My take is that downvoting without a comment is pointless
3

@cegaton exactly since he is new we should explain what's happening

12:26 AM
@Chebhou @cegaton Your votes are yours to do as you see fit. However, we want to keep quality content on the site. If a question is poorly constructed, get it off the front page until it is fixed.
These types of questions also tend to incite lengthy discussions and welcome non-definitive answers. Choosing to leave a comment is optional as well tho it would be nice in cases where users are new as compared to others cough Blender-D.., a downvote says "this was a poorly researched or asked question".

@iKlsR I agree but my concern is also keeping the site from feeling too judgemental...

@cegaton Totally agree
Bad stuff should be removed, just explain why

@cegaton I know what you mean but we are already rather lenient. Votes can be reversed, questions reopened etc.

We are creating a giant archive that will be useful for years to come hopefully.

12:33 AM
@iKlsR I think of SO . . . they are rather DV ready
:P
Too much so
I think B.SE has a good balance

Unfinished stuff should take a quick timeout until it is presentable. I can't help on the voting aspect, reputation is pretty harmless and as I said, a downvote sends a clear message that you messed up somewhere. Fix it and come again.

Could be stronger maybe, I just really think we should explain why we DV
@iKlsR Good point

@NoviceInDisguise We do, but there are a couple thousand more users who don't. Nothing to be done about that.
Ignore reputation for a second and think about why voting exists, it's to separate quality content from poorly worded or vague questions, if after downvoting, the question isn't closed or fixed, you can always retract the vote. — iKlsR ♦ Oct 10 '14 at 19:51
Sure, leave helpful comments where possible and ultimately, it's up to you to decide if a post merits a vote or not. However, adopting a don't downvote posts from new users strategy is a bad idea and in the long run it's our site and stats that will suffer. — iKlsR ♦ Oct 10 '14 at 20:45

Ah! Those are some good points!
@cegaton iKlsR has persuaded me, I think the voting system should be used as designed. I think the thought of offending/taking rep tends to make us feel sorry for DVing a post, when we really should see it as keeping up with and maintaining the site.
Noobs beware :D
<jk>

@NoviceInDisguise But you're a novice. :O
@NoviceInDisguise beware.

12:40 AM
OK
If I deserve it, go ahead and DV

I see you writing pro-tips when you're a @NoviceInDisguise lol

My disguise isn't very good, is it? :P

Going to put on my question hat next week and hit 20k asap. :D

Cool!
Going to be a while before I get anywhere near there

Only 2 answers in a month.. :'(

12:41 AM
:/

@David Did I reply to this? Can't remember, anyways LOL.
Gave me a good chuckle.

12:54 AM
I'm going to hold off on my next bounty and go for 500 downvotes instead!

1:19 AM
@iKlsR nope, that is the first message you posted about it.
@iKlsR and @NoviceInDisguise I have been looking at the lack of voting, and considering writing a meta post about it. If you come to a good question or good answer UV it, period. Same goes for bad questions or answers (especially questions). Why was this UVed? and twice? I dont mean to me mean to a new user (the only reason I did not DV) but that is just a plain bad question.
Mean while questions like this dod not get any UV (mine is the only one.)

I didn't even see it, or I'd have DVd it
part of it depends on when certain people are around

@NoviceInDisguise very true
I have another gripe about UVs, (now this is going to sound like I'm whining) I wrote several good answers today, and got a total of 2 UVs. All good answers should get UVs. One [ answer](blender.stackexchange.com/a/27612/2217) in particular, I answered it with 7 views, now there is 24 views. 17 people have looked at the since I answered and no votes on the question or answer. There is just no reason for that.

2:01 AM
@gandalf3 I did not understand the HUGE significance of that until I read about it on BN.
After many months of work, @AMD submitted a patch for Cycles to make it work with #OpenCL kernels. Milestone! https://developer.blender.org/D1200 #b3d

3:02 AM
@David Nice number for it too (I wonder if that was planned :P)

see the description on this blender DOC blender.org/api/blender_python_api_2_62_4/… :)

@David There, have an upvote :)

3:21 AM
@gandalf3 thanks. PS I'm the only one who has (so far) UVed your latest question. Why do people not vote more?

It's only been like an hour or so :P

Hey all!

Hi :D

5 hours later…
12:46 PM
@RandyVanNostrand I noticed you have asked several questions and were apparently satisfied with the results. Consider accepting the best one (if it solved your problem) as this helps with our site stats.
@David rendering with dual r9s intensifies
@gandalf3 cycles uses cpp11 o.O

2 hours later…
3:04 PM
@iKlsR you do know he will never see that message.

@David Good morning!

3:46 PM
good morning @Gwenn

4:35 PM
@NoviceInDisguise regarding blender.stackexchange.com/questions/27647/…, no you don't. Weight painting is simply creating a vertex group. True while very often vertex groups are used with armatures, the do not have to be. See my example blend.

So it creates a vertex group by default?

5:35 PM
it does, just start painting
also when painting pay attention to which is the active group

6:11 PM
@cegaton what program did you use to display the keystrokes in this answer?

@David ShowOff.exe (windows...)

@cegaton ok, yet another from this list.

2 hours later…
7:49 PM
@gandalf3 I you and I both answered that one before the bounty was added.

8:03 PM
@David Oh he will
Moderator super ping, I can ping anyone on stackexchange.

:O Cool!

@iKlsR I wondered if you guys had something like that. Nice.

@David lol

@gandalf3 why is that funny?/

That question was sitting there for weeks

8:14 PM
hey hey everyone, long time no see ;)

Then literally minutes before a bounty is added, it gets two bounty level answers XD
Hi :)

@gandalf3 ok, now I get it. that is worthy of a lol.

:P

@gandalf3 did you see my comment about bisect?

Yes
I thought there might be something wrong with that

8:16 PM
bisect is a good option if you are really good with trigonometry.

lol

umm.. has anyone got any idea, where this setting has gone?

X = cos(radians(35+90)) and Z = sin(radians(35+90))
@PeterVaro change the render engine to "game" then in the properties window, under the Render tab the settings are in the Stereo section.

@David omg.. how embarrassing is that.. thank you very much ;)

@PeterVaro no problem.

I seem to remember a question almost exactly like this:

Q: How can I make a tower of stacked boxes stable?

snapfractalpopI have a tower of flat boxes, but the simulation is not stable. I have tried with split impulse turned off and on. I have tried: setting the collision shape to box, convex hull, and mesh increasing the number of steps per second and iterations per step (though this does improve the stability, ...

Anybody else remember it?

yes it was about cubes sliding and never coming to rest

Q: How to build building that is made of small pieces - how to correctly put rigid body over rigid body?

yossicoI'm new to blender and actually amazed from the possibilities it provides. I successfully created a set of boxes (like domino tiles) that fall in a chain reaction. (Like in this answer: http://blender.stackexchange.com/a/7111/8260). When I did this there was a tiny fall of the tiles (about 0.001c...

@NoviceInDisguise I was just looking for it XD ^^ is that the one?

I think so, seems like a very close fit
Yep, that is the one

11:32 PM
Our favorite self proclamed BGE "expert" asked another question, but this time it was actually a pretty good question and not just a "HELP!!! please do this for me-" I think this is a good answer

A: Animation not responding in time?

X-27The reason for this is that there is a big difference between frames and logic ticks. There is a default of 60 logic ticks per second, and 20 frames per second. The current frame rate in your scene can be found here in case you accidentally changed it, but the default is 20. If you add a dela...

@X-27 he had just asked about logic ticks and animation frames and got an answer yet he is stuck with it again
