I like ncmcpp's UI more than cmus (seems more customizable, cmus was very locked in on "album > artist > track" kind of hierarchy, but I want something more like "genre > composer > track")
Plus mpd itself seems more flexible for custom scripting purposes (e.g. for something like this)
Only problem is it's actually called ncmpcpp

My only complaint is that mpd doesn't seem to recognize custom metadata (or even everything in the ID3v2 spec, despite claiming support for it!?)
e.g. "Orchestra" or "Conductor" aren't picked up :/
Then again, I never got around to attempting to filter anything by metadata in cmus
Plus I find the default keybinds *slightly* more intuitive in ncmpcpp (p for pause, not c!)
Some things are still on the "remap that when I get around to it" list though, e.g. "insert" for select
Come to think of it, the only thing I found remotely vim-like in cmus was movement
