EduardLooking for an adjective for defining the activities that enhance or require high motor skills (neurosurgery, jewelry-making). Your thought on this appreciated, in an English language perspective:
It's a meta IPS question of mine.

user Black and White make a big mistake when he/she tagged my question as a duplicate of one about foreign words. mine applies only to english words that have multiple pronunciations i.e. status, privicy, pedophile, etc.
privacy not privicy
so why is my question about english words being tagged as a duplicate of a question regarding foreign words from other languages, i.e. a french word being pronounced in English like foyer, when I actually am referring to english words in english speaking coutnries like status in Canada vs. South Africa and how the US or Uk influence the way they are pronounced.
i'm logging out of chat, but Black and White it's not a duplicate because it's not foreign words from othe rlanguages I'm dealnig with.

Q: An single word describing a person who is desperate for love/approval, who "comes running" if someone gives the smallest hint of being interested

user260037I really hope someone here can help me! I´m looking for an expression, preferably a single word, that describes a person who is desperate for approval/affirmation/love, and who therefore feels compelled to respond positively to every indication of (romantic) interest from other people regardless ...

Hi, I'm translating a technical report from german to english. There is a section called "Weiteres". "Weiteres" translates to more or others. In german such sections often contain different information that tie some loose ends from the sections before, give some additional information or make some remarks etc. How would you name it in english? More doesn't sound right...
18:31
@Felix.C Could be 'Other' or 'Miscellaneous'.
Or 'Other Considerations', depending on context.
@Cerberus Miscellaneous was the word I was looking for..thanks!!!
18:50
@Felix.C Good!
I was looking for long walks on the beach, but "miscellaneous" will have to do.
19:07
@MetaEd what about other considerations? Like piña coladas? Are you into champagne?
It's gotta be one or the other. DOnt mix the grape and the grain
@TheCat-alyst you mentioned foreign in your question, that's possibly why it was marked as a duplicate. Maybe you should remove that if you don't want to confuse the issue.
19:36
@Mitch No, no, not champagne, more like French colonists of North America.

Q: Is there a verb that describes the act of being healthy?

Dan P.Is there a verb that describes the act of being healthy (exercising, eating well, etc.)? Preferably a single word

I get no kick from champagne.
19:48
@MetaEd Mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all, unless it's high proof, but then I have weird dreams and I'm all stuffy in the morning.
@MetaEd Les Quebecois? Les Arcadiens? Les Alsaciens? Les Huguenots?
@Mitch All I need is one of your smiles.
Tabarnache de Sacramento! Qu'est-ce que tu dis?
@MetaEd For one of yours, I'd walk a million miles
Eh? Maude tabarnak! Père de la Nouvelle-France!
@MetaEd Sorry to be on-topic but don't you think that was a little brusque, deleting the 'master's answer'? You're not wrong, it's just... so old and highly voted (not that those are actual reasons to keep). Is this a way of encouraging an actual authoritative answer?
Also I don't know of any french colonists that sound remotely like Champagne.
@Felix.C There are many ways that this could come out. 'Notes' might be a discussion of some minor points but is more likely to be the collection of what would otherwise be footnotes. 'Appendix' or 'Addendum' is an extra section that is not central. 'Remarks' would be a reasonable chapter title at the end that would fit free-form multiple non-central discussion.
@MetaEd Also, re 'masters', if you delete that one then you'd have to delete almost the entire corpus of Josh's answers. Letter of the law doing so would also not be wrong but would be disruptive.
20:25
@Mitch Samuel de Champlain, Père de la Nouvelle-France.
@Mitch We're talking spirit of the law here, actually. SE staff have been very clear that reputation is critical to SE working as it should and unearned reputation is a problem.
20:43
@Mitch I haven't done a comprehensive review of either user's output, but I just did a pseudo-random spot check of a few Josh answers and didn't see a problem.
@MetaEd Oh. I never knew that.
Not to say that I couldn't have missed something. I just opened a few and found fair use, proper quoting, and attribution.
@MetaEd Sure, he's never claimed any of the cut and paste as his own. But the point is that almost all his answers are almost all cut and paste, with minimal intro. Little value add.
Plagiarism is plagiarism, but I didn't think that was the issue at the moment. I thought it was cut and paste answers.
@MetaEd Hey, what Stack site/room was that user able to ping me from? Was it an EL&U one?
20:58
@MetaEd Not worried particularly, but can't find that chatroom on the EL&U list or literature's (I'm not a member there), or META's. So am interested, and would like to avoid similar in future.
@Mitch What answer was this?
Hiii
@Felix.C Try "See also ..."
That's how I always translated Weiteres for myself.
So ... we need gun control and we need it badly. And what do the Republicans offer? Prayers. That is literally the least they could do.
21:15
I read about the concert shooting on Wikipedia.
Hello.
Ah, yes, that was quite horrible.
Did the shooter have a licence for his most damaging guns?
21:54
It is improperly quoted
22:14
@Mitch Those are the same issue.
@Araucaria My guess would be from here:
From there, I don't know. "Start a new room with this user" seems likely.
@MetaEd I never knew people had trouble finding rooms, lol.
@Jasper Well, there's the "yimby" movement.
That was in my news feed today.
@Mitch Thanks.
I've flagged it.
> I don't feel that this answer merits deletion. The reason why the quotation is not marked as clearly as it should be is obvious: nested quotations. Although it is slightly ambiguous this way, the poster does mention that what follows is from the article. The answer can be fixed through a quick edit, not by deleting the entire (useful) answer.
@Robusto It's worse than that. Arguably mass murder gets the divine sanction, so prayer, if effectual, will only escalate things.
22:30
@M.A.R. OK. I was just marveling the swift passage of time.
@Cerberus I get that the answer is helpful. But it's a perfect example of what SE doesn't want on their property, even if the quoting is fixed. It's someone else's article posted here without permission. Except the one sentence at the top, which isn't even an answer.
I've left your flag raised and asked other mods to weigh in.
@MetaEd At worst, you could remove everything but keep the link.
Now you've created serious link rot.
@Cerberus Yes, considered that. Leave the first sentence, basically. And then it's Not An Answer. Which is why I didn't.
Now you've removed useful information from the Internet at large after seven years.
Maybe the original article is not so easy to get at through a Google search.

Q: A word or phrase for when someone who is highly respected and thought well of, doesn't meet those expectations

ArmedI'm looking for a word or phrase that describes the effect of when someone is over-hyped, and when they don't meet expectations, they're criticised much harsher than they would have been if they weren't over-hyped. I hope this makes sense

22:40
The author of the article may now be deprived of his income.
People won't click through to his article now.
And/or his ranking in Google's search results will plummet.
Whom is this helping, exactly?
Suppose the article was not posted at SE, but was published in an academic journal. You could make the same argument, but maybe in that situation it's easier to see who this is helping.
But I have to head home. Let's see what other mods have to say.
@MetaEd Thanks Ed.
22:56
@MetaEd hat's the 'yimby' movement? 'yes in my back yard'? but in what context?
