Ah, if it's not showing up as a match on the lists, then it might be a whole subnet being blocked. I had that with an external server, once. Something in the same /24 was spamming ( as was killed fairly quickly byu the ISP) but some idiot RBLs blacklisted a big chunk of the network for a few days.

Though in that case I got a match here: mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=blacklist%3a195.0.236.31

But you're not showing up there either.

actually when I think about it, I got one question.. do you know if adding hard drives speeds up the internal fans on a DL380?

we have one diskless (usb pen esxi) and one with 8 10k disks.. the latter is -noisy-

@pauska I don't know of anything automatically speeds up the fans, but surely the internal temperature will rise a good amount with a populated server? I've never run one diskless, but they're all loud to me!

@Dan: It's almost completely silent without disks, so the difference is quite large

@pauska yep - all decent HP kit has fans that are directly controlled by a number of sensors throughout the box, adding more CPUs/memory/disks/cards etc. is going to add heat, which the sensors pick up and tell the fans to scrub

@Iain Well...we've identified a few weaknesses. Only the power cut had some real effect (4am on a sunday morning), 5 hours later somoene was trying to get on site. First thing ICT support knew was 7:30am the monday morning after, so 26 hours after the cut happened.

UPS's worked fine shutting most things down, DNS has been a bit fruity.

@RobertMoir hah, nothing is going to happen. NOTHING. It was in school holidays so no serious effect, athough if it was a week later there would have been a class-a poopstorm. No Wireless, internet, building control, phones (although this was up fairly quick) cashless cartering (for the students food).

Like I said, if it happened during term time then a few things would have happened. Better logging/monitering, potential of our own generator, on-call pay and whatnot.

The power outage was caused by a feed going into a local AXA insurace place, blew up and took out their power, our schools power and the college next door, and a Sainsbburys, as well as a major MoD office.

Would have been inteersting being in the MoD at 4am when it blew...

@tombull89 Ah; our UPS's management cards have e-mail capability. If the power blinks for more than 5 seconds they shoot an e-mail saying so. If I don't get an e-mail within 10 minutes saying the power is back on (again, 5 seconds consistent) I know everything is shutdown/off.

I tried PvP in Guild Wars, similar to WoW... same thing 8 vs 8 (humans; plus bots where applicable) it's insane.

Well usually you just respawn and run back to the group... But I suppose there are games with single elimination.

Also exploits the fact that some games limit replenishing certain weaponry (particularly things like grenades) to respawning; while minimizing team deaths.

The multiplayer is generally much more addictive than the single player.

Intelligent enemies and team mates... makes a big difference.

there are basically two options in a firefight in BF3 solo; either hide and let your teammates clear everyone out

or your teammates will do nothing and you have to kill everyone

I like wow pvp mostly because I'm decent at it, and it's very satisfying to hit someone so hard that you kill them in 3-4 seconds. That said, I play a class that's generally terrible for PvP, and annoying to play

I've got the DMC Pro1 series, CP and a UV filter as well. The UV is dirt cheap and a nice protector more than anything. Though it does work nicely (UV doesn't normally mess with photos too much).

The Pro1D filters are more expensive, have a different outer coating from the the DMC series. Something like that.....

Vari-ND would be nice, but I've resigned to the fact that they're much more expensive than I'm willing to spend on a peripheral hobby. Especially when I have too many cash-sink hobbies to start with.

Why is there not an rm -rf equivalent for Windows? I don't want to be asked about each type of file, permissions, anything; just blow it away...

so get this, me and a friend are messing around with firewall settings to get our camera system's remote access working properly. We find a rule that seems to be messing things up that essentially says "All incoming traffic to the LAN gets denied". We delete it to see if it works...the net blows up and keels over.

Us panicing place the rule back thinking it broke the net (even though that doesn't make much sense to us) and the net is still borked. 2 hours later, we discover my ISP actually has a "major outage" for the next 4 hours that just happened.

I need to write a script that connects to a bunch of sites on our corporate intranet over HTTPS and verifies that their SSL certificates are valid; that they are not expired, that they are issued for the correct address, etc. We use our own internal corporate Certificate Authority for these site...

@MikeyB, Ah, I see, and i somewhat agree. There are about 6 different SSL libraries and each one seems to be half-complete.

last time I looked none of the libraries really did a good job supporting http/1.1
