could have effortlessly achieved that with mirc scripting

Yes, I was quite good at mirc scripting
I even wrote exploits in mIRC :(

me too, I wrote a media player that loaded winamp 2.x skins

so fun, wasn't it?
I loved the sockopen functionality

@kalina aw man winamp was the shit

I loved WinAmp

4:01 PM
it really whipped the @LucasKauffman's ass

with mIRC, I wrote another irc client inside of it using sockets, game strategy generators, a game engine, a web browser
lots of exploits
a network scanning tool like nmap
had my own little command center. oh, to be a kid again

@MarkBuffalo SE is a big thing for companies and usually gets good google results. I once asked about ZeroDB and got an answer from the creators

@SEJPM Yep, that's pretty cool

@ThomasPornin Do you really feel strongly about hash functions not being called encryption? I only ask because it seems the term "one-way encryption" is quite prevalent in the academic literature as what appears to be a synonym (in at least many cases) for cryptographic hash functions. (CC: @CodesInChaos @SEJPM)

4:11 PM
@Xander I am ready to bore a hole with a rusty screwdriver in the skull of anybody who describes hashing as "encryption".
8

@kalina Since you're bored, please feel free to offer your answer to my question as well.

@Xander I'm no pornin, but it's enough to confuse some people... I was confused by it before, as hashes can be defined as "encryption." It's one-way, though... so you aren't reliably able to get the information back, you can only validate that the hash matches the message. With encryption, you get the idea that you can decrypt it with the key.

@Xander I thought the term was "one way compression function" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-way_compression_function

@ThomasPornin LOL, ok then.

@Xander I know nothing about the subject of which your question is asked

4:13 PM
@kalina Don't let that stop you. You can google as well as the rest of the room.

@Xander The notion of "one-way encryption" is actually quite different from hashing.

@Xander no I don' tknow how to computer
wat is link

@diagprov one way compresison function aren't the same thing as hashes
hashes usually use them though
@Xander I have to agree with @ThomasPornin here

@ThomasPornin Ah, ok. It seemed that was at least what some of the references I was seeing were referring to, but either I (or they) may be incorrect.

@SEJPM Yes, I know.

4:15 PM
y u even ned meh wen @ThomasPornin is here to anser 4 u

@ThomasPornin So what is the precise definition of a one-way encryption function?

@Xander a function that only encrypts one way

@kalina = public key encryption

@kalina Thank you for your insight.

well I try

4:16 PM
@Xander throwing away the key? :)

u axe me 4 my help n i did

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

yessssssssssss

wikipedia redirectes me to "hashing" upon entering "one way encryption"

4:17 PM
what would happen if you encrypted your private key with your public key

In simpler words, it is like a weakened version of asymmetric encryption.

@kalina nothing

@kalina CPU overclocks

@SEJPM exactly
but is that actually true

That is, it is asymmetric encryption in which you do not mind if the attacker can recover parts of that which is encrypted.

4:17 PM
surely you'd lose your private key in an encrypted mass you could not decrypt
or do I not know computer at all

@ThomasPornin is that related to those hard core predicates and all that stuff?

well it wouldn't have mass since it's stored electronically
or magnetically
or ethereally

@SEJPM Somehow.

@kalina encrypting your private key doesn't mjean deleting all copies of it

yes but what if you did
nevermind, I'm too bored to continue
this isn't even fun
let's do something fun

4:19 PM
@ThomasPornin Ah, thanks!

bouncy bouncy bouncy bouncy fun fun fun fun fuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnn!
but the most wonderful thing about tigger is he's not currently in the userlist

@ThomasPornin I hope you have enough rusty screwdrivers around!

@Gilles I can dual-wield.

> crypt() is the password encryption function

4:21 PM
Linux man page, 2014

so hashing is not encryption?

@kalina no

I thought that they were entirely identical

you can reverse encryption but not hashing

@kalina Do you need some chores to do?

4:21 PM
@SEJPM This is the tldr

I'll tell you what else can't be reversed

@Xander chores... by definition... no thanks

@Simon's w.... erm, time

@Simon's time?

foreign mods can't be reversed either
you try telling them to back off

4:26 PM
Hi, how do I become a security expert?

I am familiar with couple of programming languages including low level ones i.e. Assembly. I don't wish to try a softwares in Kali. I wish to built those tools like Air-crack NG, etc. I feel like a script kiddie using Kali tools. Well I don't know completely know how to achieve that.

All I know is you need to know Python. Read books like, "Black Hat Python: Python Programming for Hackers and Pentesters" etc

There are few courses on websites like Udacity: Networking which also uses Python language.

did you pre-type that

yes
I took some type to think what i exactly wanted to ask

You don't need python to write hacks/exploits
Those can be written in pretty much any language
nearly.

including French

but yeah, python is pretty versatile. and if so many are using it, why not learn it yourself?

4:29 PM
But then why do every security expert suggest to learn Python?

because they are fools
It's just a lot easier to write exploits in python

the best tip for penetration testing is to know when to pull out in order to leave no evidence

there are a lot of tutorials and pre-built libraries to hold your hand

Yaa that I know Python is very english alike. I already know Python
I am a computer science student right now. Where should be I looking for jobs? Do companies hire noobs?

@AbhimanyuAryan Every security expert does not suggest to learn Python. @RоryMcCune, for instance, suggests to learn Ruby. That said, by all means, learn Python. It's a fine language for the task, and there are a lot of tools written in it.

4:32 PM
I also Know Ruby. I have developed some Rails applications in past

any language you can use to get the job done is fine...
go ahead and learn python. why not? you got a lot of time ahead of you as a student

@AbhimanyuAryan Yes. These are called "entry-level positions" It also might be helpful to start looking for internships while you are still in school. These can often lead to full time employment offers after you graduate.

@Xander agreed

or give up your life of computing and become a manatee

I actually got a full time offer instead of an internship. kinda jumped on it ;x
wouldn't recommend that, though

4:34 PM
Ok. I'll look for Internships

my first job I worked full time while still at uni....it was a very hard 6 months

There's a thing called Cybrary

now i am still here and in a good position

Should I learn from it?

@silverpenguin on top?

4:35 PM
Is it good?

@AbhimanyuAryan There are a million different things to do in security
we can't possibly advise you in everything

@kalina no im in the middle.. lol

it's possible to point you in the right direction, but from there, every decision has to be yours to make

I can't tell you exactly what I want. I am fascinated by the word "Hacking"
Point me to right direction. Right now I have no idea.

@AbhimanyuAryan As am I. I recommend a butcher's cleaver, or a very sharp sword.

4:36 PM
@AbhimanyuAryan then train your self to become crest certified. if you can get that certification people will love you.

Ok. So I need to get crest certificate?

@its one of the options
its a good fondation to start on.. i am a beginner like your self and this is what i was advised

@AbhimanyuAryan Do you want to be a black hat, or white hat hacker? Or... gray?

Do I need to prepare on my own for Crest certificate? Is it sort of exam?
I wish to be on Govt's side. So, I think that's the white one

@AbhimanyuAryan its an exam but you need to prepare alot! have a google!

4:39 PM
@AbhimanyuAryan nope, that's still black

Lol Ok then I want to be a black hat hacker. Working for powerful organisations

@MarkBuffalo stop confusing the guy jeezus

@AbhimanyuAryan There you go. Let the hate flooooooow through you

@AbhimanyuAryan the deal with "hats" is your motivation. do you want to use your knowledge for good or evil
I'd personally recommend good, since you can get paid to break things and people will thank you for it instead of going to jail

@Ohnana Well, breaking things to attack others is legal in the sense of working for the government... this is still black hattery. And it's a good kind of black hat.

4:41 PM
@Ohnana I don't know Ohnana. Before thinking of what to use my powers for: Evil or Good. I need to get those powers. Later I'll decide. Like Snowden

A white hat is a complete pansy... a goody-two-shoes who won't attack anyone, regardless of who they work for. I like white hats

@Ohnana HE DOESN'T WANT TO WEAR A HAT HE'S A CS MAJOR WHO WANTS TO LEARN HACKING AND INFORMATION SECURITY SO HE CAN GET A JOB.

@AbhimanyuAryan a strong sense of ethics should be cultivated at all steps in your career

@AbhimanyuAryan Now no government will hire you for wanting to become like Snowden. lol

Taking a step towards the dark side can ruin that career forever! So be very careful

4:42 PM
@Xander dear lord press the caps lock button

@MarkBuffalo May be I won't tell them initially. I can fake it :D

@Ohnana No, I sha'n't.

^^ that's a great blog post that has some decent information

@RoryAlsop Does 'attacking back' count as a step towards the dark side? Like for example, an attacker is in your network... you want to get them and figure out what they're doing to you, etc
so you can learn about it much quicker

@MarkBuffalo I haven't yet got to a conclusion. Where should I begin.

4:44 PM
Bad idea, generally...

@Ohnana is that begineers guide?

@AbhimanyuAryan yes
it covers starting from a university education, or from nothing

@RoryAlsop To be fair, most of @MarkBuffalo's ideas are bad.
;-)

it also talks about some skillsets to develop and ways to make yourself stand out.

4:45 PM
@Ohnana Thanks :)

I am reading it

@Xander Name a few

@MarkBuffalo just needs to cuddle the SE's friendly manatee cough

I will warn you, this involves working independently... this is something i struggle with :P

@Ohnana oh god tell me about it D: trying to study in the spare time is what is holding me back

@silverpenguin yeah really
there's just so many things to do, not enough spare ohnanas to cover it all

4:46 PM
@MarkBuffalo I wasn't serious.

i need to clone my clones D:

@Ohnana I just give up and play video games and hope one day i will get a job that will pay me to study

@Xander You hurt my internet feelings. The internet hurt is strong

@silverpenguin same ;-;
actually, no. that's not true
i try to balance. but the human body's mandatory maintenance periods kill me

I find the idea of hacking for money to be abhorrent. I mean, it's one thing when you're doing it as a white hattist, there's nothing wrong with that. But being paid to do bad things to others? My conscience wouldn't allow it, unless those "others" were really, really bad people.

4:49 PM
@MarkBuffalo conscience? is that the leprechaun that tells me to burn things?

@MarkBuffalo forreal tho.

@Ohnana I've had dozens of people ask me to hack something for them. "Please spy on my girlfriend/wife," "please delete my crimes from the internet so people will do business with me," etc. It always stresses me out

@MarkBuffalo no is a complete sentence
i've had people ask me to do the same

yep
It's always no

i tell them that my asking price is all the tea in china

4:50 PM
In one case, I pretended to agree so I could give info to the FBI

@MarkBuffalo whats wrong with the second one? sounds like he wants to go straight, sounds like a second chance kinda thing

because it was so fugged up
@silverpenguin Okay, let's get this straight. He wants to go straight by asking someone to commit felonies that could destroy someone else's career? And his crimes involved children...

@Ohnana the article has included "System Administration". Does that include learning Bash?

I know Linux, OSX, little bit of Windows but no experience with Bash. Other configuring. Dotfiles

in which case let him burn

burn?
what?
did I accidentally set fire to somebody?

4:52 PM
not with that cold heart you didnt
</3

pls my heart is permanently just below combustion temperature

@AbhimanyuAryan system administration is more of babysitting a server or collection of resources to make sure it doesn't explode. bash is merely one tool in that toolset
bash is programming for sysadmins i guess :P

questionable tacos will do that to you @kalina

@silverpenguin It gets like 1000000x worse because of association, and the fact that he said he didn't regret what he did in the past... he just regretted getting caught. like wtf?

@silverpenguin I don't eat taco

4:53 PM
Ok

@MarkBuffalo yea thats a big nope then! i would have reported him for asking such a thing :< shudders

@silverpenguin Politically-connected. Things got a bit rough

@MarkBuffalo you do talk to some bad people

Not anymore d:

like that guy you're sourcing the anthrax off for the #opdeathofapresident

4:55 PM
pls don't joke about killing obama

thanks ohnana

1. we'd have president biden ; 2. people would freak the fuck out

@Ohnana just blame it on the racist south

who else is voting trump ?

@Ohnana agreed

4:55 PM
like they did with jfk
OSWALD IS A RUSSIAN SLEEPER SPY ZOMG

@kalina yeah, and the country would have a second set of race riots

@Ohnana I don't like Obama, dislike most of his policies, etc. But he's our president, and the people have spoken.
if I want him out, I either wait, or vote for someone else.
@kalina uhhhh

@kalina ಠ_ಠ

White police officers are MURDERED on an almost daily basis

@MarkBuffalo no they aren't.

4:57 PM
this conversation is turning political

It's not a race issue... maybe for a few nutjobs here and there
it's a crime issue. people take it upon themselves to hurt others because of <insert stupid reason here>

@MarkBuffalo i agree with you... i dont get why people think when a person who isnt white dies it was racist ...

hm... growing up, my parents always taught me never to point a gun at a cop, even if it's fake. because I'd get shot
I'm sorry their parents didn't teach them not to point a toy gun at the police officers

:28018317 tbh, toy guns in the USA look realistic except for a small orange cap that is easily broken off
which is fucked up and needs to stop

@Ohnana THIS. and you can PAINT IT BLACK

4:59 PM
guns are not toys, they do not belong in the hands of children, and they should not be involved in play

and what's to stop criminals from painting the barrel of their gun orange for fun?

and with that, i'm going to go sit on the review queue and trawl for linux question

I am going to go and chill out while consuming copious quantities of thc cbn cbd etc

cbn? cbd?

goo? gle!

5:00 PM
@kalina You're going to smoke pot and watch the Christian Broadcasting Network? I mean, whatever floats your faith.

@MarkBuffalo cbd is the second chemical in weed that gives the pain and mental relief
more of a physical high than the mental thc high

and cbn? Christian Broadcasting Network?
crickets
lunch

i have no idea on that one xD oh its lunch time in the murica now?
that puts you on the east cost >_>

I am indeed an easterner

i only went to the USA once and that was to D.C
stayed in george town

5:05 PM
are you a spook?
Everyone in DC is a spook!

@silverpenguin Nice area. Terrible traffic.

@Xander doesn't every major city have terrible traffic?
It's bumper-to-bumper here most of the time

@MarkBuffalo Yes, but to varying degrees. Some are better than others. Atlanta, for instance is the worst. No kiddlng, the very worst.

@Xander How so?
Detroit's traffic is next-level bad
Vegas had really bad traffic too during rush hour

@Xander i walked everywhere! i hate public transport so i had little issue with the traffic

5:16 PM
walking everywhere is a really good way to "discover" a city

@MarkBuffalo For instance, the DOT once changed to traffic lights on a street off of which a customer of mine is located. After that, in normal afternoon rush hour traffic, it took me 45 minutes to go a half a mile.

you find all the cool restaurants, learn about so many things
@Xander because of DOT, right?

@silverpenguin Ah, nice. DC's public transportation is quite good as well.

@MarkBuffalo I walked from george town to the monuments all around the monuments took some pictures of a squirrel that i liked and then walked back

@Xander That's good to hear. Public transportation was excellent in every city I visited in China. Nobody really needed a car

5:17 PM
@MarkBuffalo Yes. Atlanta, across the board, has the stupidest light timings I've ever seen. That's what makes traffic there so bad.

@Xander I was in Atlanta before, never had trouble with the traffic compared to some places
here in Detroit, though... the traffic is just... it's AIDS.
Someone dies on the freeway every day

if you guys could put ANYTHING in one session variable...what would it be... but only you will ever see this session variable?

bumper-to-bumper traffic for a while because the authorities have to clean up and redirect traffic

from a pen test perspective

@MarkBuffalo I've driven a lot of places with legendary traffic, and Atlanta is the worst of them all. I have not driven in Detroit though, so I can't comment on that.

5:22 PM
welp. the house I wanted sold a day after getting the down payment ready
lol

who is going down for payment?
this my turf

@MarkBuffalo :-(

5:41 PM
"please confirm your identity to change your phone number on this account. options: use old phone number that you don't have anymore"
k
thank you, 2FA

@MarkBuffalo THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) CBD (cannabidiol) CBN (cannabinol)

@kalina ah

also CBC CBL THCV etc

updates arrest profile

@MarkBuffalo oooh rekt by protocol oversight

6:02 PM
Today is turning out to be a shitty day in general
but good thing it's friday

Morning everyone
Morning everyone

@HenryWHHack Canonical good afternoon.

@HenryWHHack Ubuntu to the noon's after.

6:27 PM
i leave the room for 20 mins and everyone leaves ... clearly i am the glue holding this room together

I didn't leave.

@silverpenguin WHY YOU NO CAPS ?

im dyslexic the word caplocks offends me
capslock*

UPPERCASE IS PURITY.

you are just a bear what would you know about purity I am a manatee I am god

6:30 PM
UPPERCASE USES THE SMALLEST BYTES, SO IT SAVES COMPUTER SPACE. THAT MAKES IT THE BEST.

im not sure that is true
it would make little difference
hex ect ect
i shall not conform

YOU CAN SEE THIS FASTER BECAUSE IT IS USING SMALLER BYTES TO GET THROUGH THE INTERNET TUBES BEFORE THE FAT LETTERS.

@Xander uppercase has a zero bit where lowercase has a one bit. zero takes more space than one (a big circle as opposed to a simple line). so uppercase actually uses more space. be green, use lowercase!

no im just reading caps in my shouting head voice
stop it its all so agressive

@Xander !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
^ this was even faster :P

6:33 PM
UPPERↃASE HAS MORE LETTERS.

Shouldn't you be hibernating anyway tommy?
You made a lot of appearances this week.

we're seriously risking getting on the ShitSESays list

Is that backwards C unicode?
The things you can find in unicode lists.

@Simon It is one of the three extra letters invented and made official by emperor Claudius in the 1st century.

@ThomasPornin He's an original man.

6:36 PM
When he was young, he got mocked for his ambition to add extra letters. Then, because he hid behind a curtain at a crucial moment, he was made Emperor and made the extra letters official.

"to had" pls pornu

@ThomasPornin this also sounds like bullshit. but knowing you, it's probably true

And yeah, seriously?

The Claudian letters were developed by, and named after, the Roman Emperor Claudius (reigned 41–54). He introduced three new letters to the Latin alphabet: Ↄ or ↃϹ/X (antisigma) to replace BS and PS, much as X stood in for CS and GS. The shape of this letter is disputed, however, since no inscription bearing it has been found. Franz Bücheler identified it with the variant Roman numeral Ↄ, but 20th century philologists, working from copies of Priscian's books, believe it to instead resemble two linked Cs (Ↄ+Ϲ), which was a preexisting variant of Greek sigma, and easily mistaken for X by later writers...

Is that coming out of your banana?

6:37 PM
@ThomasPornin GODDAMNIT

@Ohnana it has to be an actual BS to get on the ShitSESays list?

@TildalWave we're already on the SSES list

I mean, "shit" doesn't necessarily imply "bullshit"

"... but their use was abandoned after his death."
get rekt

As for the curtain, this has been reported by Suetonius. It happened when the pretorian guard rebelled against Caligula and assassinated him.

6:39 PM
ɈὺƼҭ Ḉᴼӎԑ ḪεЯѮ

I expect pornu to be plugged on some sort of machine that feeds his brain with facts that he can brag about knowing.

@Simon It is called the Internet. They don't have the Internet in Montréal ?

It's called the internet
LOL

ffs pornu don't make me drive to QC city to kick yo ass.

@Simon Knowing him, he already downloaded Kung Fu into his brain

> It all makes sense now; Gay marriage and marijuana being legalized on the same day... Leviticus 20:13 : “If a man lays with another man he should be stoned.” It seems we have just been interpreting it wrong all these years…

@TildalWave That's the most clever thing he has ever said and yet he got ONE star.

that was in 2012, site had like 4 members then

@Simon because he copy and pasted it from reddit :(((((((

@TildalWave I wasn't even born in 2012.

ACUNETIX IS A PIECE OF SHIT
2

6:58 PM
what took you so long to realize that?

I USED IT
IT HAS CRASHED THREE FUCKING TIMES TRYING TO SPIDER

DO YOU EVEN SPIDER BRO

I WANT TO TEST ONE GODDAMN WEBSITE AND IT CAN'T EVEN HANDLE THAT

@Ohnana you are haxoring by spidering a website?

AT THIS RATE, I COULD USE MY DICK TO SCAN A SITE AND IT WOULD BE BETTER THAN ACUNETIX
