5:00 AM
@Vitaly I haven't lost yet on that using Tab Lancex10

Hi!
This was a really cool and easy to use program. Why don't we have such great software anymore?

I saw a really good movie tonight.

Again?

What do you mean?
The last one I saw was garbage.
I have been seeing more movies than usual, though.

Oh.

5:03 AM
I never buy snacks at the movies though.

Memory is a tricky beast.

Indeed. You have three heads, it must get confusing sometimes.
I assume all of your heads have fully functioning brains.

Well...let's say they all function at various speeds at various times.
Hi!

Hey @Cerberus

5:08 AM
So what was this film you have seen?
@AmithKK That looks just like Mahnax there!

@Cerberus Its a bot :D

Oh? What does it do?

@AmithKK It's me!
@Cerberus Safe House.

 FlackBot

Experiment with FlackBot by chatting with him.

And what's so good about it?
@AmithKK Hmm and you are friends with it?

5:12 AM
That flackbot wouldn't talk to me.

That's it, I'm out. Work tomorrow. Laterz.

Bye!

@Robusto cya
@Mahnax Pythonista?

@AmithKK Meh.
I'm teaching it to myself.
Slooowly.

@Mahnax Help Code Flacky for us :D

5:16 AM
@AmithKK Oh man, I barely know any Python.
I'd be straight up useless.

I did make a rather effective trig calculator though.

A review of Apple's thinnest computer.

@Cerberus You know that's a joke, right?

You already know it?
Too bad.

5:18 AM
Yes.

He is pretty good.

Yeah, I found myself laughing throughout.

People might fall for it until he complains about taking out the battery "every day".

Hahaha, yeah.

But the beginning clearly shows it is a spoof already: people who buy Macs will always like their computers, or they wouldn't buy them.

5:19 AM
Exactly!

There exist no people who have just bought a Mac and not liked it.

Woah, what?

Have you ever heard of any?

No. But I'm surprised to hear you say that.

I AM A UBUNTU!

5:20 AM
I mean, they've just spent, what, 1500 dollars on this thing, so you can't possibly dislike it.

@AmithKK Do you like it?

Hi Ubu!

Of course :D

@Mahnax No, and that's why I'm not willing to spend that much money on a computer.
The two go together.

Hey @GeorgeEdison
@Mahnax Meet the creator of Flacky

5:21 AM
I like Linux. In theory.

@Cerberus Wasn't talkin' to ya.
Hi @George!

@Mahnax Yep

@Mahnax Dammit! Haha.

@Mahnax Hello.

SO MANY PINGS.
Your Flackbot gave me flack, @George.

5:23 AM
It's still a work in progress.

It's cool though.

Thank you.

Hi.

BBL :D

Bye!

5:25 AM
cya guys around

Visit any time.

16 hours ago, by Robusto
It should be renamed "Women Expect Compensation For Sex Day" ...
This seems innapropriate

@AmithKK If that offends you, then don't read the transcript.
Heh.
Okay, I need to study a little, I'll be back later.

@Mahnax cya

@AmithKK Inappropriate for what?

5:32 AM
@Cerberus s*x
I'm thirteen

Inappropriate for sex?
Well, do you have a problem with people using the word?

yes
:D Sorta

Why?

It might get StackExchange Banned here

SE banned?

5:33 AM
Where?

@GeorgeEdison It was done once
@Cerberus In my ISP's Under13 script

@AmithKK What was?
Ooooooooh.

just no more of that word till next month :DASPD

That is unfortunate, but we cannot give in to any kind of censorship.

:D NP

5:34 AM
@AmithKK So your ISP actually blocks certain websites?? In what country are you?
And how does it know your age?

@Cerberus Im Still in the Under 13 filter

Those are very good questions.
@AmithKK Er... don't you need to be 13+ to use SE?

Sorry, but I have no idea what such a filter is. Nothing like it exists here.

@GeorgeEdison I am 13
For the filter to disable, You need to be 14

Then what is this about under 13?

5:36 AM
Its the filter's name
not well implemented

@AmithKK And your ISP is doing this?

Ah, you are in India.

@GeorgeEdison Nope, Its an Intermediate

I suggest you use some kind of proxy, then.

I could breamk it if I want

5:37 AM
Unless you have no problem with the filter,

Using a VPN
(Which I have)

Exactly.
You still haven't told us how the ISP knows you are 13.

Wait... an intermediate?

Wait A second
THIS IS FEBRUARY
I can disable it
BRB

I don't get it... what does February have to do with it?
It's only blocking stuff on odd-numbered months?

5:39 AM
@GeorgeEdison No
This thing only needs to be enfforced till January

@GeorgeEdison When the Harvest Moon doth shine

Deactivating||.......

@Cerberus It's like a younger Sonic. I don't know if I can handle two.

@simchona Hey Sonic ? :D
I love sonic

@simchona See, now it would have been convenient if you spoke Latin.

5:41 AM
@Cerberus French?

Best language to gossip in!

Best language to...I would say flirt but I know that ain't gonna fly

Suus a Latin locus?

Sorry, that's not Latin.
That's incomprehensible.

Je pense qu'il a utilise un service de Google

C'est bien possible.

@simchona sic

5:45 AM
"Sic" n'est pas un mot

C'est un mot en Latin.
"So".

A moins que nous ecrirons

"Thus".

ನನ್ನ ಸರದಿ!

Arms self with Translation Abilities

@AmithKK *Abilities

@simchona Peut-être...

5:52 AM
@Cerberus J'y suis
Hi @Theta30

Hi simchona

Happy Valentine's Day

hehe
you too

Or, as someone put it earlier
16 hours ago, by Robusto
It should be renamed "Women Expect Compensation For Sex Day" ...

what is sex day?

6:01 AM
Hi.

aah i got it

This one is quite funny.
Apple's voice-recognition bot talking to her sister.

I tried to set up voice recognition
in windows 7
you dont know but it has it

I think a lot of Windows recent rollouts had it as part of handicap access

simchona do you study computer science?
@Cerberus I thought that is related to Valentine's Day

6:07 AM
@Theta30 I do.
Hi @Mahnax!

@simchona Hi!

@Mahnax We found a new Sonic. I'm not super excited.

@simchona You did?
Where?

@Mahnax Here. Read the transcript up a bit

@simchona Okay.
Ahh, him.
I was chatting with him earlier.

6:10 AM
Ah.

Hmm, nobody will follow my proposal on A51.
I guess nobody speaks Finnish around here.

Nope

your proposal might die out

Probably.
I was so looking forward to a site with blue and white colours.

ah it reminds me of winter sports winners

6:14 AM
Hahaha.

with weird names
but nice

Finnish names are unique.

I would just eat it, no time for that

Hahaha.
It's apple art.

@simchona do you have a website?

6:42 AM
@Theta30 No, I don't program for the web or have a portfolio or anything

@Mahnax Unique how?

@DavidWallace Well, I've heard some Finnish names that I haven't heard anywhere else.

Couldn't you say that about names in any language?

Yes.
I find Finnish names to be especially interesting, but maybe that's just me.

Because Finnish is so unlike other European languages (apart from the two that it's related to)?

6:50 AM
Two?
This is news. I thought it was just one.

Hungarian and Estonian?

Hungarian?
Hm..

And there are probably some dialects of each of those; I don't really know these languages.

Finnish is relatively the same everywhere because it's so concentrated.

@Theta30 Oh! And does it work well on 7?
Hello Dave, Bob!

6:52 AM
@Cerberus Hi, again.

I've got an odd feeling I don't want to click that triangle. Is it just me, or does the android logo look kind of like a big booger?
2

@Cerberus Where do you find this stuff?

@Mahnax Yeah, that would make sense.

@DavidWallace I mean, there's only a handful of people that speak it, compared to something like English, Spanish, Chinese, etc.

@Cerberus typing words does not work. But giving windows and browser commands works if you have patience.

6:55 AM
Sure, but take Serbian/Bosnian/Croatian. Only about 15 million speakers, in a reasonably small geographic area; but there are about 50 dialects all up.

Huh, interesting.
Another factor that may affect things is how rigid Finnish pronunciation seems to be.

How so?

In English, letters tend to have many pronunciations. In Finnish, there is usually only one pronunciation per letter.

Likewise in Serb/Bos/Cro. Except for R, which can be vowel or consonant.

Hmm, that is interesting.

6:58 AM
I mean that Serb/Bos/Cro is like Finnish and Spanish; unlike English and French.

@Mahnax In a box in the attic?

@Cerberus I think you should stay out of that attic, it's getting weird.

@Theta30 Ah OK. Well, I never understood the benefits of voice-recognition anyway except for typing.

I am curled up in an easy chair, with my laptop at an odd angle. Some inaccurate typing is inevitable.

@Mahnax Why!

6:59 AM
Well, I'm off to sleep. Nice chatting with you all.
@DavidWallace Fair enough.

Night!

Good night.

@Cerberus I have a feeling that tomorrow I will come in here and find that Shog has frozen this room permanently for getting dangerously off topic.
2
Anyhow, night!

Who's Shog?

@Cerberus you must have seen Star Trek....Pour me a glass of water....Done!

7:02 AM
@Mahnax He might!
But I think he will be friendlier now that his master has gone.
@DavidWallace This guy who works at Stack Exchange.

I had a collegue who use a remote control for the computer and that was 9 years ago

He closed our one of our favourite chat rooms in which we discussed a game we were all playing, all of a sudden after six months.
@Theta30 Yeah, well, have you ever noticed how incredibly inefficient their use of computers is?

Did he lose the game?

@DavidWallace If only! Then there would have been some reason.
No, it was "policy".

Censorship?

7:05 AM
No: the room was private, that means the transcript was not public.
And not everyone could join.
We needed that, because the game involves faction wars against other people.

Why would SE provide rooms like that?
</devilsadvocate>

Because we have a faction with mainly people from this site.
And because it is what we like, and why not foster community spirit?
If you play the game, you're welcome to join!
War Metal Tyrant
A card-battle game.

OK. I guess I don't have my head around how SE pays for itself.

I wonder whether they are making money.
But one little chat room isn't going to cost them more than maybe one cent a month...

If they were losing money, wouldn't someone just pull the plug on the whole network?

7:08 AM
Yes.
Or milk it for cash, somehow.
Sell it to some investor, put advertisements everywhere until the number of visitors dwindles and it dies.
I wonder what their business plan is.

So how can it possibly exist?

I should like to know that too!

AFK about 10 mins.

OK.

I'm back, can't sleep.
Oh well.

7:30 AM
Well he didn't stay long!
Maybe the US government funds it, or something, because it's beneficial to the IT industry.
(the SE network, not Mahnax's beauty sleep)

Beauty sleep, pfft.
Right now, it's hurting my survival sleep.

7:46 AM
Or maybe there's some benevolent billionaire involved.

why does it matter?
wikipedia works and is free

It would be nice to know that it's not going to get sold to some investor who's going to kill it off.
(Forgive me if I said that twice, I'm having connectivity issues)
Or maybe they're going to switch it off and publish all the Q's and A's in some giant-arse book.

Good point, Well enjoy it as it lasts :)
It has about 2 years already
And there were no major modifications
which I like at it
Some QA sites "renew" themselves and end up dead

Really only two years? I thought it was heaps older.
I'm sure I've seen questions on SO that are older than that.
Maybe I imagined it.
Also, isn't wikipedia always running out of money?

8:03 AM
Hi!
Wikipedia is a foundation, with statutes and all.
It can't be sold.
It really is a great website.

@DavidWallace right, at least 3 and 1/2 years

Wikipedia is more than ten years old.
Or were you talking about SE?

yes, about SE

Ah OK.
Yeah, I don't know.
I imagine Joel has some money of his old, and they probably collected plenty of cash from investors.

night

8:09 AM
I meant SE
But if wikipedia had ads, it would still be a great site. Possibly even better than it is now.
Because they could pay professional researchers.

Hmm why would they need those?
@Theta30 Night!
I am very, very glad that Wiki doesn't have any more ads than it already has.
The ones on top are very annoying.

I manage to tune them out.
And I have yet to buy into the philosophy that a large community can do a better job of providing good information than a small number of professionals.
SE is a case in point. If somebody asks a question and gets two contradictory answers, how can they know which is true? Somebody's numeric reputation isn't necessarily a good indicator of their ability to provide accurate answers; and the community votes don't always go the way they should

True.
But Wikipedia isn't as much based on quantity as SE.
There are in fact a few professionals who guard certain articles in their field and maintain their quality.
I mean, if you had asked me ten years ago, I would have said, "I have no idea: Wikipedia may not work at all; it may dissolve into chaos".
But time has proven that it works quite well.
Several tests have been organized in which professionals compared Wikipedia articles with articles from the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

Yeah, I guess WPedia and SE are two different animals. And I AM aware of all the studies showing that WPedia is as good as or better than a "professional" encyclopedia like Britannia.

It turned out that Wiki was almost as good, and that was several years ago.
Jinx!
Well, then isn't that proof that it works fairly well?
I was talking about "approved versions" with Reg earlier.

8:25 AM
It relies on the people who want to maintain the site being the same ones who have the expertise.
And the absencce of vandals.

I think that's the future: of each Wiki article, there will be a peer-reviewed version with a stamp of approval. It may be old, but it will have been checked, as opposed to the current version, which could contain mistakes.

Yeah, that sounds good.

So there are always two versions you can check: the approved version and the current one.

And it should be the approved one that shows up in search engines, so that when Jo Citizen googles something he/she gets what's appropriate.

Perhaps.
As long as people know the difference.

8:28 AM
Doesn't matter. People editing pages will be served the latest version, approved or otherwise.
Good night.

Night!

1 hour later…
9:46 AM
I see George got trolled real fine last night.
And to think that the starred line about bloempz was originally about vaginas... umpossible!

10:14 AM
Was it??
I had no idea.

Of course. Obviously Matt provided the actual meaning of the word, not this nonsense.
But then Vit said that it was a riddle for you, so we reworded.

Hello

Ohh I never entered that into my mental notebook, because I didn't know what it was about at the time of utterance.
Hi!

What is your time now?

10:22 AM
You're six hours behind me. I thought it's early morning at Netherlands .
Wrong person, I thought you were @Cerberus , lol.
Where do you live?

That's Cerberus's time.

10:37 AM
Yours too, innit?

innit - is this formal word?

No, on the contrary!
It is slang for "isn't it?".

11:26 AM

Q: Could the order of words in the common question be changed?

GangnusExamples (somebody is thinking about some thoughts, said by the devil): Maybe he is right... Or isn't he? Maybe he is right... Or he isn't? Maybe he is right... Or even to doubt in his falsehood would be a mistake? Maybe he is right... Or would it be a mistake even to doubt in his false...

Too localized IMHO.
So many mistakes, not only grammatical but also logical.
