn RProgN2

@NoahCristino Would you be interested in learning Jelly? It's the language I used first to answer your challenge (+U)

I tried to learn jelly before
Sure

Ooo :D

11:44 PM
It also blows your brain if you've never done functional or tacit programming

@NoahCristino how much did you learn?

I looked at it
and quit

RProgN2 is a stackbased golf-language like golf-script except it doesn't make anywhere near as much sense.

11:45 PM
This is our training room.

I know one thing in jelly

@HyperNeutrino You know there's a Jelly chat room, right?

Stack based golfing languages are a lot easier to understand, but are usually not as short

@HyperNeutrino let's wait a bit until Hypertraining

@MDXF Yes I know that :P

11:45 PM
nvm

Still has the shortest quine :P

Let's not scare him away :P

accept my access

@ATaco that's because you cheat >.< jk
@NoahCristino You'll have to wait for Erik or Leaky to do that.

11:46 PM
They're the teachers.

« . ` is the shortest non-cheating quine.

@MDXF Although no one uses it (that I know of) Extended ASCII might want a place

@HyperNeutrino I requested access

@NoahCristino until they let you in, do you want to learn some basic Jelly?

@StepHen Extended ASCII == CP-1252

11:47 PM
@MDXF I thought it was probably one of those abbreviations, thanks

@MDXF Win-1252 != Extended Ascii

Sure @cairdcoinheringaahing

@NoahCristino do you know what TIO is?

Yup
Try it online
the website

@ATaco It isn't?!?

11:48 PM
Find the Jelly TIO page (tio.run/#jelly) and right click on "Jelly"

Extended ascii is ascii with box drawing characters and such.
Win-1252 is the generic international character set.

0/10 use Ctrl-Click
Also we got a new OE monad today \o/

I did that

Huh... either way, the ASCII table link has Extended ASCII in it too

@NoahCristino have you got the github page open?

11:49 PM
yes

TMK Win-1252 has all of Extended Ascii.

Click on the link to "Atoms" at the bottom of the README

@NoahCristino Now turn your keyboard into a keyboard that can type out 256 different random weird characters, or just CtrlC CtrlV them all the time

@HyperNeutrino 0/10 use middle click

11:50 PM
^^

@NoahCristino thats all the commands we're going to use at the moment

I use Middle-click...

@NoahCristino the first program you should try is adding 2 numbers together

Yea, how do you type all these special characters?
ok caird

@NoahCristino copy and paste

11:51 PM
0/10 I don't have a middle-click

I made a-ta.co/jelly with the intention of having all documentation there and easy to search, you can also type Ctrl-S, type a name or function of an atom, and press enter to insert it.
It doesn't support input though.

Oh wait my mouse is right next to me plugged into my laptop lol

@HyperNeutrino 0/10 bluetooth mice

0/10 too confusing

@HyperNeutrino Jelly?

@NoahCristino can you take input?

oh
Ill add that in

@NoahCristino see where it says "Arguments", use that rather than "Input"

Here @NoahCristino: Open up this TIO link and modify the code section to make it add the numbers together.
well actually never mind then :P

@HyperNeutrino I had a spoiler, keep yours

11:54 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing please don't give answers away until after the student has done it themselves or cannot figure it out.

I tried ɠ+4
and it didn't work

@NoahCristino try the link that Hyper gave you ^^^

Don't use the input atom for now.
Use Arguments. Jelly uses command line arguments rather than input.
I don't even actually know what ɠ+4 does :P

ok
ɠ
said it got a line from STDIN

Oh yeah that takes input which you can't add to an integer because it's taking a string from STDIN

11:56 PM
@NoahCristino ignore that for the moment

I've never used the input/output commands in my entire Jelly career; I've always used the implicit left/right arguments and implicit return value output.

@HyperNeutrino do you want to take over, or am I fine helping?

³+⁴
got it

@NoahCristino Jelly has implicit input, which means you don't need to refer to it. You should be able to remove 2 characters from that

So just +

11:58 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing You're fine helping :)

@NoahCristino does that work?

@NoahCristino good. That's your first program! Do you want to try another?

yea
wait
I just tried +x2

@NoahCristino try subtracting two numbers now

11:59 PM
and it outputed [12, 12]

You are in for a treat.

First of all x is not multiply, it's list repeat.
That did add, repeat twice

oh
× looked like x

Also, mini-challenge: Try to figure out what does given two arguments.

on github

11:59 PM
@ATaco its always fun to drag initiate new users :)

@NoahCristino it's confusing, isn't it!
