Ah, if it's not showing up as a match on the lists, then it might be a whole subnet being blocked. I had that with an external server, once. Something in the same /24 was spamming ( as was killed fairly quickly byu the ISP) but some idiot RBLs blacklisted a big chunk of the network for a few days.
Though in that case I got a match here: mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=blacklist%3a195.0.236.31
But you're not showing up there either.

actually when I think about it, I got one question.. do you know if adding hard drives speeds up the internal fans on a DL380?
we have one diskless (usb pen esxi) and one with 8 10k disks.. the latter is -noisy-

@pauska I don't know of anything automatically speeds up the fans, but surely the internal temperature will rise a good amount with a populated server? I've never run one diskless, but they're all loud to me!

@Dan: It's almost completely silent without disks, so the difference is quite large

@pauska yep - all decent HP kit has fans that are directly controlled by a number of sensors throughout the box, adding more CPUs/memory/disks/cards etc. is going to add heat, which the sensors pick up and tell the fans to scrub

@Iain Well...we've identified a few weaknesses. Only the power cut had some real effect (4am on a sunday morning), 5 hours later somoene was trying to get on site. First thing ICT support knew was 7:30am the monday morning after, so 26 hours after the cut happened.
UPS's worked fine shutting most things down, DNS has been a bit fruity.

No Wireless, internet, building control, phones (although this was up fairly quick) cashless cartering (for the students food).

Like I said, if it happened during term time then a few things would have happened. Better logging/monitering, potential of our own generator, on-call pay and whatnot.
The power outage was caused by a feed going into a local AXA insurace place, blew up and took out their power, our schools power and the college next door, and a Sainsbburys, as well as a major MoD office.
Would have been inteersting being in the MoD at 4am when it blew...

@tombull89 Ah; our UPS's management cards have e-mail capability. If the power blinks for more than 5 seconds they shoot an e-mail saying so. If I don't get an e-mail within 10 minutes saying the power is back on (again, 5 seconds consistent) I know everything is shutdown/off.

why does python SUCK so much?
It's really easy to do things that are hard in other languages (GTK/dbus notifications), and really hard to do things that are trivial in other languages (HTTPS client with certificate validation)

I've been there before with the tar --exclude command, trying to figure out why it wasn't working as I expected. Problem is, it does exactly what you tell it to do.

Anytime I'm trying to do something quickly, like transfer someone's profile from an old computer to a new one, it is inevitable that I'll run into something like file system corruption... It just never fails.

I am not sure I have, but he seems to think I did. The mysql password() really sucks... I really wish it would generate and use a unique salt for each password.

I've got the DMC Pro1 series, CP and a UV filter as well. The UV is dirt cheap and a nice protector more than anything. Though it does work nicely (UV doesn't normally mess with photos too much).
The Pro1D filters are more expensive, have a different outer coating from the the DMC series. Something like that.....

I see they make a 70-400 now too; that's going a little overboard. =]

so get this, me and a friend are messing around with firewall settings to get our camera system's remote access working properly. We find a rule that seems to be messing things up that essentially says "All incoming traffic to the LAN gets denied". We delete it to see if it works...the net blows up and keels over.
Us panicing place the rule back thinking it broke the net (even though that doesn't make much sense to us) and the net is still borked. 2 hours later, we discover my ISP actually has a "major outage" for the next 4 hours that just happened.

@voretaq7 Yeah, looks more difficult than it ought to be. Can you use ssl and urllib2 together? (rather than having urllib2 handle the ssl)

@MikeyB, Ah, I see, and i somewhat agree. There are about 6 different SSL libraries and each one seems to be half-complete.
last time I looked none of the libraries really did a good job supporting http/1.1
