9:12 AM
@RichardU you here?

3 hours later…
12:02 PM
@Lilienthal FYI this was flagged.

@Lilienthal you seem to be referring to the same people that flag such statements ^^
after like 14 hours
maybe they just have reaaaaallly sloooooow internet?

BTW site scopes are either limited or boring.
No site is both AFAICT.

* Prepares popcorn *

@RaoulMensink Well, 3 hours later… will turn you down.
And I was always under the impression that Workplace was a site full of opinions rather than answers :P
I know I know, the HNQ destroys our image and blah blah blah, but I always love a good cat fight.

@ChristopherEstep do you not agree that most equality measures have had to be 'forced' on society at large? I'm not saying this is a case where that needs to happen, but objecting to being forced is no reason to attack the idea itself.

12:12 PM
@M.A.R. Wel how one acts within and around the workplace is a matter of values and opinions. Where we filter questions based on the value of the qeustion and aswers have.
@M.A.R. what site are you speaking of btw? since HNQ destorys most Images except puzzle but then again thats just one odd site all together

Is someone ust going through the backlog and randomly flagging stuff?

Honest question: Can you really expect to make statements like "virtue signalling","keep that gender nonsense off this site","Diversity losers", "So fucking sick of the gender crusade" and not expect someone to comment back about it? And then they're the bad person for being too sensative?
I've tried to give good faith here, but at some point a person needs to step back and realize that they are not as open-minded as they think they are about an issue.

12:28 PM
@DoritoStyle No, but then again I don't think that was ment to be as such. However I see the Point where someone would say just dont as one has yet to read between the lines.
@DoritoStyle I would love some People to take that Point, as I am currently getting a bit tired of that with certain People as well, but then again troles will be troles, haters will be haters and if Trump Fails then we've seen the biggest trole fail as per usual

I'm also a bit "sensitive" about the word troll at this point. I think it needs to go the way of "reputation whore", but that's a whole other discussion :)

@DoritoStyle "to go the way of" Sorry, I dont quite get that?

@RaoulMensink sorry, that's a somewhat colloquial phrase I used.
It basically means to "receive the same treatment"

Kaz
@DoritoStyle Not sure treatment is the best translation. Maybe "Outcome".

Maybe so

Kaz
12:35 PM
When I hear "go the way of", I associate it more with dying out rather than being killed off.

@Kaz Would love to have the cure for it though :D
I miss my shotgun T_T

@@DoritoStyle don't be so sensitive to the word troll, it's all water under the bridge now.

I disagree. Calling someone a troll is an insult about the person. Telling someone not to be offended at an insult is not constructive.
Also, the word just has too many connotations on the 'net these days, no?

12:50 PM
@DoritoStyle You're free to disagree. It doesn't make you right, but you're free to disagree

Same as the word "bias", wouldn't you agree?

@DoritoStyle No.
@DoritoStyle a "troll" is one who posts to get a reaction. nothing more than that

After all, you took a lot of offense at someone using the word "bias", but then I'm supposed to be less sensitive about "troll"?

"troll" once was a pretty well defined term and mostly stating a fact, but now that universities ban words like "female", "troll" is probably gender fluid

@PlasmaHH how is that constructive?

12:52 PM
@DoritoStyle there is something fishy about your assertion.

@RichardU is someones actions are bad, they can be called out on what they should do differently. If all that can be said is to label them a troll, then that's resorting to insulting their person, which is strictly disruptive and insulting behavior.

@DoritoStyle just saying that everything is offensive, if you just want to

@DoritoStyle I'm offended by your lack of taking my autism into account

@RichardU how would you describe someone who downvotes you after losing an discussion and afterwards feels insulted for calling him out on his true intent? Which in my case is a sour loser.

@PlasmaHH it's not constructive because it attempts to debase my assumption that calling someone a troll is an objective insult, which I think is not a claim you can easily refute.

12:54 PM
@RaoulMensink I'd call that person a jerk, or weak and vindictive, personally

@DoritoStyle so its only constructive when it is on your side?

@DoritoStyle a troll is someone who posts to elicit a reaction, nothing more

That's attacking the person again RichardU, and it's not constructive

@PlasmaHH that sums up his rulebook nicely. I believe he's trolling again

@PlasmaHH do you disagree that "troll" is an insult, or are you just trying to steer the conversation away from my point?

12:56 PM
@RichardU given that this has been flagged, possible

Kaz
Guys. Could you all, voluntarily, take a minute of timeout and try to stop with the personal attacks.
You know, before somebody comes and actually timeouts the room.

who attacked whom?

I don't see any attacks either.

Being insulted by personal attacks is not something that's "only on my side", how could you cliam that?

I do see some hypersensitivity though

12:57 PM
We need another timeout, and for @enderland or @MonicaCellio to weigh in here.

@DoritoStyle there was a time where "troll" was an objective statement, but these days, being an insult is based on the receivers feelings only

Kaz
Fine, try "Language likely to elicit a non-constructive response"

@PlasmaHH I troll constantly on other sites.

@PlasmaHH if anything the opposite is true, given that "troll" is less well-defined than ever, it's just a baseless insult.
and therefore not-constructive at all.

@RichardU everyone does, its a matter of how much you do it and if its your lifestyle or just a mood

12:59 PM
Frankly, "troll" these days sometimes means "I don't like this person for disagreeing with me"

@DoritoStyle that sentence contradicts itself

How so

@PlasmaHH I've calmed down in my old age, but I have brought entire boards to their knees about 15 years ago.

@M.A.R. I'm not entirely surprised, it was a slightly inappropriate comment.

@DoritoStyle i say "troll isnt objectively defined anymore" and you say "the opposite is true, it is less well defined"
@RichardU that sounds like the ugly kind of troll people have in mind when they want to use the word as an insult

1:00 PM
@RichardU I called the person out on his ignorance he didnt like it.

you said: there was a time where "troll" was an objective statement
I agree that it is no longer objective
and therefore, baseless
The "opposite" I was trying to refer to is the claim that it's "based on the receivers feelings only"

@Lilienthal well this is an Internet Chatroom not the royal court

If you hurl a baseless insult at someone, then I don't think there's any reason for them not to be offended

well, you can't expect people to keep up with the ever changing definition of words anyways, people will mostly use the words they grew up with as meaning those things they grew up with

@RaoulMensink I wouldn't do that to someone.

1:03 PM
@DoritoStyle could you in short explain your Goal to me?

Anyway, gotta run to work, I hope you guys will take a steop back and actually try to empathize with me for a change.

@DoritoStyle perhaps you should be less eager to be offended

@RichardU I normally wouldnt either, but I felt it was nessesary to get my Point across.

@RichardU that statement seems to be based on the predicate that you should be allowed to be offensive, and I disagree wholeheartedly. SE is a constructive community with no room for such shenanigans.

Just curious but what ever happened to "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.

1:04 PM
We moved out of the 50's, that's what happened

@RaoulMensink well, there are always exceptions.

"SJWs" another offensive term used to insult people who disagree with you

@DoritoStyle do you know why the phrase is "take offense"? because it cannot be given, only taken

How about attacking someone;s point instead of relying on weak name-calling?

@DoritoStyle then why do SJW's refer to themselves as SJWs?

1:05 PM
QUESTION! what is SJWs?

Kaz
@RichardU *some*

"because it cannot be given, only taken" That's pretty sounding B.S.

Social justice warriors

Kaz
@RaoulMensink "Social Justice Warrior". Commonly synonymised with "Special Snowflake" and other phrases with a similar connotation.

@Kaz how is that an Insult?

1:05 PM
@DoritoStyle there is literally nothing you can do to offend me

@RichardU why do some people of color refer to themselves by the names given by their opressors? not relevant to the discussion

@RaoulMensink it's not an insult. It's a term they always use for themselves.
@DoritoStyle non sequitur

@RaoulMensink it is used to insult someone for being overly-sensative and "too" polically correct
@RichardU yes, non sequitur, that's exactly what you did, thanks

@DoritoStyle no, it's a descriptive of behaviors

No, it's a name used to label people

1:07 PM
@DoritoStyle #fakeoffended

it may have connotations with actions in your head, but it's a name, and insults someone's charachter

@DoritoStyle I will acknowledge that they are characters

@DoritoStyle could you go to work, before you are late?

@RaoulMensink ROFL!

Hey, a new room. Don't think I've been here for flags before. Afternoon, all.

1:08 PM
@RichardU what? he said so himself. I wouldnt wanna be late to work for this
@ArtOfCode Welcome :)

i for one have been noticing these flags and feel there has been more than a bit of unnecessary vindictiveness in this room

Oli
Just a polite reminder that the "be nice" rules extend to Chat. Anything that can't be said respectfully has no place here. If this grumbling and flagging carries on I'll just freeze the room, drop the mic and walk away.

Indeed there has.

As an FYI, those flags are starting to draw attention and mods from other sites are joining to see what's going on.

1:11 PM
Ohhh thats why your names are gray

Freezing entirely might be a little excessive for the actions of a couple people, but there are certainly other tools that can be used.

@RaoulMensink If you click on their avatars/names, they also have a diamond beside their name. Moderators anywhere on Stack Exchange are moderators in all chat rooms. (Maybe with an exception for the Stack Overflow chat? That one operates on its own server.)

@RaoulMensink blue, but yeah

Colorblind :X

Ah

1:14 PM
@doppelgreener I've only ever seen ROs in SO chat, never mod names

Kaz
@Zacharee1 Italic names are ROs, Blue names are Mods.

@Kaz that's what I meant

Welcome back all. Thanks to the various mods for joining, I really do hope we can get back to productive chat.

@DoritoStyle now I get the meaning of the name

@Zacharee1 far fewer mods in SO chat. 20 of 'em, compared to around 500 of us here.

1:15 PM
I'm not sure how productive a discussion is that produces 5 invalid flags in 10 minutes.

that being said how many flaggs did we get for this?

@ArtOfCode oh well that explains it

I didn't find the disussion having to explain why name-calling was insulting to be productive at all
I also don't think the flags were invalid. Mod intervention was required.

then you flag for moderator, not flag as inappropriate

@DoritoStyle FYI, there's two types of flags

1:16 PM
What's with all the blues in the room all of a sudden?

@RichardU that's not helping

It was inappropriate and unproductive

@RichardU Can you please cease with facetiously attacking people

@Lilienthal a "discussion" led to a chat flagging spree which called in a lot of people

Ah ok.

1:17 PM
@doppelgreener I am attacking nobody

Kaz
@Lilienthal #FunWithFlags

did one of the mods just delete our favorites?

@RichardU Revise your definition of "attacking" then, because you are.

Kaz
@RichardU You don't get to decide, unilaterally, what constitues an attack.

@doppelgreener who are the people I am attacking
@Kaz. defending actually, but why quibble

1:18 PM
@DoritoStyle in the future, if you need to get moderator attention, would you mind using the moderator flag instead of the chat flag? That way, you won't ping every single 10k+ user in chat.

@RichardU You are being deliberately obtuse, and I've no interest in entertaining it.

::sigh:: @RichardU I ignored you here before, but after some productive discussion on the main site I decided to give it a second chance. I see now that you are either not interested in or not capable of productive debate in chat, so I'm going to take the high-road and ignore you again. I am telling you here since you seem to have missed my private room last time.

Kaz
@RichardU If somebody takes your message as an attack, maybe that's you, maybe that's them. If multiple people take your messages as an attack, then that shifts the balance of probabilities in favour of "you".

@doppelgreener I am autistic and have difficulty knowing which is which
sincere question

@doppelgreener then just Humor me this one, why are you the one leading the "Argument" against Richard then?

Kaz
1:20 PM
@doppelgreener Just for context, @RichardU Is autistic. Obtuse is (to an extent) how our minds are wired.

@RaoulMensink That's an odd way to frame "some people were arguing in a room, and enough flags got raised that multiple moderators had to arrive and tell people to stop, and I am pointing out some things that are going wrong here."

@doppelgreener I am not being deliberately obtuse. The only person I was engaging was @DoritoStyle you said people, I am asking who else

@doppelgreener yes, which would mean you could leave it to an mod would it not? Whom respectivly came here for an reason and are probeply more capable of handling this. Honestly with my Class 4 Autism and the fact someone been bugging me since last week here doesnt help, but still seems to me like a valid question.

Oct 19 at 21:32, by enderland
It's possible to disagree on the internet. there are respectful and disrespectful ways to do this - making the argument about the other person almost always will end poorly in that regard

@RichardU Ok, sincere answer: your responses to DoritoStyle, such as the one a moderator said was not helping, appear in all ways to be attempts to mock an individual, make light of their stance, and stress them out and be unpleasant toward them as an individual. One would easily consider that to be in the direction of verbal bullying, and a concise word for it is calling it an attack.

1:24 PM
Everyone please read your pinned message. This argument is not constructive.

Kaz
@RichardU And just speaking as a (hopefully, somewhat) neutral observer with (possibly) relevant personal experience, I consider your language, generally "likely to elicit a non-constructive response from most people". If you want, at a better time, I'll walk you through specific things I've noticed and my own thoughts on how and why they tend to lead to non-desired outcomes.

sigh I appreciate your efforts, all, but there comes a point where maybe it is best to leave it to the diamonds.

I will do so then. ^

Oli
Indeed. Drop it. Continuing this circle of blame and quote and blame and quote will result in a frozen room.

@Kaz I would actually appreciate that. At times I am better than others. I do not know when I am actually saying inappropriate or when people are just saying I am.
I tend to believe what I am told and have been suckered into being silenced in the past.
It is not my intention to be disruptive.

Kaz
1:27 PM
@RichardU I can relate ^^
It feels like there's a million rules that you're just supposed to know despite the fact that nobody ever writes them down or can even articulate them in a useful, descriptive, way.

@Kaz my biggest problem is that over the years, I've learned to mirror people to "fit in", unfortunately, that includes bad behavior.

@Kaz alas figuring out social complexities is quite the difficult task, and everyone's gotta do it anew

and I'm never quite sure when something is inappropriate. Kind of like Data from Star Trek when he tried to learn humor
@doppelgreener but our brains are wired differently.

"am I funny yet"

there are physiological differences
@ArtOfCode exactly.
and it's very embarrassing when you're coming across as a jerk when you don't intend to.

1:32 PM
@RichardU yeah, i getcha. i just realised that @Kaz may have been indicating earlier they are also in the same bucket.

Kaz
@doppelgreener Oh yes. Definitely Autistic over here.
But in that High-Functioning-Enough-That-It-Took-20-Years-For-Anyone-To-Notice-Or-Provide-Sp‌ecific-Support kind of way.

I would love a post where all my Points why someone is wrongly useing the voting System and why they should either provide or remove.

Kaz
@RaoulMensink I'm having great difficulty parsing that sentence.

@Kaz me too. @Raoul Could you rephrase?

@Kaz Same for me, I was misdiagnosed, but actually received good treatment for the symptoms. My greatest difficulties are how to de-escalate a situation.
For example, in a conflict, I end up matching blow for blow and have a hard time walking away.
I'm such a mimic that I even do voices.
So, again, that includes bad behavior, only sometimes I don't know it's bad when I'm doing it.

1:39 PM
@RaoulMensink I'm also having trouble with that sentence, sorry

huh, that sounds difficult to deal with

hmm, I mean I am constantly running into People that are "troling" and refer to their own Definition of how to use up and down votes. Where I could refer to multiple meta Posts however that doesnt help since person X does not read.

@RichardU I wonder if there's forms of support services that train autistic individuals to operate in those circumstances.

Kaz
@doppelgreener Rather obvious statement but, if you don't have something similar, you have no idea.

@RichardU unfortunately the chat removes flagged posts, otherwise I could recommend you review the horrific things that I said that lead to suspension...

1:40 PM
@Kaz i am probably making the understatement of the century, yeah

Oli
A change of subject (or dropping the old one) is usually a good start. Continuing to talk about the same thing (even if they are) usually ends up with some sort of circular argument and things bubbling back up again. That seems especially likely if you can't judge the tone of the other person.
I know you've said you feel like you've been duped into being censored by things like that, but just weigh up how important it really is that you respond.
Getting the last word in doesn't mean anything here. It's just a chat room.
That said, a conversation about the difficulties ASD sufferers face is interesting. It just needs to be done delicately where people (everybody, not just you) aren't making baseless assertions about other people and are stepping back if they can see it going south.

Keeping it at the level of discussing the ideas, and not the people you're discussing them with, is also important. If someone starts engaging with me and questioning my character as opposed to discussing the matter we're engaging in (whether it's a contentious topic or not), I'll take that as a sign I should disengage.
I've been learning from a friend that there's some speech patterns that can sound like we're talking about the other person even when we don't mean to! Such as the tendency to use "you" in examples or etc.

Kaz
@doppelgreener (I have no way of knowing, but) I imagine it's like being colour blind (or hell, even just completely blind). There's a whole other world that everyone else can see but you can't. You know it exists, because people keep talking about it, and respond to it, and interact with it in ways you can try and reason about. But that's all you have. Superficial, surface reasoning.

@Kaz @doppelgreener @DoritoStyle For example: I have seen alot of People such as @ChristopherEstep comment on their own question with a sarcasticish tone to refer to the helpfull comment they didnt leave on their question why he recieved a downvote. I would love there to be a post on meta about it where we can just say somethine like: "Thank you for your downvote, Please read this and help me improve my post." When someone doesnt leave context on why he downvoted.
Hope this clarify's things a bit

Don't forget that chat only transports a fraction of the information that people have evolved to communicate with

1:49 PM
@PlasmaHH Every communication method transports a fraction of the Information, as the effort required to do so properly is to much regardless of method.

@Kaz I can sort of imagine that. As someone who's grown up with general anxiety (which includes social anxiety) there's a lot of social dimensions I've been totally ignorant to until I had someone show or tell me something new available in socialising, and then I go "oh, huh, I guess I can do that too" and learn to socialise in that new way, pay attention to new things I never did, etc.

Kaz
Anyway, before I get sucked in, I have to actually get back to work. @RichardU I'll be in touch later (hopefully this evening sometime).

Before that, those dimensions were things I never even considered or thought about because, well, anxiety doesn't exactly encourage you to get out there and master how socialising works. It made me more preoccupied with myself (and my surviving situations) and introverted, when masterful socialising seems to be largely about putting oneself aside and focusing on the other person. I initially only learned the things that helped me get past a situation intact.

@RaoulMensink sure, but in chat it is much worse than e.g. in personal communication, which is what humans have evolved to do. you are losing so much, voice, body language, gestures etc.

@RaoulMensink I think that's less a matter of trolling and pointing to one's own definition, more a matter of everyone has their own interpretation of how voting works -- and some people's versions are poorly matched to the general average understanding.

1:53 PM
@PlasmaHH even then one can only assume what one means by his gestures and Body language's

@PlasmaHH Yeah. Most of communication is body language and tone of voice; the whole "how you say it, not what you say" thing. Even sitting quietly with someone is communication. Chat loses a lot of that, and makes misunderstandings very easy.

@RaoulMensink that assumption is based usually on a lot of training and for the majority of people conveys as much information as the words. And it doesn't even need to be such an unambiguous gesture as flipping the bird...

People take issue with, or get confused about, downvotes with no feedback or comments often enough on RPG Stack Exchange that a moderator decided to open a meta question we could point to:

@doppelgreener I just feel like some People Need to remove their stick and see that they Need to meet someone in the middle. For example I refuse to downvote answers on meta without speaking to the one who post it first. I don't demand everyone to follow this, but would expect one would answer me with respect instead of going in circles.

10
Q: Why is an answer being downvoted without any comments?

SevenSidedDieAn answer has multiple downvotes but nobody has left a comment explaining what's wrong with the answer or why they downvoted. Why hasn't anyone explained their downvote?

1:58 PM
@doppelgreener don't mention misunderstandings, I have an open trench war going on with another department here about how we are supposed to contact them before we implement something when we misunderstood the specifciation

(I decided to answer it myself a couple of days ago, but that's by no means the reason I'm linking this)
@PlasmaHH best of luck, soldier
may your sanity remain unimpinged

@doppelgreener my what?

@PlasmaHH may you remain sane in the trench war, i mean

@doppelgreener already looking for a new job to get my sanity back...

By the way, the moderation at this site is superb. The moderators here are fair, firm, patient and consistent which makes things much easier.
2

2:03 PM
that's one way to do it
@RichardU i agree

getting suspended for mentioning one appearant "bad" word isn't what I would cal patient, but whatever, lets move on...

@PlasmaHH my stroke was caused by a previous job. This company is known for not firing people, but making them miserable so they quit as a way to avoid paying Unemployment insurance.

@doppelgreener Also your post is to specific to RPG I would like one to be General no single site mentioned as example

@PlasmaHH there are exceptions

@RaoulMensink yes, this is definitely an internal RPG.SE matter, but just saying what we did with that situation

2:04 PM
@doppelgreener I think I lost my sanity at their requirement to go through the changelog of the specification to find which multiple installments of a specific requirement is the latest and to ignore the other ones..

@RichardU oh wow. :( sorry to hear that, that's awful.
@PlasmaHH oh dear. oh dear. i have had difficult projects with difficult teams and difficulties with changelogs but that's something else.

@doppelgreener yes, they were trying to push me over the edge. They ended up pushing too far. Also, I had to re-learn all of my filters. I would literally vocalize every last thought I had, without filtering it.
Imagine if every intemperate thought you ever had just popping out of your mouth
that led me right to divorce court

@doppelgreener want to hear more funny things?

@PlasmaHH I am in the middle of re-engineering a project which used MS excel as a database, relying only on formulas and NO VBA code.... I am not in my happy place

@RichardU still on that Project?

2:19 PM
@RichardU as long as the replacement is a sound design, I usually don't care how horrific the old system is, it is always a good feeling to nuke old crap from orbit... if you can... but stuff that people do on excel... * shudder * did you know that m$ has headless excel servers that just "run" excel sheets and computations in that?
and that basically 80% of the "logic" in financial systems is done via excel sheets?

@RaoulMensink yep. and what makes it worse is that most of the formulas are outdated and the REAL process is in the head of the guy who's doing the calculations
@PlasmaHH Oh, I know it, I
I've worked for the financials.
1/3 of the content of a major financial publication named after a street in the NY financial district is put out via MS Excel macros

and the best I ever encountered is a "data feed" that is manually edited excel files manually emailed and then they can't understand why it doesn't work on your side then it works totally fine on their side because they have the files referenced in certain formulas....

sight...

@PlasmaHH that's why I have my avatar set to this. It's a gif of someone baning their head on the keyboard, but it's not animated as an icon.

@RichardU I leave you to guess what my avatar is about then ;)

2:30 PM
LOL

Kaz
@RichardU I've seen Accounting spreadsheets full of numbers like "European Division - Sub division X - Revenue: £X Billion ". 99% formulas. Used to run a billion dollar corporation. Completely normal in the world of finance.

@Kaz Oh, I know. Between myself, my brothers and my friends, we've worked for all the major financial companies. The stories we could tell.

Kaz
I'm tempted to go get a job in spreadsheet auditing. Now there's a stable career.

stable carer, not so stable sanity

@Kaz. I have literally made a career of fixing spreadsheets and databases.
@PlasmaHH there's a reason IT people have a rep for being crazy

2:34 PM
you nkow the nietche quote about staring into the abyss?

@PlasmaHH I think I've been staring into the Time Vortex. It does explain the drumming though. ;)

@RichardU I wonder if it would be a beat of two for humans though...

@PlasmaHH I don't know, but more than once people have questioned if I
am entirely human

@RichardU what was your answer?

@RichardU my wife does that usually at least once per day

2:41 PM
ah, sorry, i had to go afk

Find it funny, when answers without solutions get high votes :L

@RichardU I don't envy what you went through. :(

Interestingly, none of the global banks I have worked for did this, @RichardU. Everything important is on the mainframe. Admittedly that's probably only because Excel can't scale enough :-)

@Mathematics sorry?

@PlasmaHH I just realised what's going on with your avatar. You troll, haha.

2:42 PM
but at least she buys me nice tshirts to wear for work

Buying t-shirts? Nononono - a true geek lives in free t-shirts
:-)

if she buys it for me, its free for me

4
A: How to deal with colleague that starts arguments?

Mathematics I'd like to figure out some ways to not get drawn in, react slower and more thoughtfully, defuse, deflect, instead of reacting fast and being seen as combative. I'd also like some ways to call out and discourage what I see as bad behavior and disrespect. How do I do it? My general advi...

@RoryAlsop free t-shirts ? where are they >?>?

@Mathematics everywhere - conferences, Stack Exchange, you name it

@RoryAlsop oh, not gonna spend on tickets to get 1 LOL

2:45 PM
No - free conferences
Otherwise it wouldn't count as free t-shirt

virtual ? If yes, am on it

Virtual t-shirts...hmmmm.... don't think that would work

@RoryAlsop we often get the request to build Support in System x for importing proper tables. Shows example in Excel. with about 10000 Excel functions we cant use then blames bad Software. Fun times :D

@RoryAlsop haha, I meant virtual conferences :P

I dunno, 2nd life made a good run of virtual clothing for a while

@Mathematics is this refering to me?

@RaoulMensink- good solid career path then. I occasionally do COBOL code review - also never going away, and getting more expensive every year :-)
@DoritoStyle is 2nd life still a thing?

@RaoulMensink you didn't understood my comment, hence I posted you the post I was talking about :)

Eh, the servers are still running I guess; not sure how the community is

@RoryAlsop funny thing is that around here for a lot of things the thinking is "oh, nobody uses it anymore, so demand is low, so lets not pay nearly as much and wonder why nobody wants to work here"

@RoryAlsop after minecraft came into main stream I guess not

I went one there once a couple of years ago out of curiosity... interesting place

@doppelgreener there was a time when on SE the avatars would not load correctly (including mine), and I was tempted to ask a question on meta and then giggle about people not realitzing that they fixed it..

@DoritoStyle @RoryAlsop the only 2nd life I know of is often used for 18+ meetings

but then again they were probably using IE anyways

@Mathematics I do see reasonable answers though.

phew, for a second, I panicked because my reporting model's figures for this year's revenues were half of the totals for the raw data. Then I remembered that the raw data covers 2 years ^^

2:57 PM
an Excel issue? ^
:-)

Kaz
@RoryAlsop Excel did exactly what I told it to do. I just didn't appreciate what, exactly, I was telling it to do ^^

Usually I get in trouble here doing exactly what I was told to do...

Oh yeah, don't do that. Do the right thing :-)

yeah, that would also save writing specifications at all

@RaoulMensink rebuild it, as it was useless in it's present form.

our ticket system has a funny feature of making a ticket invisible in your listings until a specific date... I have a few gems in there, among it being a ticket that asks for employing measure to make sure that a certain process will never have bugs again

@PlasmaHH every solution breeds at least 3 new problems

Kaz
Just to interject some light-heartedness into the room:

This reminds me of a paper I read a while ago of the process of "uncooking" an egg (making the proteins fold back to their liquid form again)
basically you have to shake them really really hard while dissolved in the right medium

@Kaz Any sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology

Q: How can I prevent pee from flying off-target?

Aman ThakkarMost men know that sometimes a stream of pee can go in some unwanted direction, which can cause problems like dirty clothes or a dirty floor. Is there a way to prevent this from happening, or maybe a precaution to take?

4:28 PM
Wow
There's a part of me that is tempted to go over there and object on gender grounds saying, "Not all men have penii* and just because you have one doesn't mean you're a man!" *penii being the new plural :)
but I won't.
And I'm really not that tempted. But wow though.

@ChristopherEstep A man having penii (plural) would be quite rare though.

@MaskedMan don't judge me!

Wow, I just lost 500 points (and counting) due to rep cap. It wasn't even a good answer to begin with. So I am undecided if HNQ is a good or a bad thing.

can't lose what you didn't have. :) Happens to most of us.

I was at work when I read the question, so I thought let me write something quickly and improve it later in the evening from home. By the time I left work, I had already hit the rep cap.

@MaskedMan that's happened to me a few times

6:12 PM
I will wait until the question goes off the HNQ, and then improve my answer for some rep-whoring.
