@Færd At least part of the austerity measures demanded were certainly very destructive.
I believe institutions have now admitted this.

@JohanLarsson I think it's called TV.

It is explained at some length on his Wikipedia page, if you were interested.
I'm too sleepy to focus on that now.
@Cerberus

@RegDwigнt: A vigorous forward wave from the wrist could mean an urgent wave off, but it would be a pushing kind of thing.

@Færd Uhh that is a bit long hehe.
I remember listening to V. a lot, during the Greek crisis.
And watching a documentary about the whole 2008–2014 crisis in which he was interviewed extensively.
I think most people agree that Greece was treated badly.
But the Greek government was also to blame.

12:24 AM
@RegDwigнt I’d call it a put-down gesture, stronger than a wave-off of dismissal; a gesture of rejection.

@RegDwigнt: A thought just occurred to me:
If you're not part of the song, you're part of the problem.
Took me a long time to work that out. But I finally did.

Can someone tell me what this quote means in simple Words:
> Life lived in the absence of the psychedelic experience that primordial shamanism is based on is life trivialized, life denied, life enslaved to the ego.

6:32 AM
hey@Knight you are reading something about religion!

6:46 AM
@CaptainBohemian Yes, sorta
I listened to Terence McKenna
And couldn’t understand that tough worded quote.

@Knight I can understand that sentence but may not agree with it. I don't know what the psychedelic experience it refers to, probably because I don't know shammanism.

@CaptainBohemian Please tell me in conversational langauge what does it mean

7:09 AM
@Knight but I feel that sentence is so conversational already - not including metaphors which are difficult to understand at all. If it includes something which may lead to poor understanding, it's the jargon shamanism.
I don't usually read articles about philosophy or religion.
Though I believe some paranormal phenomena, like astrology.

@CaptainBohemian I'm unable to understand what does "life denied" mean?

@Knight He was an ethnobotanist that worked on psychedelic plants. He says that to repeatedly deny the supposed innate attraction to deities and worshipping them, life is meaningless.
"Life denied" means you deny life to yourself if you're a Dawkins

@M.A.R. Please don't mind but your words are tougher than his
Now, who is this Dawkins and how he has come in this conversation?

@Knight "Your life is meaningless and not joyful if you repeatedly deny your attraction to finding, and worshipping a god."
@Knight He's an atheologian.
Of the very annoying kind.

@M.A.R. Oh WOW!

7:24 AM
Yeah it's a very wise quote, the assumptions notwithstanding.

I never thought someone with an emoji as his avatar could explain me such a beautiful thing.
(Actually, I and MAR know each other and hence we do some kind of harsh joking with each other)

@Knight this is kind of philosophical issue which depends on individual opinion. I see someone is explaining to you. I am so hungry, going to forage, so leave you here to listen to that person's explanation.

@Knight I never thought either

@CaptainBohemian Have a tight dinner !
@M.A.R. Why don't you change your avatar to something that matches your personality ?

I occasionally change my avatar. It's just not time yet
I used to often be some chemical

7:28 AM
Something like this

@Knight it's just afternoon now.

@CaptainBohemian Which country is yours? (if you don't mind)
for you ^ @M.A.R.

That doesn't have the right specs, and even if I crop it to a square icon, it'd probably look weird
You need something with a small amount of detail because your avatar is going to look really small anyway.

@M.A.R. But avatar does matter.
You're so knowledgeable just at the age of 21 but you avatar seems to suggest that you're an early teenager

@Knight Wow, you'd be surprised how knowledgeable younguns can be
I'm nothing
It's not a competition anyway, who cares how smart or dumb you are.
What matters is how much you add to the world. And I have next to nothing, and taken much in return

7:36 AM
@M.A.R. How younger is your brother from you? (no bad intentions behind knowing your personal details)

He's 15

Oh wow!
Means you got a good leadership in your home, ha
Can someone tell me what does "seen $x$ s ago" mean? because many times it shows seen as 15 seconds ago but the person isn't actually there

it would be nice if there is a labor server.

9:47 AM
how do you drive ants?
I think obscene men should be sent to provide labor service.

Obscene in what sense?

in harassing others in an offensive way.

I cannot understand the context of that picture above.

I guess that's because you are not a woman.

are you desiring to provide labor service, @CaptainBohemian?

9:55 AM
@MattE.Эллен no, and I think obscene should be sent to do labor service.
our world has too much labor lacking people to do.

@Knight it's a pun.

and there are too many obscene men harassing others.

@Knight "causing offence" means upsetting someone

@CaptainBohemian Yes I’m not a woman, but you’re also not a woman (please don’t take it offiensive) But you’re understanding it. (Sorry if due to ignorance and bad communication I sounded unfriendly)

@Knight I am not a man.

9:57 AM
@MattE.Эллен “In case they cause a fence” did you mean “offense” at last.
@CaptainBohemian You’re a woman? Oh My God! When you said you hated teachers I could never guess a girl could ever do that

@Knight no, that's the pun. the fence posts are being removed so a fence is not made, i.e a fence is not caused.
offence and "a fence" sound the same, hence the joke

@MattE.Эллен What does “posts” refer to ?

fence posts

@Knight our teachers beat both male and female students severely without discrimination.

@MattE.Эллен Post = Woman
???

10:00 AM
???
no

@CaptainBohemian But your views are very radical, I’m proud that I have met a woman like you. Otherwise, women tend to have liberal view.
@MattE.Эллен I request you, please explain the pun once more.

@Knight also, in junior high school, our female math teacher is really a psycho who likes to beat a male student's hip particularly.

@CaptainBohemian Oh Kay! The posts refer to the holes in the picture ?

she is also a sadist, I think because she took her pleasure in beating students.
@Knight which hole? in your avatar?

@CaptainBohemian No, the picture

10:06 AM
so, on the world wide web, where we are chatting, especially on Stack Exchange sites, people write posts, e.g. questions and answers, which are sometimes deleted because they are offensive. So you might say "These posts have been removed in case they cause offence", which is to say, posts on SE have been deleted in case they offend someone.
A pun is a play on words where a sentence (or sentences) is constructed that sounds like one thing but means another.
So in the picture CowperKettle showed us, fence posts are being removed. The reason given for the removal is so that a fence is not caus

Okay
Now, how it relates to woman and their harassment ?

it does not

Okay :-)
Means that picture and Capitan were talking about different things?

Thanks Matt

10:10 AM
no worries

If your nickname is Matt and then will your original name gonna Matthew ?

:D

10:24 AM
@Xanne and @Cerberus yes, that's what the gesture means. But we already know that. The quesiton is, what is the gesture called.
If someone shows us a GIF of a Ford Mustang and asks what to call it, "vehicle" is not a good answer.
Even though it is 100% correct.

Hi, quick question.
What is the english term used when you pay an imported product from a foreign country at arrive at your location?

the name of the charge paid for having a product imported and delivered to you? Or do you want a verb?

2:26 PM
I mean, something like "Paid at Arrive: $100" or "Arrive payment: $100"

2:40 PM
I'm afraid I don't know what "paid at arrive" is meant to mean.
perhaps the American term "shipping and handling"?

@EnderLook In the US it's called 'COD' for Cash On Delivery. This is if you pay when it arrives to the delivery person, not at time of ordering (like is usual with internet purchases).,
It doesn't matter whether it is foreign or local, just the timing of the payment.

Is there an idiom or proverb that means "conduct business in an open and transparent way so as to avoid suspicions of cheating or dishonesty"?
What I wanted to say is "keep your cards above the table".
And I'd probably be understood if I said that; the metaphor is reasonably clear.
But that particular metaphor doesn't seem to be common. I wonder if there's a common one.

@Mitch Yes, that one. Thanks

@TerranSwett "show all your cards"?
but there is a very slight hint that you were suspicious before and hiding them.

3:03 PM
Well, that sounds like it means turning your cards face up.
Sometimes it's important to keep your cards above the table and close to your best :D

4:00 PM
do we use singular verb or plural verb for "twin"?

4:36 PM
@CaptainBohemian One twin is one person, and uses a singular verb. Two twins are two people, and they use a plural verb.
"Those two people are twins. That twin is wearing a blue hat and that twin is wearing a red hat. Both twins are wearing orange shirts."

@TerranSwett There's the expression "above board" that's very common. Usually in the form "open and above board."

3 hours later…
7:43 PM
@TerranSwett Also the term transparent, used in politics also.

7:58 PM
@RegDwigнt Maybe it has no verb or noun. I am familiar with thumbs-up, the bird, the three-finger (or maybe it’s two) salute. Anyway, it’s Till Lindmann, I think his name is, singer for the Remmstein band, but no doubt you knew that.

8:14 PM
It's not about what it is, it's about what it can become.

@RegDwigнt Gestures, a list: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_gestures
Nothing applies.
