7:00 PM
@KitFox Oh, haha, I read "my moral code is not better".
How odd.

@Cerberus ... Probably. I think in the common definition of liberal, it wouldn't make sense to use conservative as an antonym. So I imagine that Geta Christina (whom I'm quoting) is using the American political definitions.

God is a boyfucker? Because of the priests sodomizing boys, and they are the instruments of God and God didn't punish them, so obviously, He must like it.

Then, yes, you are saying that. Hehe.

@Cerberus I also suspect her moral code is better.

It's hilarious. Unless of course, you find things like that offensive.

7:01 PM
@KitFox but we're all part of God, so god is an everything fucker

"God made it, God made that perfect ruby starfruit."

@Cerberus I think my point is coming across stronger than I intend. Or perhaps I've changed my mind since writing those pieces. I think those meanings are there, but are in the connotation of the words, not the basic definitions.

@MετάEd As I said earlier, it always amazes me how religion talks about sex and bodily fluids. Religion should be about modesty, cleanliness, serenity, white robes. It shouldn't mention or even acknowledge the existence of sex.

Right at the beginning. How nice.

@TRiG Yeah probably. So she just means "leftists in America".
Which is fine.
@KitFox Obviously.
@TRiG Okay, well, I'm just giving you my intuitive reaction upon reading that.

7:10 PM
@Cerberus Well, any statement which begins "religion should" is doomed to failure.

Alas.
I mean, you don't want to talk about sex with your parents or God. It's just eww.

Please tell me you haven't had sex with your parents or God.
Because that would be supersquicky.

I have not.
Not to my knowledge.

What is a good inside joke password for the project lead? t0talDB?

Pestisstultus?

7:18 PM
giggles

Furcifer?

I decided on a variation of dwarrow.

Lovely.
I didn't know he was dwarvish.

He's a dwarrow derp.

@KitFox When my mate and I have sex, I'm God. Apparently.

7:25 PM
Hahaha.
Oh God. Oh Jesus.
repeat

@KitFox It's very thoughtful, really. Calling me by name is not so spiritually elevating and of course there is always the danger of using the wrong name, never good.

So my project lead in the meeting yesterday was talking about how he was certain that he would have most of the information I needed by the end of the day anyway, because his penis is so big or whatever.
Of course, it's been almost 24 hours since he said he'd deliver, and I haven't so much as heard from him.
I've poked at the site ever so slightly.
And mostly just been goofing off.
I'd much rather talk about how gay I am.

7:45 PM
I can't believe this conversation has gone on this long without invoking Minchin

You!

and
I mean, come on, ya bunch of slackers

user19161
He looks like Captain Jack Sparrow actually.

@KitFox And I still deny that I had anything to do with it. Not my fault.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I can't believe I forgot that one.
Because I have to listen to it every time I think of Tim Minchin.
Oh, I am so glad those Lullaby days are over.
Must. Stop. Watching.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I admit the possibility that I may have been lying all this time for comedic effect.

8:10 PM
@KitFox Now you're just trying to make me feel less paranoid.

I didn't say that I was, nor what I was lying about.
Fine. I'm too tired to keep up the charade. I'm bisexual. That's all there is to it.
I've finally come out and it feels so liberating, I'm going to go tell everyone I meet.
Maybe I'll have a party.
Do you happen to know how random order by NewId() is?

@KitFox gasps

ORDER BY NEWID() is effectively random, but not statistically random. There's a small difference, and most of the time the difference doesn't matter. — mrdenny Jan 28 '11 at 18:26
I don't know what that means.
@Mahnax I really thought it was important that everyone knew it.

@KitFox it means that if you need randomness, like for crpytography, then don't use it. If you want something sorta like random, then it may be good enough

@KitFox True randomness is hard to obtain, but it's good enough for what you need done, basically.

8:18 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Selecting random participants. Do you know how it is "sorta" random?

@KitFox OK. I hope I did not offend you.

@Mahnax I know that it is hard to truly randomize in code, but I don't know how to explain it to the project lead.
@Mahnax Well, I was being funny. We had a conversation about sexual orientation and a survey that asked about "coming out."

@KitFox A survey? intrigued

Now I need to share with everyone that I am really turned on by the smell of leather.
Also, I find chest hair attractive.
Which is strange, because I wouldn't have thought so.

@KitFox no. I suspect that "order by newid()" means that each row will get a new id during the execution of the query, and that number will dictate the final ordering. But since you can't control which rows the DB encounters first, you get something uncontrolled in the output, which is effectively random.

8:20 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 That's my understanding of how it works too.

for survey participants, I dunno. I'm not sure how the IDs are generated.

@KitFox Find him a nice youtube video about it, that'll occupy him for awhile.

like, Oracle doesn't guarantee the order of the results in a table. But if you query the same table again and again and nobody's updated it in between, you get the same order.

It's not for survey participants. I just need to order these rows randomly, and they will pick the first row.

Try not to find an interesting one, otherwise he might get excited about it.

8:23 PM
It should work fine, but he'll want to know the mechanics for the methods section.
Except that he won't listen and will probably write something dumb and then blame me for it later.

Ow, my brains. I give up on reading the transcript in between w*rk. It really is full of every possible discussion in here.

Gah, searching for randomness on youtube yields mainly preteens being "random".

I mean, good afternoon?

Yeah, almost quitting time.

Hi @aedia!

8:25 PM
You missed my coming out.

Of the grey sack?
@Mahnax Hiya!

Fine. I'm too tired to keep up the charade. I'm bisexual. That's all there is to it.
7 mins ago, by KitFox
@Mahnax Well, I was being funny. We had a conversation about sexual orientation and a survey that asked about "coming out."
There would be a lot of rehashing.
2 hours ago, by KitFox
When did I come out to my important people? I dunno. I never really did. I never was in, so no need to come out.

I wonder if I've ever talked about my sexuality here. searches

2 hours ago, by KitFox
In any case, I never felt like my sexual orientation was so profoundly important that I needed to announce it to everyone I know.

@JasperLoy I like my sexuality like I like my coffee. Ambiguous. I mean straight. Actually, I don't like coffee. This simile is flawed.

8:28 PM
And then a bunch of funny stuff where I was claiming to be "ragingly straight" &c. and the inevitable @Mr.Shiny made me straight glazed donuts conversation.
@MattЭллен rofl
I like my coffee like I like my men: with coffee.
My sexuality is like my men: in a cup.
Damn it.
I can't figure it out.

I like coffee!

Me too.

I like my women like I like my coffee: crushed into a fine powder then with water filtered through
I think I need a cup of woman right now. I mean coffee.

I’ve heard of debutante’s balls, but this seems more fun than those do.

I could use some coffee too.
I mean women.
No. Coffee.

8:33 PM
@KitFox lol

user19161
@KitFox I knew that long ago. It's pretty obvious actually.

I'm not reiterating the whole thing.
I'll just say whoosh.

user19161
@MattЭллен Now you are confusing me.

@Mahnax It is the most important thing there is to know about you? I sure hope not. :) Interesting people are a lot more interesting that their dating habits.

user19161
8:36 PM
Oh dear, Matt and Kit are trying to confuse me!

that message is over a year old!
nearly a year and a half

user19161
You never know the meaning of the shit people say in this room.

it confused you last time too
so, that's good

well, anyway it's consistent.

user19161
I tell you what I think: half the regulars in this chat are bi.

8:37 PM
@JasonBourne Speak for yourself. :)
@JasonBourne Don’t get your hopes up. :)

user19161
But I won't go on to name them!

user19161
I also tell you that I am hetero, for the 9000th time!

We weren’t sure whether or not to believe you the first time you said it.

user19161
Well, everything I say is consistent.

But by now, we are all sure about whether to believe you.

user19161
8:39 PM
Haha!

user19161
Just because I talk to trig about the pictures he posts in this chat?

brb getting myself a steaming hot cup of genderqueer feminist liberal treehuggers to help me understand what's going on

Rats.
I don't think I knew you were genderqueer.

cc/define genderqueer
Never a bot about when you need one.

user19161
By the way, I like the pictures trig posts. =)

user19161
8:42 PM
Now I am confusing you ain't I?

No, you are not confusing me.

You know that sexual attraction...never mind.

You are being boringly obvious.
Not confusing.

Genderqueer is more interesting.

user19161
Haha! Now you are confusing me! But never mind.

8:43 PM
I am having a hard time keeping my eyes open. I want more coffee, but I also want to leave soon.
debates

@KitFox Could you explain? I don’t mean to be daft; I am genuinely curious.

dammit, it turns out I'm all out of coffee! How did this travesty come to be?

user19161
I stole all your coffee while you weren't looking!

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 global warming

@MattЭллен No, it's because the brand I like went on sale at the grocery store and they were out of stock when I went to buy some.

8:49 PM
one day I'll be right

welp, nothing for it but to turn gay. I mean drink tea.

being British isn't the same as being gay.

user19161
There are many gays in Oxford I heard. My best friend is there now.

Yippee!
@tchrist People who identify as not strictly male or female.
Nonbinary gendered people.

10:00 PM
Whoo, ELL!

10:14 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Or, to quote a friend,
> I like my women like I like my coffee: imported at exploitative prices from Third World countries.

Does ELL mean I will be banned from this chat?

10:35 PM
@JasonBourne “Many” Surely he can count for one only.
@KitFox Ah, so that’s it. So it is about which sex you do or do not identify with, not whether you like GI Joe versus Little Princess stuff? I had wondered whether it just meant non-stereotyped gender roles, but I guess it is more than having a househubby and a working mom.

10:55 PM
@tchrist Yeah, as I understand it, genderqueer means something more than non-standard gender roles. (After all, the standard gender roles are so restrictive that almost everyone is non-standard in some ways. Standard gender roles are more fiction than reality. They're a story our culture tells itself.)

11:31 PM
@tchrist I think it was you who told me it was worth editing straight "quotation marks" in titles even though the rendering translates them to inverted commas. What was the rationale?
