@tombull89 didn't you know? All Acer computers are the same!
2:55 AM
@Bob: They are all crap? ;p
3:13 AM
@tombull89 lol
3:31 AM
@tombull89 At least he didn't say "Windows".
Anyone else agree that is far to close to a product recommendation question?

Q: Is a i5-4200U (2.60GHz 1600MHz 3MB) faster than i5-4210U Processor (1.70GHz 1600MHz 3MB)?

gsc-frankI know that they are different models and that make the comparison a little tricky, but I'm asking about an overall performance evaluation. Notice the diff at CPU clock, 1.7 vs 2.6

there we go
I really don't want to see more questions like that....
3:48 AM
put on hold as a HW recommendation, and posted a helpful comment.
@Bob I seem not to understand Laythe's aerodynamics very well. :S
I will help anyone provided they are willing to help themselfs :$
good lord; wish this doctor who download would hurry up!
I am bloody tired
7am on a sat; all day class ( literally sun up to sun down )
just spend 4 hours doing homework :-(
@Bob imagine this: Spaceplane. Mk 2 cockpit with 3 Kerbals. Attached to two orange soda cans (the Rockomax jumbo fuel tanks). Spaceplane Plus mod providing more wings with more flexibility, so I built three pairs of wings totaling 24 lift, plus 7.2 lift of elevons (like ailerons) on the wings, plus a tail with rudders for another 4 lift, plus an elevator for 1 lift. 8 pair of 2-tire landing gear. science lab on the end. various instruments on top.
configured with three Rapier engines with ramjets above AND below each middle wing of the 3 pairs. total 12 Rapier engines mounted on the wings. on the back, I have a mainsail liquid engine.
it's fairly aerodynamic and controllable in Kerbin's atmosphere; it's not GREAT, but the pitch is super easy to control, and it can get enough air speed to maintain level flight at a fairly high altitude without making the rapiers burn oxidizer.
long trip to Laythe on the mainsail. Hohmann transfer etc. Start to try and fly it around in Laythe's atmosphere, and... WTF?!?! it keeps pitching end over end! tried various things: air-breathing engines the problem? closing the intakes to reduce drag? running only on the rapiers? how about only the mainsail?
had an enormous amount of difficulty trying not to crash in the water, and to just control the plane, even with Vernor engines for RCS, and SAS enabled. the plane kept wanting to flip over and spin out of control. whatever fluid forms Laythe's atmosphere is either ridiculously thick or I'm just doing it wrong...
landing was hopeless so I did a bunch of science over the waters of Laythe and came back to Kerbin... not nearly as fruitful as I had hoped; I wanted a surface sample >_< then I tried to land it on Kerbin like a rocket and it exploded, so then I tried landing it like an airplane and it worked... landed on the grass (because screw runways) and applied the gear brakes.
3:59 AM
@Ramhound: meh, I can't do that until I rebuild my seedbox ;p
Anyone that likes Doctor Who is gets an A in Geek 101
I'd do that but mom keeps asking me if I'm tired, not waiting for an answer, then throwing me things to do
(and I am tired)
@JourneymanGeek are you bored? *throws you 10 games to play* HERE! PLAY THESE!
are you thirsty? *dumps a bucket of water on you* HERE! DRINK THIS!
who needs an answer? questions are meant to be answered automatically in the head of the asker, obviously!
4:29 AM
Oh and @JourneymanGeek I answered your question in softrecs softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/a/10945/240
@allq I still haven't built a non-stupid spaceplane
So pretty clueless here
4:45 AM
@allquixotic: that's pretty much what my parents do
@HackToHell: heh. I DO believe my old phone has gravitybox already
I probably need to charge it first tho
@Bob apparently it's really simple to make a space plane that gets to orbit with just a rapier engine o_O
5:41 AM
@JourneymanGeek Cool
I JUST remembered why I needed to compile rtorrent
6:00 AM
Tempted to get one these dx.com/p/…
6:14 AM
That app that raised millions from VC's
6:28 AM
how can I clear all data of a single website from chrome?

9:17 AM
Ugh, today's kids are forgetting the old-fashioned art of absentmindedly reading the same half-page of a book over and over and then letting your attention wander and picking up another book.
@allquixotic I don't think I even have that yet!
Haven't played KSP in a while
ugh. Looks like I screwed up my attempt at rutorrent in fedora
I need to rebuild that system, most likely cause I was silly enough to try a script
9:30 AM
and I'll probably get it working on a VM first. Working on that specific system is a pain
@Bob thn and reddit need faster refresh
9:50 AM
Will China take over?
1 hour later…
11:15 AM
just had a fairly large size (in area covered) earth quake here in california. Stirred not shaken. It specifically had the floor moving in a circular kind of direction, not a "rolling wave" more of a hula hoop style. never had one like that before.
@MichaelFrank what video
I'd guess
@JourneymanGeek Yep, that's it.
its hillarious ;p
@JourneymanGeek The entire video is about TS and her sucky dancing ;p
WD doesn't specify transfer speeds o0
11:30 AM
@HackToHell: and utterly self depreciating humour ;p
@JourneymanGeek She is like I can't dance yipeeee
@HackToHell: if you can't do something well, might as well have fun doing it ;p
and she's parodying quite a few folk ;p
@JourneymanGeek She is cute :D
she is ;p
@JourneymanGeek ... o.O
11:38 AM
yeah but her guitar skills are incredible
god this show is messed up
closer to the epicenter of the quake , here is a pic of walmarts booze isle trashed twitter.com/MikeNiccoABC7/status/503503066612899840/photo/1
I'm watching psycho pass. Its a really interesting premise, VERY tight storytelling, but god so violent
11:56 AM
@jokerdino I'm a sucker for a cute voice ;p
Oh and @jokerdino got the PyCon tickets ?
@JourneymanGeek heh. so, favourite vocalists/singers?
@Bob: wouldn't my last.fm account give that away?
Non-bandwise, Aimee Mann, Sarah McLachlan, Taylor Swift (your fault, all of you)...
Occationally Avril, but that's a mood thing
Then... Indica, Nightwish (with tarja, tho I generally like their later stuff), Delain, Within temptation...
You made me like Within Temptation :P
Within Temptation also does rather odd covers of stuff I wouldn't normally listen to
Oh, tori amos.
12:09 PM
@JourneymanGeek I keep forgetting about that :P
@Bob add me ;p
@HackToHell Heh. Musical compatibility is "low"... which is the highest of anyone I know :P
Aug 18 at 10:32, by Bob
Ha. Very low with jokerdino, low with hacktohell, low with tomwijsman, very low with sathya
@Bob lol, you listen to some weird music eh ? :P
@HackToHell You don't say :P
link to your weird music profile ? :P
12:13 PM
@HackToHell Sent friend request, see there.
Heh... I only really started with this category a few months ago. I blame Spotify :P
Looks like I have 3 requests o_0
> SOSOSO (Tsukui Kazuhito)
I wonder how it's pronounced.
12:16 PM
2009-2010 was Muse. Then Taylor Swift, a mix of others I forgot, Avril Lavigne, some more, hmm... oh M2M and Marit Larsen at one point. (And of course a bunch of others mixed in, but those were the main artist phases)
And most of that was before using last.fm, so... rather skewed there
In 2009 I was listening to Justin Beiber :|
Or maybe that makes it more accurate to my current favourites?
@JourneymanGeek oh, definitely.
@HackToHell no. not yet at least
@HackToHell Eh, could be wor- wait, no it can't.
@Bob: it can.
12:19 PM
@JourneymanGeek Avril Lavigne?
@jokerdino Who doesn't? :P
@jokerdino I got it, registration closes in 10 days
@Bob :/
@jokerdino: yeah ;p
@HackToHell I kid, I kid :P
@jokerdino What's wrong with her ? ;p
12:20 PM
@Bob lol, very true.
@HackToHell oh. What if I don't want to join you? :P
@HackToHell Nothing really. Just that she wanted to do country and ended up on rock.
@jokerdino You will be missing out some serious fun boredom ;p
Did you pay for rail tickets too?
I think so, I don't know.
Dad booked ;p
Did you buy the student tickets?
12:24 PM
OK. I'll try my best to convince myself to buy the tickets in the next week.
Deadline ends in 7 days, apparently.
And what about accommodation?
1:00 PM
how to find out different modes available for your wireless interface card?
1:16 PM
@jokerdino You decided on someplace iirc
@HackToHell Did I? O_O
1:28 PM
I have this device : RTL8191SU 802.11n WLAN Adapter
I was testing the security of my wifi network following this guide : http://lifehacker.com/5873407/how-to-crack-a-wi-fi-networks-wpa-password-with-reaver

iwconfig lists :
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.
when I try to put it into monitor mode by issuing iwconfig wlan mode monitor , i get :

and when I issue , sudo airmon-ng start wlan0 :

what can be the reason for the same.
1:54 PM
Q: How to put RTL8191SU 802.11n WLAN Adapter in monitor mode using iwconfig?

AshI w as testing the security of my wifi network following this guide and I am using "RTL8191SU 802.11n WLAN Adapter" in my debian pc for this purpose. iwconfig lists : lo no wireless extensions. wlan0 unassociated Nickname:"rtl_wifi" Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Assoc...

2:12 PM
does the card even support monitor mode?
(and eh, managed to get into Phoebe, after looking up the ip address so I can check stuff)
2:30 PM
@Ash: your command is correct it seems
I'm guessing its your card
2:51 PM
@Bob I don't scrobble from Spotify. I should. D:
@allquixotic Oh yea, I need to add you on there too :P
ROFL. this makes statements that I'm sure some people animals in this channel have something to say about ;p
3:11 PM
Poor dog.
Also, apparently gingers are either very sweet fuzzballs, or pure concentrated evil ;
@allquixotic what are you on last.fm?
@jokerdino same name :P
Last scrobble in Aug 2012.
23 mins ago, by allquixotic
@Bob I don't scrobble from Spotify. I should. D:
Guess I actually found your profile before through Sathya's friendlist.
3:15 PM
that should basically sum up my music tastes :P
it's chronological tho
top = most recently added, bottom = oldest
@allquixotic So, you like to listen to the song "Not found" by the artist "404"? :P
Huh, works now :S
@allquixotic well, no time like now to set it up? :P
That might be a great one-hit song.
@Bob just did ;D
@jokerdino rofl
embed it in 404 pages for SU? :P
> Your musical compatibility with allquixotic is Very Low
haha, even better.
3:17 PM
@Bob it's no surprise
I don't even know anyone, not even in my immediate family who has a decent music compatibility with me
> Do you want to make friends?
I have a super compatibility rating with Hacktohell and very high with JMG.
@allquixotic Of the people in this room, I'm "very low" with everyone bar two, who are "low" :P
3:19 PM
I share low music compatibility with allq. Good.
@jokerdino .....you guys all like PYTs?
it's overstimulating to me. need some mix of girls and guys
!!define PYT
@allquixotic It means I aint got time to learn your $5 words.
3:20 PM
Pretty young things? I listen to ABBA, Roxette, Simon&Garfunkel et all.
"P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" is a song by American recording artist Michael Jackson. It is the sixth single from Jackson's sixth solo album, Thriller (1982). The original demo version of the song was written by Jackson and Greg Phillinganes. Quincy Jones passed on the song itself but liked the title and, with James Ingram, fashioned a totally new song with that title. The demo version is featured on The Ultimate Collection. "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" was released on September 19, 1983, as the penultimate single from Thriller. The single charted at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no....
it's a song but it became a word, I thought anyway
@jokerdino I was going on JMG's list :P
I actually don't think I share too much of music taste with JMG. Last.FM just thinks so.
3 hours ago, by Journeyman Geek
@jokerdino I'm a sucker for a cute voice ;p
3 hours ago, by jokerdino
@JourneymanGeek oh, definitely.

3 hours ago, by Bob
@jokerdino Who doesn't? :P
I'm "a sucker for a cute voice" for about 15 minutes per day... can't stand more than that
more a sucker for a harmonic melody
@allquixotic My list would look quite mainstream.
@Bob ha nice. 2 songs / day?
Wait, I remember the story now.
just a nice number
@Bob I checked your profile to see 2 tracks / day scrobble count.
3:25 PM
And remembered the story of you forgetting about Last.FM until recently.
there's something fundamentally satisfying about the musical arrangement in certain songs... can't quite put my finger on it. (those 3 songs intentionally picked because they have nothing to do with one another in genre, so you can't just pigeonhole me to a specific type of artist)
nah, I made that account ages ago for a now-forgotten reason
^ that
it was either you or @JourneymanGeek who reminded me
...I think
..I guess
@allquixotic ever heard the 4 chord song?
@jokerdino THE 4 chord song? the only one that ever existed?
3:27 PM
@allquixotic :/
Don't think this qualifies as 4 chord, but it's one of my favorite songs... so that's not it.
@jokerdino dunno, I think I prefer the music video... but the dialog at the beginning of that one's good too :P
that's the fox.
that would be me.
and I generally don't like to spread that username around :P
thanks :)
3:29 PM
What does the fox say?!
aw, can't perma delete it.
@jokerdino eh, I don't mind mods/room owners
Hm, I actually can do it. The button's there.
I lost all anonymity when my boss linked me a SO question I had asked as a possible solution to a problem I told him I had
"this may help </snirkIThinkThatsYou>"
3:31 PM
lol I was there when you were talking about it.
Q: Scary islamic messages on mouse in LibreOffice - a virus?

yuviThis is weird. Today I opened an excel file with LibreOffice. Suddenly I saw the mouse changed color, and stuck to it was a message in Arabic, which changed every second in a loop. I can actually read Arabic so I immediately recognized it as Islamic messages praising Allah (including the Takbir)...

unity-tweak-tool? Why mention that? :/
3:54 PM
> scary Islamic messages
> don't worry, it's intentional
!!meme okay
4:47 PM
I may never win another game of Dawngate again.
Come play Dota with me :P
fuck DotA
Boo, Dota 2 has the largest price pool in e-Sports .
I don't care if they pay you a million dollars just for making an account; it's a bad game and I don't like it
I don't play games that suck
Why does it suck ? :P
What makes dawngate better ?
4:53 PM
> After playing Dota and league for YEARS, Dawngate has a feeling to it that makes me want to sit and watch, learn, and play for hours.
> Color and art. I think league should be ashamed, because Dawngate has outright beaten Riot in graphics, art, and animation.
Point 1 is invalid, Dota 2 is beautiful.
And according to your Steam profile, you have never played Dota 2.
So yeah, you can't comment on Dawngate being better than Dota 2 until you have tried both.
Dota 2 is different from dotA ;p
5:18 PM
@JourneymanGeek thanks :) That settles it.
...god. I just took a crash course in IRC and DCC -_-
5:59 PM
@Bob course?
@allquixotic did you know there's some interesting IRC channels that happen to have a rather extensive collection of ebooks?
!! s/ebooks/viruses/
@allquixotic @allquixotic did you know there's some interesting IRC channels that happen to have a rather extensive collection of viruses? (source)
not when it's html :P
they're basically like bittorrent, aren't they?
6:01 PM
also, what are we talking about here? educational ebooks obtained without paying? eros? manga?
but yes, BTDT about 15 years ago
stopped doing never did illegal downloading
@allquixotic I've avoided it entirely for the last while. Games, Adobe CC, Spotify, etc., not that hard to pay for (see? it does work when you make it available for reasonable prices!)
*edited for NSA-correctness
But something I'll need for ~10 weeks, maybe 15 hours total? :\
6:18 PM
trying to use tex, every other thing I search ends up on TeX - LaTeX as some "when should I use X and when should I use Y"
I can see this is going to be painful...

7:34 PM
@allquixotic ouch, that guy who went 0-11
@Bob yeah, one feeder can bring a team down... although the rest of them were pretty eager to feed, also
before they surrendered, some of our guys were twice the level of some of theirs
there was a 1 on 1 duel between our Freia and their Tess (the 0-11 one), and the Tess didn't even attempt to run... level 5 vs level 10... no chance
8:08 PM
Am I missing something or is that answer complete and utter bollocks?
> across three filesystems
...this sounds dangerous
synchronization / threading among the most significant issues
especially if researchers are in there doing random shit during it
8:55 PM
@Bob I've seen that guy a few times... He's really not that good.
@allquixotic I just noticed I have about the same number of wins as you do.
3 hours later…
11:59 PM
@MichaelFrank well I have been lagging so badly that I don't bother to play much anymore
