What’s another word for thesaurus?
@MattЭллен because, between, yesterday are only some of the fine choices available to you at your disposal to choose from at your fingertips.
@MετάEd acertainsaurus.
user19161
@jay Yesterday I was surprised skullie got so upset over the flag.
Oh boy, tag wikis here I come!
@tchrist congrats!
15:00
Crap. We have to trust tchrist now.
DO NOT!
I am not the system
user19161
@tchrist But tag wikis is at 5k isn't it?
No, 20k.
@WillHunting 20K users can edit any tag wiki.
user19161
Wait how did you get 20k?
15:01
At least, for what I intend to do to them.
It all depends on from which end you're looking from.
user19161
You reversed a downvote?
mums
Nobody expects the Jasper Inquisition.
@WillHunting Never ask that.
15:02
@tchrist nice.
Yes. Never ask. Always claim.
@WillHunting Well, he did not say anything offensive and still got flagged. Even I was upset with GarbageCollector yesterday.
user19161
@RegDwighт JI is a terrorist organisation you know.
user19161
@JayeshBadwaik Like you said, "offensive" is relative, haha.
@RegDwighт I prefer clams, but that is another matter.
15:03
@WillHunting yes, I know. They live in JI HUT, that says everything.
wait...does the serial up/down/unup/undown voting checker check for seriality -against- a particular user, or -from- a particular user?
Actually, it is only one of those.
user19161
@RegDwighт Amazing that guy with a limp could climb over the fence and swim across to the neighbouring country ain't it? That's what happened to a guy in detention here.
Please don’t make me prove it.
15:04
@Mitch both
No.
Not both.
what if you find that there are a bunch of questions/answers that are bad? I need to know details. for gaming purposes.
A user can upvote 30 times in a row, provided it not be against a small set of targets.
This is a game, right?
If they are all different, it does not care.
15:05
@WillHunting Well, for one, GarbageCollector flagged a post for requesting new feature. I was like whaaaaa ?
@tchrist wait... you're right
@tchrist excellent (plans to be different)
Otherwise nobody could get the secret Badger badge.
user19161
@JayeshBadwaik What new feature? She is probably just a kid.
@JSBձոգչ well that's like 1/16th of Mitch's question.
Or 1/8 if I'm generous.
15:06
@JSBձոգչ dude, he just got 20K, don't feed it.
ha ha ha ha.
@tchrist it's not secret. Also, beware of the Snake badge immediately thereafter.
user19161
@JSBձոգչ It's not Christmas yet, save the ho ho ho.
congratulates @Mitch on his progress towards his Badger badge.
Mushroom! Mushroom!
15:07
Where not all values of his align.
@tchrist smiles cryptically
(Sigh!)
because he doesn't know what's going on
@WillHunting Ohh. Did not know that. She wanted a ChatJaX to support $\bcancel$.
user19161
Wow, I have 3 stars on the wall, miracle!
user19161
15:08
@JayeshBadwaik I am guessing that. GC could be a 50 year old man in disguise you know.
Wall? You mean the starboard?
user19161
@tchrist Yes, I call it the star wall.
Too much Facebook, @WillHunting.
@tchrist I thought starboard was left...
Right.
15:09
@tchrist Isn't that the right-hand side of the ship when you face the bow?
@WillHunting you only have two, Will Hunting.
user19161
I get 1 star here in 5 days, but 5 stars in 1 day there.
@WillHunting Exactly. If that guy could do it, you can do it. Now finish your soup.
@tchrist so it is :D
user19161
@kiamlaluno FYI, I have no FB account for both interpretations of FB.
15:11
always thought that FB meant something else altogether different
@WillHunting I have a FBI account, as I am Italian. ;)
fist bump?
Furtive Bovines
user19161
@kiamlaluno HAHAHA.
@WillHunting Now, you are scratching your armpits too loud.
FanBoy?
user19161
15:12
@kiamlaluno It is itchy, what to do!
Fruit Buoy
@kiamlaluno scratches armpits I get a different sound.
Facile da Baciare?
Futuro Bosco?
Frantic binoculars
Frisky Bingo
15:13
I always thought that “a FB” was an anagram for “buy duck fad”.
@MattЭллен I've played that. Everyone wins.
Why do I keep kicking electric plugins?
Because they’re socks.
So, do I play socker?
I keep forgetting the right word. Electric outlets?
15:15
Electricity outlets?
An electric plugin is a semi-autonomous fake user pretending to be somebody else, so of course as a mod, it is your job to kick the socks.
Kick the sock, and sock the kick!
Plugs go in sockets
astronauts go in rockets
What about ducks?
@kiamlaluno It’a just a buying fad.
15:17
Should I poke my pokers, or my pockets?
@kiamlaluno they don't fit.
ducks have brisket?
I thought they had duckers.
Nice try, but in which language are they?
> The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty. -John Adams, 2nd US president (1735-1826)
A nice contrast to the "A By Fuck Dud" alongside it.
15:22
@Manual Kilo: this is your new name.
Sings "I duck in the rain" as the dictionary says "duck - noun [in sing.]".
A FB == a fuck buddy
gasp What?
You led us to water and now you are making us drink?
Now we are getting over-rated.
hasn’t overeaten
15:23
@MattЭллен I bet it's a reference to my weight.
Or your nine.
@kiamlaluno I don't know your weight, but it's a funny name.
So I finally watched all of Revenge of the Sith this weekend.
It's wine... weight, wine, when.
15:24
It was the least worst of the three.
Sorry.
@MattЭллен I don't know my weight either. I think I should check it.
@kiamlaluno will it be an automatic kilo?
Uhmmm... 113.2 Kilos.
@tchrist Impressive.
15:26
@MattЭллен That is the kilo the scale automatically adds when I get closer.
For what single-word value of something is today Something Eve in America?
Maybe it's the weigher?
I can't parse that sentence.
The day before Christmas is Christmas Eve.
For loose values of several of those.
No, the night before Christmas is Christmas Eve.
15:28
@KitFox Depending on when you start a new day.
How do you call that thing to check your weight?
Not legally.
Weighter?
@kiamlaluno Scale.
@kiamlaluno scale, or specifically a weighing scale
jinx!
15:28
When your new date starts at sunset, for instance.
If your employer gives you Christmas Eve off, it does not mean you have a free evening, but a free day.
@KitFox Oh, I thought that was for food. :)
@MετάEd It just leads to these horrific "Christmas Eve Day" constructions that make me want to kill people.
@kiamlaluno Small ones. Bigger ones for people. Biggest ones for trucks.
offers @Kit more catsup
15:29
@KitFox makes mental note to avoid Yankee territory during the holidays
moves @tchrist up on the list
@tchrist My employer does give me Christmas Eve off, and it starts at 1pm, which by a stretch makes it evening.
@tchrist Right! Ketchup has natural mellowing agents that smoothe out those little bumps between one date and the next.
kitchup - a NZer saying ketchup?
Who is the one to the left? Frankenstein?
15:32
But anyway. We should all remember that it is the fifth of November.
@tchrist is right about that. Anybody got treacle?
gun powder, treason, plot!
Only Entish nephews have treacle.
That also makes no sense.
That’s the election one!
passes out the catsup to everybody
@KitFox treacle -> like uncle, but for trees
15:34
@MattЭллен That makes no sense.
wow, usually i'm up on the incomпrehensibility in this room, but the last few exchanges have really outdone themselves
So here's a pickle.
Good with catsup.
I see no reason why the gun powder treason should ever be forgot!
15:36
This annoying teacher (the one who said "The teachers in the Western Region." "Which are those?" "The ones in the Western Region.") has finally, after two or three weeks, sent me the information I needed to unlock her teacher accounts.
Except that of course, it's full of typos.
@KitFox You should reply with an email where all the words are written in a font that looks like pickles
Or the previous list is full of typos.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yes. Yes, I should.
15:37
I don't know which of the names are correct. I think I shall just leave it.
It’s well known that New Englanders lack catsup. And it shows.
It's five out of the six that have different spellings.
Hey! Don't post pictures of me in chat.
is that a cardboard cut out of a person eating a cardboard cut out of a pickle?
15:38
I find that . . . disturbing.
I hope @kiamlaluno doesn’t see it.
It's a pickle, not a mushroom
Exactly.
Oh, you'd rather it was a mushroom?
@KitFox does she have no way of fixing the entries herself afterwards?
Yeah, that is exactly what I thought.
15:40
also, ketchup is disgusting. what's wrong with you people?
@KitFox *were
That's what GIS told me when I searched for "pickle font"
@JSBձոգչ The users have already been created (about three weeks ago when she sent me the original batch). She can correct the entries, but she has to do it through me.
   🍄  U+1F344       MUSHROOM
She is one reason why I have been resistant to allowing the leaders to have control over the teacher accounts.
People seem to think all this stuff happens by magic.
Especially this user.
15:42
(holy cow my music sounds so much better through headphones instead of my crappy laptop speakers)
@KitFox ah... such is life. why can't you offload that onto the users?
if they did th edata entry, they have no one to blame when the data is wrong
(He must be from the only place where cows are holy.)
@JSBձոգչ The emails are critical for password resets, etc.
@KitFox Can teachers self-register?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 No, and I have been resistant to that as well.
@KitFox At least they're likely to type in their own email addresses right, esp if they have to click a link in the email to continue registration
15:45
It would require a lot more time than I have, and also I can't imagine how we would work the security for the student data.
🍄
What a shame: Firefox doesn't show the colored font used by the Mac.
It’s because of the font substitution ordering.
@KitFox Would it be secure enough if a teacher self-registered, and then applied for access to student data, and a pre-approved user had to review the registrations/applications and allow access?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yep. But that's not much different than what we're doing now.
@KitFox Well, the idea being, that you don't do any of the registration or data-entry or data-fixups. At least, once the initial trusted accounts are set up.
15:55
@MattЭллен kitchup is an 18th-century spelling for catsup, catchup, ketchup. Not that the a is always pronounced /ɛ/ no matter which of those three spellings is used. It is possible that we have a /æ/ > /ɛ/ and parallel /ɛ/ > /ɪ/ vowel shift going on. The vulgar palatalization of /s/ > /ʃ/ and thence to the affricate /tʃ/ is also unexplained. The origins of the word are obscure.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 But I would have to write the code and design the interfaces for all of that.
@tchrist eh, i thought it was straightforwardly from indonesian kicap ?
For me, it is pronounced like “gets up”, but with an unvoiced initial stop.
@KitFox Yeah, but only once.
15:57
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 And when will I do this?
@JSBձոգչ “The Japanese kitjap, alleged in some recent dicts., is an impossible form for that language.”
@KitFox Make it your top priority.
The rest are just making work for you. This one will make work for them.
> app. ad. Chinese (Amoy dial.) kôechiap or kê-tsiap brine of pickled fish or shell-fish (Douglas Chinese Dict. 46/1, 242/1). Malay kēchap (in Dutch spelling ketjap), which has been claimed as the original source (Scott Malayan Wds. in English 64-67), may be from Chinese.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I can't.
It’s weird to think of anchovy paste or mushroom paté as a kind of catchup.
15:59
someone should make a brand of ketchup called Kit Chaps, and have baby foxes in chaps as the mascot.
I hope they have something under their chaps, or else don’t turn tail.
@tchrist so my theory is respectable, if not perhaps the final source
It does seem of Asian origin, not American.
Unlike possums.
My mom has a very strange possum. It is pals with a skunk. And it has a black face not a grey one.
I’d never heard of possums and skunks being buddies before.
It comes to the glass door looking for scraps.
But it cavorts upon the lawn with its skunky friend. Very odd. They are always hanging out together.
@tchrist Sounds like a children's book
Can they interbreed?
16:06
doubt it.
Interbreed?
Placentals and marsupials?
How would that work?
Yeah.
Depends on which is female, I suppose.
Oh drat, our city council just passed an ordinance mandating nickel bags!
What are the kids going to do with all their dime bags now?
Lunch. Later.
> The largest difference between the opossum and non-marsupial mammals is the bifurcated penis of the male and bifurcated vagina of the female (the source of the term "didelphimorph," from the Greek "didelphys," meaning double-wombed)
16:10
Takes two to tango too.
Well, it's got two
It seems like every time I open up wikipedia I learn a new fact about animal penises.
7
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 You should open up Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller. You'd learn that much on the first two pages.
So "Softpedia" has an article called "top 10 penises" : news.softpedia.com/news/Top-10-Penises-60582.shtml
> the echidna has a four-headed penis!
16:27
Hardpedia’s are better.
This pulled pork sandwich seems ironic now.
won, woo, wee, wore, wife, wicks, woven, weight, wine, when.
What?
> Enlarge. Enlarge. Enlarge.
Every penis on that page asks me to enlarge it.
3
@KitFox wife and woven don't quite work, but they're close enough.
@RegDwighт so it's not rape.
16:32
@MattЭллен Maybe weaving?
@KitFox He is counting as I taught him.
@KitFox perhaps
wive sounds like a command
hee hee
I think I may have to eat this whole thing. I'm feeling rather imprudent today.
Now, now, now...
16:34
The onion rings are going in the garbage though.
It is better than impudent, though.
Noooo... Onion rings in the garbage!
I'm that every day.
They are really ungood onion rings.
(I bet J.R. Tolkien didn't like onion rings too.)
Either.
J.R. Either? Is that his real name?
16:37
Ether.
Hahaha
Esther.
Hester.
And the plastic parrot: polyester
Hastor.
I thought it was C10H8O4.
That is really a long name.
And you can say it n times.
16:39
That is C3PO.
@MattЭллен Hathor.
Heather Parisi.
Heathen Parisienne.
That is an American who had fame in Italy.
@KitFox We were just talking about n, but in terms of ploidy.
16:42
@Mahnax Who was?
Who were?
Hmm.
@KitFox My class and I.
In mathematics class, no less.
That makes two out of N, if you include Romina Power (daughter of Tyron Power).
Ah. Reproduction is an interesting thing.
Oh. Maths.
16:43
No, reproduction. But in maths.
Haploid, diploid, etc.
Oh. OK. Well, that is what I thought you meant.
Alright.
How is school this year?
Lots of work, but it's fun.
I'll be writing my first diploma exam this January.
Are you doing research this year?
@Mahnax Oh wow. That's exciting. Are you nervous?
16:45
@KitFox Not really, to be honest. It's in Biology.
Well, you should have that under wraps, no problem.
Yeah, Bio isn't too hard.
And then I have my maths diploma in June.
Calculus?
0
Q: Is this flowery writing or bad grammar?

ZidPhilosophy is loving wisdom. This perhaps is the vaguest the definition would ever become, because interpreting such endeavor demands the absence of etymology, for the terms shall not show its purpose. Love of knowledge, and search for truth at some point is broad and misleading definition as it ...

Why do we even have ?
@RegDwighт To encourage long-winded questions?
16:47
Hmm no, we are taking calculus next year, but it's optional and therefore is not on the diploma exam.
Gotta run. Lators.
@Mahnax Oh right, you are third year this year, right? I get confused about the Canadian system because of sageup.
@KitFox Er? No, second year of three.
@KitFox There is no "Canadian System". Each province has its own.
pfft I meant to write second. I can't count today obviously. You have something like a 3 + 2, don't you?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Oh. Well, that explains my additional confusion.
16:49
@KitFox A 3+2?
I had Canadian friends with teenage children. Wherever they were, they had 3 "high school" years plus two additional "college prep" years.
I thought it was called Sageup, but apparently I'm insane.
I have never heard of these things.
@KitFox I think you are referring to cegep, which is in Quebec, which is where high-school ends in grade 11, then there are two years of cegep (something like a community college), then typically 3 years of university or 1-3 more years of cegep.
After I finish high school, I'll be off to university right away.
Hopefully in Toronto.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 OK. I can believe that.
16:52
in Ontario it's 4 years of high school, then either community college or university. and our colleges are not like US colleges. They do not grant degrees.
@Mahnax so wait. high school is only 3 years for you?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yes.
At least I wasn't too far off.
Grades 10, 11, and 12.
ah, you had junior high, then?
Yeah.
7-9.
16:53
yeah. I guess we have that too, but it isn't uniform. Some elementary schools go up to grade 8, some only to 6.
depends on the local school district.
I see. I should have figured that Quebec would do things their own way. I couldn't remember if they were in Ontario or Quebec at the time.
Yeah, all the provinces really do it somewhat differently. Quebec is the most different though.
feigns shock
anyway, lunch time
