Q: Why was 6 afraid of 7?

geokavelWhy was 6 afraid of 7? Because 7 8 9! Given a string apply the following transformations: If there is a 6 next to a 7 remove the 6 (6 is afraid of 7) If the sequence "789" appears remove the 8 and the 9 (7 ate 9) (If I'm not mistaken it doesn't matter what order you do the transformations in...

so did anything happen with the factions with phi?
I rate my hat 5/7

I has 2 hats now :)

Three hats! :D
And the dragon likes wearing headphones

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Well I'm sad to learn that there are now 5 people with Onion Knight hats
But I'm still proud of my secret hat

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Well "three" has an e in it so your number is sinful :P

6:22 PM
@EEEEEEridan D:
wait do you and @Ampora have the same avatar? o.O

Yes we do

Eridan is a sock of Ampora
Ampora used to be Eridan
Confused yet

Also what the heck my hat is off-center

I was confused from the moment I saw a glider wearing an onion

6:23 PM
@Ampora told me to make an account called EEEEEEridan so I did

But you are Ampora.

He told himself :P

I'm sitting right next to him lol

Brothers, or something?

Friends.

6:25 PM
Ah. Close enough ^_^

I wonder if it would be harder to completely avoid the letter e or have to use it in every word

I think so as well
Eye agree*

I'll try that from now on

Well that message didn't contain a single e so you're off to a bad start ;)

6:27 PM
Hehe, same-sounding letter-combinations are better
Hyphens constitute the whole English?

"hey wolfram alpha, is my answer mathematically equivalent to the answer in the book?"
"thanks wolfram alpha"

oh hi

I think the hat-count-hat looks nicer than all other available hats.

True^
e be the sole existent letter, see, whatever messages come taken here

6:30 PM
in case you're wondering how i managed to get a result of (3 False)/2, i accidentally typed (3/2)(ln(19/3) = (3ln(19)/2) - (3ln(3)/2). playing "spot the missing close-paren" tells you that there should be one right before the =. it tried to correct by putting one all the way at the end of my input, so it got (3/2)(a false statement)
totally my bad, but funny

huh.

Using WolframAlpha usually ends up with me getting progressively more and more frustrated at its attempts to be "smart" until I just end up inputting Mathematica expressions into it, thereby defeating the purpose of using WolframAlpha

aaaa i forgot to mute SE chat on this computer
startles me every time

usually i don't have too much trouble with wolfram alpha understanding me, but i do wish unmatched parens were a syntax error

6:32 PM
Are ye disturbed regarding the beeping?

this isn't PHP, we can throw errors
also for me the "purpose of using wolfram alpha" is "i don't own mathematica"

Solely employing e Eesn't easy. e_e

i'm not going to tell you how to live your life, have fun however you choose, but
imo purposely misspelling words to get around self-imposed restrictions feels like it's against the spirit of the restrictions in the first place

True enough.

proudly wears my shiny Archimedes hat

6:37 PM
However, the e rule constitutes inflection
:26165598e Nice!

if i wanted to be a jerk about it, i'd point out that Doorknob冰 doesn't have an e in it
i won't do that though

I don't get it.
I don't get anything.

instead i'll point out that ":26165598" doesn't have an e in it

What is with the 'e's?

6:39 PM
changes name to Deerknob
2

i forget who, but there's someone who isn't using e in chat for the rest of the year
i guess connor is making up for them

I don't get it

misspelled name!

6:40 PM
g_e_t it

Ampora (ex-Eridan)

get it
dangit markdown

I still don't get it.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ my bad
Cᴏɴɴᴏʀ
;)

6:40 PM
Myself does use es

oh.
But you did.

@undergroundmonorail e_e hehe

Mys e lf

conor uses e in every word, ampora uses no e at all

6:42 PM
I see.
*me sees

speaking of e

Myself speaks en langues different sometimes

can someone remind me how derivatives of e work

Myself be unable to, regarding the restriction

6:43 PM
(du/dx)e^(u) is its own derivate, yes?

@undergroundmonorail no wait this is wrong

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ You could just use the "royal we"

i'm trying to find the integral of 15x^2e^(5x^3+9))
i define u as 5x^3+9
(u')e^(u)

6:48 PM
@undergroundmonorail Uh. it's e^(5x^3+9)

@TimmyD We ponder the clever attribute!

@undergroundmonorail This would be correct.

@FlagAsSpam yeah you got there like two steps ahead of me :P ty

If you integrate the coefficient of e^u, you can find it easier. ;D

Hi guys, please give that guy a thumbs up. He answered in more detail that I could ever hope for!

6:49 PM
@undergroundmonorail et @anOKsquirrel are the deux people we beep saddened face

done
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ huh? ;-;

Any of you guys ever tried to drill down to the div that contains a specific file in Google Drive?

because i have u inside and u' outside i can ignore the u' and find the derivative of the function around u (which is, of course, (d/dx) e^x = e^x) and sub u back in

@El'endiaStarman What are you up to ಠ_ಠ

6:50 PM
@flawr that's some really mathy math right there

@FlagAsSpam i know all these words but i don't know what they mean together and my exam is friday so i think i don't have time to be learning more things :P

@anOKsquirrel e belongs inside @anOKsquirrel

ty ty though

@flawr holy shit that's good
Joining Math SE just to upvote

6:51 PM
Thanks guys, I just want to show this guy that his efforts are highly appreciated!

<3
Oh, I didn't even notice that this hat stuff started 0.o

@flawr I'm making screenshots for a tutorial Powerpoint, but I don't have edit-access to the actual Google Drive folder, so I made my own copy and I'm pasting stuff together in MS Paint. When you click-drag a file (or folder) into a folder, it highlights in a certain way, and I figured out how to recreate that with Chrome's element inspector... :P

E> equals weird heart

But first I had to descend through about 20 divs... :P

6:53 PM
Very interesting @El'endiaStarman

@undergroundmonorail You know that ∫(u')du is u+C, so finding the integral of the coefficient of e^u (the u' in u'e^u) will help you solve the integral.

(He est beep-able!)

Me started the 'e' game.

Why so french?

Because es be en French
Besides, French exam heute (German)

6:56 PM
What e-game?

:26166386 Nice attempt.

I'm starting work on a golfy version of Perl.

gg(e)

@quartata wow Seriously?

6:56 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Bonne chance!

It'll be postfix (unlike Pyth) and it'll use CP437 for reasons that I'll reveal later
If anyone is interested drop me a ping

@quartata WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THAT!

Hoping to get some basic code here on Github soon.

You Seriously want to make this?

6:57 PM
@flawr Because Pyth just isn't golfy enough.

ok ill shutup now

I like how the hats take a second to load after a message is posted.

I mean, Pyth is a golfy version of Python
Perl is golfier than Python

The only good thing about a Perl golfing language is that it cannot get more unreadable.

6:57 PM
So
@flawr Oh just you wait.

@FlagAsSpam in this case i already know the integral of the coefficient is u, don't i? i actually started with ∫4x^2e^(5x^3+9) and had to change it to (4/15)∫(15/4)4x^2e^(5x^3+9) in order to get the coefficient to be something helpful for me

Look some people here like Perl stop bashing on it

some

Anyways I really just wanted to get Doorknob's attention

6:58 PM
Therefore, less données est inside the result. @Quart-of-potatoes

@undergroundmonorail (just more of a future tactic)

@anOKsquirrel two and one is a mod
So shush

fine two

ahh. thanks :)

Perl's native system...?

6:59 PM
<- Flawr the red nosed slow worm.

What I have in mind is actually all really clever stop hating pls

No

is it seriously clever?
hahaha
I'm leaving, I'm leaving

I don't want to reveal anything until I actually have code I can show.
Then I'll start a room dedicated to it

6:59 PM
oh wait.

Where people can come in and give thoughts

For some reason I thought you were Mego.

I just wanted people to be aware

I can't read apparently

Perl's native system? Fonctionne en Fenêtre?

7:00 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Perl works in Windows yes
It'll be like Pyth where it transpiles to Perl

@quartata Teach me Perl?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Maybe

I'm approaching ~100k people reached. c:

Also the diamond operator is really nice and does all sorts of good stuff

@FlagAsSpam I have 53k. I literally don't know what to do with this metric.

I have 2k and I barely ever do stuff

One-hundred-forty-four-thousand

7:02 PM
I like to pretend I helped 2k people.

i never know when i'm supposed to stop in these problems haha. i went from 4(e^144)/15 - 4(e^4)/15 to (4e^144 - 4e^4)/15 to 4(e^144 - e^4)/15 and the answer in the book is the first of those three :P

That site shows you how to install Perl and junk

hehe ^^^

@FlagAsSpam yes

Oh, alright.

Just for the holiday season. Did the same thing last year :P
(Two years ago, I was Doorknob of Snow)

Luckily, I can change my name on the 31st.

7:42 PM
Look, ma, I have weird for loop syntax! for(;!a[0].equals((a[0]=a[0].replaceAll("67|76|789","7"))););
Wait, are functions allowed by default?

@Doorknob冰 You look so frosty.

@AlexA. You know, right?

Challenge idea: Given a number n, compute the first n terms of the following sequence. For an integer i, count the number of times one must factor i, join the sorted factors into a string, parse as a number, etc., until the result is prime.
@FlagAsSpam I know all. That is, except for what you're asking.
function f(x::Integer)
    x > 1 || return 0
    n = x
    i = 0
    while !isprime(n)
        p = sort(collect(keys(factor(n))))
        n = parse(Int, join(p))
        i += 1
    end
    return i
end
That's the Julia reference implementation for my challenge idea.
It might be too simple to be fun.
Idk. If you're reading this, let me know what you think. :)

7:57 PM
Methinks sequence est interesting.
@quart-of-potatoes ees close, me rep!

okay, I should really make some simple challenges.

^ yeah ye really (word-three)

"Why am I getting the wrong answer? I'll ask the internet."
"I don't feel like fucking around with mathjax so I'll just photograph my paper."
"Actually my writing is pretty small, I'll write it out again but bigger and clearer so it photographs well."
*gets right answer*
"Oh, that was the problem! My math was too small!"

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I have some code that I'm pretty sure works... can you help me? I've never used JS before.
f(a){for(;a!=(a=a.split(new RegExp("67|76|789")).join("7")););
Call with f("")?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ How did your French oral exam go?

8:12 PM
@AlexA. C'est great! :D
@FlagAsSpam ye maybe great avec f() // e

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I had a feeling you'd nail it. ;)

But that would work for this challenge, yeah?

@AlexA. :D danke
@FlagAsSpam use RegExp
