I think one of the big reasons is that the Jews still use scrolls, which are more inconvenient to manufacture than books.

@Jasper It is not totally inaccurate to say that the first five books of the old Testament of the Christian bible is the Jewish Torah.

Where Kings and Samuel and Eclesiastes and the prophets fall is another question.

But where Jews get 'approved' Torah scrolls and such just aren't sold in your average bookstore, but like Christian or Islamic publishers, have there own means of distribution .
