10:00 PM
@RegDwight :) Tricksy.
Ho wow, look what I just found:
4
Q: How to pronounce "integer"?

hoangDoes it have to sound like in ginger or finger?

But there've also been at least 6 questions that I closed unilaterally within the 5-minute grace period.

I realize that is old, but how did it get 4 upvotes?

@MrHen Short question, short answer, short comment. Beautiful.)))

@RegDwight I look upon thee with disapproval.

@MrHen I dunno. Votes are anonymous.

10:02 PM
@RegDwight Meh.

@MrHen Yeah if it got asked today it would probably get closed.

Just odd. I am a cleaner by nature so I still want to clean all that crap out. :P

Again, this is all about community building, and figuring out just how much is enough.

@RegDwight Very true.

@MrHen Oh we did clean up all those "how do I improve my English" questions.

10:03 PM
That is why I ask so many questions here. I know what I like but I don't care enough about me to just go do it.

There were like hundreds of them. But then it got written down in the FAQ that they are off-topic now, so we closed them all.

Well, I am going to ask the pronunciation dupe anyway and see what happens.

And now we're closing any new ones that keep coming in.
@MrHen Don't forget to also ask for a recipe for a really tasty egg-salad sandwich.

@RegDwight Cool. Not sad I missed that :)

Someone could ask for a recipe for a really tasty egg salad sandwich and probably get at least one answer before it could be closed.

10:05 PM
@RegDwight Haha, true.

I'll dive into LEGO for a while. AFK.
Hm, someone didn't like @Dori's edit.)))

Q: What is the goal of linguisics?

compmanNot all linguists are trying to build languages, right? What are they trying to do? (To clarify, I'm not referring specifically to this SE site but to linguistics in general.)

sheesh

How dare you think it's about the site, Dori? It's about linguistics in general!

clearly not the place for that question, then

Yup.

10:13 PM
Silly me trying to make it on topic!

Yeah, for real. You really should know better!
Anyhow, sorry for pestering you. I'm in that LEGO pile over there. AFK.

And… closed. Thx for letting me know.

10:33 PM
Pretty funny that one.

Wow, Skeptics is so special, they even have a "review" link in the top bar.

Wow, I got a "Revival" badge.
Fantastic, ClaimID is not logging me in.

@kiamlaluno Where? I'm not seeing it here or on Drupal.

Drupal?

Yes, Drupal. That site where you're a mod, you know.

10:47 PM
I was trying to log in to skeptics.stackexchange.com.
Drupal.org?

D'oh. SE.
I'm asking about your badge.

@RegDwight I cannot see it. Am I even supposed to? (Ctrl+F returns code review)

@Vitaly I would say so.
I suppose you'd have to be logged in.

I am.

For thrice, I was asked my ClaimID username/password after I entered them, without any error being reported. (I should not get any error for that, thought.)
@RegDwight It's on SO.

10:50 PM

By the way, I am also a site maintainer on drupal.org. In some way, I am a moderator there too.

It's not there for me.

Fascinating.

So it seems you are special to them skeptics.

I don't see it either.

10:52 PM
Okay, lemme see...

Though I see a “review” link in the top bar on English.SE, now that I go there and pay attention to the top bar.

@Vitaly What the... I don't see it there.

These are the first answers a new user has ever submitted to English Language and Usage.

BTW, Vitaly, you're registered on too many sites. It took me a while to find Skeptics in that huge list.

Haha. Says RegDwight.

10:54 PM
@Vitaly Yes, I am familiar with that page. It's just that there was never a handy link to it.
Okay. I have figured it out.
It's on every site where I have more than 200 reps, except on Area51 and on ELU where I'm a mod.

@RegDwight You don't need to see the "review" link there. :-)

Says who?

Who?

I could navigate to it via the 10k tools, but that's cumbersome.

That's handsome!
I still have two hands, by the way.

10:57 PM
You're handsome.
No wait.
I'm still doing it wrong.

Should I get worried?
If who I am thinking of sees you wrote that referring to me, I am not sure who will be in troubles.

No wait, I can't get to the /review page via the 10k tools, either.

Oh well, I suppose they want you to take the load off the mods.

That's right; there isn't a review link in the tools page.

11:00 PM
@Vitaly Yes, again, I am familiar with that page and visit it quite regularly. I'm just looking for a direct link in the GUI, which everyone and his dog now seems to have.)))

A: Could I say "I'm looking at the project"?

Little BrotherMartin Beckett's answer is correct. In order to streamline the sentence, I might get rid of the and say something like "I'm looking at project 'Name'."

It's pretty borderline IMHO (a comment maybe?)

Kiamlaluno has edited everything there.

Who? When? Why?

You. Then. On the aforelinked question.

Oh yes… "Either X or Y are both correct."
I was like "what?"

11:04 PM
@Vitaly I think the whole question is borderline in its current form.

or that

It's not quite clear what he's asking about. The verb? The preposition?

A: "Based on" instead of "based off of"

Krassimira CharkovaI checked in the Corpus of Contemporary American English and there are only 7 instances when based off of is used, limited to spoken style. On the other hand, based on occurs with very high frequency in all sorts of discourse, particularly academic but also spoken.

I like how that user has used the ‎COCA in her first answer, neat
even more striking since the majority of other answers are unsubstantiated

More power to her.

@RegDwight You keep not saying the reason.

11:07 PM
Now where were I? Ah yes, looking for that template of mine to leave on the Project question.

(To notice I did use the participle/gerund.)

Well done!!

@Cerberus /me bows.

Good. I like grovelling.

@Cerberus Is that good?

11:10 PM
It is to me.
Hence the word "good".

You didn't say "I like groveling good."

I like grovelling good.

(I guess it's not the same as graveling.)

(...)

The "review" link must be a recent change.

11:15 PM
I only just noticed it when I was doing my evening round.

I didn't notice it on my last roundtrip.

A: Eeeek! I sense an Eeeek question about missing a unanswered tab!

Jeff Atwood Instead, is there any reason why we can't/shouldn't place it in the header with "tools"? After all, they're both similar in principle—moderation equipment. We decided to go with this for now. At 200 rep, a review entry appears in the top menu; at 10k rep it switches to tools. We'll be linki...

17 hours ago.

I've seen it before... but I don't remember where or what it was for; and I don't see it now.

@Cerberus You see it in every site where you are not a 10K user, or a moderator.

@Cerberus You've probably seen the page, like everyone here.
But there wasn't a direct link.

11:19 PM
Oh. Then how should I have arrived there?

Like the rest of us. Someone spilled the beans and pointed you to it.

I rarely follow people's links...
I think I once saw it on the right, somewhere above the chat link or something... is that possible?

Don't make me search the transcript, cause you know I will, only to find out that you were pointed there in this very room but don't remember anything, as usual.

Haha what can I say... might very well be true!

Anyhow, party people, I think I'll call it a day.
At least I managed to build three cars today. Not bad at all.
And don't you dare ping me for cake again, @MrHen.

11:22 PM
Well done!

Night all!

@Reg: Good night!
I think I shall be going too...
Adios!

Night.

Hasta la vista!
I am not sure who I am greeting, anyway.
@RegDwight Auf vidersen.
