12:13 AM
@X-27 so you down or no?

12:32 AM
@iKlsR, @CharlesL, @David, @ideasman42, @gandalf3 It's been a while! How's this community coming along? Wow, so many memories.

1:00 AM
o/

@DanielPendergast Two of those people haven't been seen in a while :P
(ideasman and charles)

VRM
1:50 AM
@GiantCowFilms Managers and other leadership roles pay way better and will always be in demand :)

2:26 AM
@DanielPendergast oh wow. it has been a while. good to see you around.
BSE is doing great. a lot of LQish questions from noobs, and even more unanswered; but we are doing very well.

15 hours later…
5:35 PM
<why the silence?>

@Rahul2001 People not really having much to say...
It's sad...
This room used to be super awesome and active

@TARDISMaker I do seem to recall that it was more active when I dropped in a few times last year and before that...

Yeah
Mostly people are more busy now

VRM
For example I'm 1.5hrs behind on my work day already . . . RIP

Meh, I got my first job today
It was... weird, to say the very least

VRM
5:38 PM
Congrats!

Thanks :)
Someone paid me USD 10 to create a calculator for a vaping website :P

VRM
haha
It's all up from here I guess lol

They saw one on a website, asked me to create something identical :P

VRM
That's a bit for $10 tbh
They got a good deal

Yeah, they did
But to build a reputation on the website you need to start low

VRM
5:41 PM
yeah
You using Indeed/Upwork or what?

I'll see if they offer a bonus though, that'd be nice
@VRM Upwork

o/. hola people. qué tal?

VRM
Me too

@VRM Cool! How's your experience been on it?

VRM
Very good so far, only really gotten one gig but it's long-term
the 5% cut is annoying but understandable

5:43 PM
@VRM Yeah, $10 is definately pretty low...
Maybe not for just html + css, but once you get the rest of the logic in, it's probably worth more than twice that...

i make $10 for cleaning greasetraps at restaraunts...

@TARDISMaker It was mostly copying JS from another site and recoloring, so I don't actually mind if I get a decent review/rating
Took under an hour

@Rahul2001 So cheating :P
But sure

@TARDISMaker No, they said they wanted something "identical"

VRM
Ah, that makes it more reasonable. Work smarter, not harder as they say lol

5:45 PM
@Rahul2001 Sure, I'm mostly joking

Man, I really need to learn bootstrap properly though, looks like a lot of people are paying decent amounts for responsive websites...
@TARDISMaker ;p

@Rahul2001 I don't like bootstrap...
I find it to be a pain to use

@TARDISMaker Neither do I, but it's in demand

But the question is can you do the same thing that bootstrap does from scratch?

VRM
I used to be pretty good at web development, gotten old and rusty on that subject though

5:47 PM
@TARDISMaker Yeah... I just use CSS smartly + veiwport to deliver perfect mobile interfaces
@TARDISMaker I can, but I don't think these people will accept it, and it's more work anyway...

Okay, not the kind of people I want to work with then...

In all honesty, I prefer backend PHP, or Windows scripting

I feel like doing it from scratch would be more worth it

VRM
There are a lot of places where the people in charge of the money don't understand the project, so there are a ton of arbitrary rules you need to work around

@TARDISMaker It is if it's your own website, you often end up with something that performs way better
But the effort isn't worth the amount these guys are willing to pay
@VRM exactly

5:49 PM
Forcing yourself to use bootstrap is really just going to make the site slower and bigger
Okay
As I already said, not the type of people I want to work for

Yeah, me neither, but I could do with the funds, so I'm willing to do work as long as the guys aren't too picky

Okay, sure

> Need an experienced web developer to work on a marketplace similar to etsy.com, redbubble.com and a bit of eBay/amazon

Budget: $5
:/

That is not practical in any way
Especially when you say experienced...

VRM
@Rahul2001 hahahahahaha
$5 for 5 minutes of advice maybe

5:54 PM
^^

;p
Also, I fail to understand why people design websites in Photoshop.

@Rahul2001 As opposed to what?
Sketch?
HTML + CSS?

Uh, you got me there
But... idk, people who don't do WebDev shouldn't be designing the website anyway...

Design is hard
I think that Designers should have some understanding of web technologies, but should specialize in it

@TARDISMaker Agreed

6:01 PM
But developers absolutely should not be designing websites
At least when there are enough resources to hire a proper designer
For smaller scale things it's okay

Hm. Fair enough

See, we care too much about how easy it is :P

VRM
@Rahul2001 Web design and web development are completely distinct disciplines

Designers try to make it easy to navigate and use

VRM
A designer should be designing, and they like photoshop :)

6:03 PM
And then on top of it make it look nice

lol, fair enough :)

VRM
Also it is actually very well fitted with tools that help with quick UI prototyping in my experience
There are other ways, but it is pretty common

Yeah
Sketch is gaining a lot of traction though
But they need to branch off of OSX

VRM
yup

@Rahul2001 btw, have you tried other backend platforms?
Like ruby or node?

6:05 PM
@TARDISMaker Have been planning to, but haven''t gotten around to it yet

Okay

Done a bit of python+Django

Okay, sure
I've meant to look at that, but I've been happy enough with node
I used PHP for a little while, but then I switched to node and it felt like a breath of fresh air
(btw, a disclaimer, I'm literally a 16 year old in my parents basement)
(So when I talk like I know what I'm talking about, I probably know a lot less than I might try to sound like I know :P)

@TARDISMaker I remember, I'm the same age, just don't have a basement... :)
@TARDISMaker Very true for me too :P

Awesome, glad we're on the same page :D

6:10 PM
@TARDISMaker i thought you were 17 now

@Scalia Nope
I've got almost a year to go first :P

oh! ok
aw you're just a wee fetus. :)

idk how much it means coming from me (lol) but at least online, you act very mature. gj

6:29 PM
what should be the objective of the game. i have the interchangeable head script up and running

Goodnight folks :)

6:47 PM
@Scalia Yeah, people seem to think that about me in person too
Who can blame them, my voice dropped dramatically when I was like 11
I went to summer camp, got a cold, my voice got scratchy, and seemed to lower, and then it never got higher again...
:P
@Scalia Idk...

7:08 PM
@TARDISMaker weird. I wonder why that happened

VRM
@TARDISMaker be thankful it dropped at all, lots of buff dudes have the most immature sounding voices. It's hilarious

@VRM :D
Yeah
It was fun being the most mature sounding 11 year old around me... :P

VRM
haha

@Scalia I think I just hit puberty really early
I was taller than most kids my age until like two years ago
And now I'm a few inches shorter than most of them

VRM
RIP
I'm already about as tall as I want to be, six feet plus a few inches is the max comfortable height imo

7:18 PM
That's where I want to be
I'm about 5'8" right now...
I need to grow at least four inches, hopeful six...
:P

VRM
you have a good chance, 5+ years of growing

yeah, but why would it stay scratchy after your cold?
@VRM heÅ› 16? i dont think he's gonna be growing till he's 21 lol

VRM
Do some research

i think i stopped growing around 17...

VRM
As fast, yes. You usually gain another inch or so in the years from 18 to 21

7:21 PM
height wise at least
@VRM oh
hmmm

@Scalia No, it didn't stay scratchy, my voice just didn't change back

ok
@TARDISMaker ah
i was thinking you had a voice that permanantly sounded like a cold

Okay
It probably did for a little while
Partially because I still looked like an 11 year old... :P

3 hours later…
10:52 PM
@VRM how tall are you? 6 ft on the dot

11:03 PM
move with wasd to one of the tings and right click on it

11:34 PM
does anyon know if its normal to be unable to enter negative values for scale in the uv editor when snapping is enabled or is that a bug?
