I would suggest that you use the word do for emphasis in that case. Looking at TFD Online, we see that do is Used as a means of emphasis: I do want to be sure. You can put that emphasis in a couple of places. Behind me comes a certain voice I do remember ... or Behind me do...

Frankly, some things are just too hard to try to translate word for word and even if there were emphasis in the original, it's no big loss to leave it out. (to render it accurately might take too many more words and a whole rewrite.
