In all seriousness, I would simply call it "Phi".
Now that you're called @HelkaHomba, I'm uncomfortable referring to you by your initials...
@MartinBüttner ._.
isn't helka homba's calvin's youtube name?
6:02 PM
anybody else want to join the name change bandwagon?
having trouble coming up with a good name...
I'm retaining my name.
@NathanMerrill How about Merrill?
Conor O'Shaugnessy
@AlexA. ಠ_ಠ
6:05 PM
@NathanMerrill Natty Ice
hmm, why isn't it updating to chat?
there we go
Well that's not confusing
Q: Output the Military Order

Washington GuedesIn almost every row nowadays, the people tends to order themselves as militaries would do. Challenge Suppose 4 people where: person 1 has priority against person 2, 3 and 4, person 2 has priority against person 3 and 4, person 3 has priority against person 4, person 4 has the lowest priority....

@First you are @Nathan?
6:15 PM
@First why though
@MartinBüttner why does anybody change names?
I guess because they don't like their current name?
BC @AquaTart likes poptarts.
and anagrams.
I liked yours ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
6:23 PM
eh, I may change it back (or again)
I liked quartata
I'm not too attached to this one
also, I tried to make my image transparent
but SE simply put a white background :(
I think legionmammal did that.
@First You can use Gravatar to have transparent backgrounds.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ same.
@AlexA. cool, I might do that.
6:27 PM
I love your avatar riker :D
@ETH I think I have proved NTFJ's turing completeness by adding another command! :D
My cat + winterbash 2015 hat
I'm going to start brainstorming for a new language:

This room is for the development of Phi's new (to be named) pr...
@MartinBüttner do you have an opinion on my meta post about easy and hard challenges?
Welcome back, @NathanMerrill.
thanks :)
6:42 PM
hm, not yet. I think for KotHs it's not really necessary if the KotH is designed such that you can participate while only paying attention to a subset of the rules (e.g. if you provide 5 RPG-style "classes" for variety and complexity but whoever participates really only needs to know one of them). for code challenges, it's a more difficult question... I wouldn't mix two challenges in one post.
whether they're duplicates or not depends on how much of a difference the harder version actually makes.
remember that series of posts with the envelopes?
that's a good case of posting separate closely related challenges that gradually get more difficult.
Q: When can challenges be reused?

RikerWI have noticed that some new sandbox posts are being shutdown as duplicates of other much older posts. There is nothing wrong with that. But I think there should be a time limit after which challenges can be reused. Specifically because of new langauges that allow for shorter solutions, an...

ah I do
unfortunately, the more difficult KoTH has role changes
I don't really have a sufficiently well-formed opinion in general to write an answer at the moment though
which means that the submission should be able to handle multiple roles (instead of the simpler one-role submission)
The difference between my code-challenge and the envelopes challenge is that neither of them were competitive in the other envelope challenge
submissions on the first challenge would do terrible on the second challenge
and submissions on the second challenge simply wouldn't work on the first
@NathanMerrill for KotHs I'd be more worried whether there would be sufficient interest in the second part
6:49 PM
true. And despite there being a winning strategy for my Mafia KoTH, that doesn't mean that the bots are going to act rationally
This mafia challenge feels more and more like a rep-gaining challenge, and less and less interesting
I like it.
Aaand you stuck with @Nathan. :P
yeah I did
Crap, I missed the discussion here =P
Put up an answer, in any case ^^
@Roujo I like it
I agree that on the same post isn't a good idea. (although I was never going to allow a single answer for both challenges)
What about @EnthralMarlin @NathanMerrill?
6:57 PM
no, I don't like seeing other names when people ping me
it throws me for a loop
if I were to change it, it'd be usernames on other sites: Tee, thenameipicked
but meh, not worth the work, and not fair to Dennis who already changed my name back
I asked him to. You can't do a name change more than once every 30 days
Oh, okay.
Sorry dennis.
7:01 PM
@Downgoat "Hi, you must be looking at your console wondering what the heck this message means. It means you should be happy that this message is being logged otherwise something very wrong happened"
Nice =P
But, something bad did happen. :P
The websocket falied.
That it did
However, that only happened afterward, so it's all good
I won't blame the code for not being prescient
That sounds like trouble in the long run
Hello all.
A: Golf you a quine for great good!

Martin BüttnerLabyrinth, 124 110 53 bytes Thanks to Sp3000 for golfing off 9 bytes, which allowed me to golf off another 7. 44660535853919556129637653276602333! 1 :_98 /8 % @9_. Try it online! @MartinBüttner I'm bagel?
@Zgarb こんにちは!元気?
translate: こんにちは!元気
@Dennis That's not a bagel, silly. Where's the hole?
@MartinBüttner I'm bread?
Even if you were a moderator, that syntax is incorrect.
7:06 PM
@AlexA. On the bottom?
@AlexA. それは仕事で忙しいです。
@AlexA. There's more than one kind of bagel...
@Zgarb ああ、そうか
@RikerW its a bun
@Dennis o_O
7:08 PM
@Dennis with more than one kind of hole?
@AlexA. 卒業は良好でした。
Are there genus-2 bagels?
@AlexA. Did you know that a bagel is actually a donut shaped like a bagel?
7:09 PM
@Lynn Yes.
@Lynn Pretty much that made out of bread or donuty goodness.
@Lynn i think they are specifically called swomthing else
doughnuts for life
@Zgarb はい!私のために投票!
7:10 PM
I was hoping someone would get the obscure reference.
guess not
challenge: find the shortest string that makes marky say "_UNK". Record: Ugh, 3 bytes.
7:11 PM
just do an unprintable
Well, it would be good to know if there is a character limit as to what Marky accepts.
@Geobits's bot.
@Lynn It's a chatterbot using Google's new fancy schmancy Tensorflow.
@AlexA. Looks like today was a good day to install my "hover to see what this means" extension ^^
7:14 PM
It's running in Beep Boop Maggot right now if you want to try it.
@Roujo Oooh, that sounds fancy. What browser is that for?
@AlexA. Chrome. Linky.
@Roujo Boo Chrome.
The cool part is that it doesn't give you the romanized version, just the kanas
So it helps in learning the kanjis and kanas without letting you take the shortcut of just reading the translated text =P
7:16 PM
I win.
_N, 2 bytes
Useful because I keep running into Japanese without really knowing much Japanese.
@Lynn Exactly. You already had it? =D
I win more.
7:17 PM
@Lynn Why do your Japanese characters look so pixely?
@Optimizer _, 1 byte. :P
@RikerW that's not underscore, right?
I have no idea :<
@Optimizer Nope, it is a underscore.
you just copied mine and golfed it.. should have suggested edit
7:19 PM
Nope, I didn't get it from yours though.
“You clearly stole my two-byte solution!” is funny.
hello. i like the updates to the chat room skin!
What is the lowest amount of bits you can get copyrighted?
Challenge on Law.SE
7:22 PM
it seems like an entirely different place
Jeez, the upvotes and answers on the lipogram question just keep rolling in...
for one...since I was last here I got two enlightened badges...one for ppcg and one for ppcg meta....within the space of two days...and they are my first enlightened badges ever
wow, this new theme actually fits nice with PPCG theme
(for the chat)
The userscript?
nope. I dont have any addon for that.
7:24 PM
What it is then>
@Optimizer inorite?
Huh, what, new skin?
I just hard refreshed after quintopia mentioned it and got it
Looks the same to me, even with the script disabled.
7:25 PM
I don't see anything new either
better hard refresh.. delete cache.
@Lynn blame caching
BRB buying a new computer
Hardest refresh.
Just hard-refreshed twice and it's still the same. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Brb, recreating a universe from scratch.
Hardester refresh.
7:27 PM
BRB trashing SE and forcing them to fix ti.
Cache killer isn't helping.
probably its being rolled out geo based cloudfronts
Cleared my cache and turned on cache killer.
Not helping
i love that Downgoat's response to graduation is a gif of tennessee fainting goats
@Optimizer i thought it was part of the userscript
in Beep Boop Maggot, 21 secs ago, by Marky Markov
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I'm not sure if I can't find any of the _UNK of the _UNK.
@quintopia oh god, who bails out on his own joke/prank?
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ double negatives and double _UNKs .. yum.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Nice. So I guess the next goal is the highest byte/_UNK ratio =P
is full of guesses
@Roujo lowest
@Roujo That or transliterating _UNK into Ook.
@Optimizer ...yes. Dammit. =P
7:36 PM
@Optimizer i didn't. i didn't even realize you were pranking. sorry.
@Dennis Where did you run my fish code? Because it doesn't seem to give a null byte in the online interpreter (and if I read the code, it shouldn't print one)
Which one?
@Dennis siunce you're being pinged anyway, is there any chance of adding Aubergine/Purple/UberGenes to TIO?
@ThijsterHaar With the online interpreter you linked to. Execute document.getElementsByTagName('pre')[0].textContent.charCodeAt(37) in the console.
@quintopia Link, please.
Boston Dynamics' new robot is awesome.
Could someone take a look at this and review the proof of TC?
@mınxomaτ It is. :O Reminds me of Sumotori dreams though.
Context. It's ATLAS Mark II.
@quintopia Looks easy enough. The Python interpreter for all three, yes?
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ It's not enough to have a conditional jump and arbitrary memory addressing. This is why TC proofs are pretty much always reductions.
7:52 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ That's not really a proof, more like an initial idea of one.
0 pings then 3 ._.
@Dennis I think those interpreters just crash on EOF though. Might want to check that. If so, I'll add error handling
@Zgarb Yeah, sorry.
@quintopia Reductions to what?
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ some other known TC language. Usually a TM, a minsky machine, or bitwise cyclic tag.
BF is also fairly popular
7:54 PM
@quintopia What would you suggest?
basically, if you can write an interpreter for a TC language in your language, your language is TC
How about a conversion scheme?
that's fine too
@quintopia TIO hides STDERR by default, so that wouldn't be a problem.
@Dennis it's a problem if they won't correctly take input. I never had a problem with them, but it's worth checking.
7:56 PM
I have to ask though: What's with the base64-encoded zip file?
it's a fork bomb
@Dennis well the goal was to make the interpreter as small as possible. you can unzip it if it bothers you :P
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I think maybe etre would be an easy one for you to reduce here
@quintopia BF will be a tough one to beat
That might just be me, but I'd never run a exec("blob".decode('base64').decode('zip')) I just found on the internet...
