Though if you can throw some light on why xyz is the answer, you might write it up as an answer of your own (often the OP is still in the dark and/or doesn't give any explanation beyond "it worked")
On the personal attacks... apologies I will pull my head in. Need to stop checking the voting record of users as it disappoints me no end. Considering a rant on the "why does no one vote meta" or a "do i vote too much" question
@gandalf3 If they answer themselves and edit question can UV both, then they can vote is my take on this. (oops getting on the no voting soapbox again)
I mean, it's understandable that the users who hang about looking for questions to answer are going to be in the minority; most who come by are looking to solve their own problem. I'm actually pretty impressed at how many people stick around and try and answer even just a few questions as well
Also there's like a 15 reputation minimum for voting (iirc), so often super new users can't vote
In some ways I like how reddit does it, where they hide all the anti-vote-gaming machinery behind the scenes so it at least feels like your vote counts
what I consider my best answers have at best 1 or 2 votes
as mentioned previously if you start looking at voting behaviour some is gobsmacking
The other one that gets my goat is ignorance. Where you get 0 votes 0 comments, then they're onto the next question using my answer... .. moving into rant mode lol
yeah.. I feel like we should have a room where we link posts where stuff like that happens so other users can inform them about accepting and upvoting (always feels weird to me to do it on my own answer)
This is what I would like to see re CoC sure keep the be nice to new contributors, but seems there is nothing prodding them on how site works.. eg "thankyou for this answer, works perfectly" comment ... no accept no votes. I recall you mentioned you don't like "begging" for votes, feel the same. Perhaps it is a necessary evil.
If you accept why not upvote. Whereas (to me) upvoting someone who has taken time to answer seems like good manners. Accept the best answer when it is apparent.
I would change system to let multiple answers be accepted.
As unfortunately the big green tick brings it into the realm of right and wrong.. philosophically
@gandalf3 I will second that (and stared it). I am guilty of that from time to time. we all really should be careful, and think twice before bashing a post.
@gandalf3 Oh I can absolutely see that point of view. When I first joined Sci-Fi, they closed my first question. I deleted it and never went back to that site for a very, very long time.
@gandalf3 hmm. so the FAA would not give permission quick enough. so they switched to auto delivery tunnel drones. A bit more costly, and will take a few decades to roll out, but the FAA can't stop you underground!
creature with exhaust pipes.. kind of reminds me of Half Life 2 synth
Cool mockup, Amazon is going to hire you. In the meantime receiving packages will turn into a horrifying parade of nightmarish bizarre delivery slave creature
