@VoteToClose Hmm. I don't think there are enough relevant questions to make it worth creating an tag.

:P

Guys I'm trying to ask on SO and it's refusing to post due to some formatting nanny shit
Does anyone know a JS snippet I could run to disable this?

wont they have the similar check server side too?

not necessarily

3:07 PM
just Ctrl K the shit out of it?

I want my post to be formatted correctly.

correctly != properly?

I should learn JS.

Ctrl K the shit out of it, then edit it out later.

I don't want to code in it, but it's important to be able to dismember webpages that don't do what I want.

3:09 PM
"dismember"

Like I've tried to use a page with a simple form with some text boxes and a submit button where buggy JS disabled the submit button.

@feersum Copy your post, reload the page with JS disabled, and submit?

I'm so confused right now. I'm just imagining Beta and Peter drinking pot tea while Lembik does lines of cocaine.

@PeterTaylor Good idea! It would have worked, but...
they check it server side arghhh!

wont they have the similar check server side too?

3:13 PM
Maybe if I insert zero-width spaces between every pair of spaces it will confuse the format nanny.

:P

I wonder what it's looking for.
I have a <pre> formatted block with a compiler error.
I guess it's something in there.

@Lembik Second ;)

3:32 PM
On the topic of plane crashes:
Kogalymavia Flight 9268 (KGL 9268/7K9268) was an international chartered passenger flight, operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia which crashed in central Sinai following departure from Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport, Egypt to Pulkovo Airport, St. Petersburg, Russia on 31 October 2015 at 4:13 UTC (7:13 Moscow time). The aircraft, an Airbus A321-231, was carrying 217 passengers and seven crew members. 214 of those aboard were Russians and three were Ukrainian, mostly tourists. With the death toll of 224 people, Flight 9268 was the deadliest plane crash in Egyptian history, surpassing the...

@mınxomaτ thanks! Not that I had heard of AutoIt :)

@flawr plane crashes are actually on-topic here.

@Lembik I've added an extensive explanation for you ^^

thanks!

I'm really surprised that not many people heard of AutoIt. It is even a job requirement for some automation/testing IT jobs (along with Powershell, Perl etc.).

3:35 PM
@Optimizer Are they?

@mınxomaτ maybe hobbyists and amateurs don't use it :)
which is what many of us are
also..I don't own a copy of windows :)

@Lembik It is mainly used by hobbyist :) .
And I think this should run in wine 1.7

interesting
and you can move aliens with it!
anyone want to bet what the minimum program size will be?
<200 or not
it's funny how no one even bothers trying in C or C++

Because that would require extensively long API calls (at least in Windows).

@mınxomaτ can't you just use sdl for example?
or maybe even some dirty low level trick that only works in linux :)

3:40 PM
@Lembik Not really that much of an improvement length-wise.
sdl i mean

@mınxomaτ how about writing directly to some framebuffer?
(this is a linux concept if you are not a linux person)

You could overwrite the desktop device context :D

right :)
some sort of dirty trick surely would be fun for someone to implement!

But GDI and loading the image is still shorter (even if blittet to DC(0))

@mınxomaτ oh sorry I meant for the previous pixel drawing challenge
in any case.. I feel some C/C++ person ought to enjoy it :)

3:42 PM
The question is if you allow hardcoded jumps (by offset) into DLLs. This allows drastically small x86 binaries.

that sounds fun too :)

Example (256bytes Windows executable): pouet.net/prod.php?which=50582

nice
@mınxomaτ if you had the energy to make an animated gif for your answer that would be nice

@Lembik The screencast flickers slightly because my solution uses 100% cpu time because of the empty loop: h60.imgup.net/aliene727.gif

so you are saying that you have only a single core computer?
or otherwise, your language can spread your empty loop across all the cores?

3:49 PM
No, my other cores are occupied :)
(crappy laptop - cant record >20fps).

nice one @VoteToClose XD

361 rep for the week is pretty staggering for me. XD That's more than half my entire rep overall.

:P

4:05 PM
lol moment I got mortarboard without actually hitting rep cap at the end of the day

:D happy I thought I was alone

2 down votes = checks ... you'd only need one upvote to cancel that :P

I know - but I had received 2 down votes, so total rep gained for the day was 196.
So close... :D

What's the shortest quine in Pyth?
'rd3*Z is the shortest one in Vitsy, now.

2Q is a quine in simplex. :7

Explanation? :D

q is a quine in... you know

HQ9(+|++|-|--|...)

@VoteToClose One second, it may actually be shorter...
checking docs

4:28 PM
-.- You have a built in, don't you?

I might not have one. And it's actually longer ;-;
2Q``

How it work?

Well, Q does this: Adds program source code to outer program, from the beginning (exclusive of ! characters, if the current byte is not zero) If byte is 2, duplicates current command
And ` does this:
a = # of occurrences mod 4.
(a = 0) Evaluate outer program
(a = 1) Suppresses evaluation of outer program
(a = 2) and instead outputs it.
(a = 3) Evaluates outer program, copying the current program to the next outer program (at the end)

That's fancy. o-o

4:30 PM
It's not Simple, though. ;D

XD Related, Simplex was originally a joke language.

Right, I must go to be mildly social. Bye, all!

Probably operators too

<The C a r r o t Destroyer> @ΚριτικσιΛίθος is an offender.

@ThomasKwa If you want to re-implement a language of that family as a golfing language, J would probably be a better choice. More built-ins.

I needed to add case insensitivity

I don't know anything about J

@TheCarrotDestroyer I am not an offender. The whole of PPCG is an offender

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ "bunyip"?

@ΚριτικσιΛίθος

@Dennis All of the . and : functions of J could probably fit in 256 characters too
I don't know enough about the adverb syntax to know if it's generally longer than Pyth-like syntax though

If the bot is down, then Carrots carrots ^^^^^^^^

oh, a little late

5:17 PM
We should start a "Save the Carrots" organisation.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ That's probably for the best. Neat bot though. How do you write one of those?
2

@Dennis Thanks :D

If I were to develop a programming language, I would name it "Carrot".

5:19 PM
It's rather simple: I run it locally on my browser, it has a function that checks the most recent message (along with who sent it), and it runs a loop that validates the input @Dennis

@ΚριτικσιΛίθος Gives me the idea "CarrotTeaScript"

Q: How did/do the Russians make carrot tea?

FloundererA while ago I read a book about the Russian Civil War (it was Blood on the Snow by Emanuel Litvinoff) in which the characters frequently drank coffee made out of acorns and tea made out of carrots. I tried naively making carrot tea by grating some carrots and pouring hot water on them, like I wou...

@Vɪʜᴀɴ Maybe just CarrotScript.

@ThomasKwa Not sure if that's still true if you differentiate between monadic and dyadic though.

@Dennis jsoftware.com/help/dictionary/vocabul.htm lists about 120 functions; most of them should fit. Make the 20 or so least useful ones two bytes, and use the 30 characters left for doing non-function things

I would like to create a new programming language and I would like to know how do I start?

5:31 PM
You start with a carrot

@ΚριτικσιΛίθος I'd say it depends on what type of language it is

So first the user gives a String to manipulate. Then the user will give commands how to manipulate it, for example turn it into an integer, or concatenate it with something, or turn it into a carrot.

So it's a command line text editor type thing.

@SuperJedi224 I think so
I copyright my language name (that is if I create a language): CARROT
