user1871What does it do can it help with animation. im learning blender and wanna know what using Python does i see some videos on youtube of people using it.

At least I made a screenshot for later use. Do did a nice Chistmas hat for Suzanne in the design proposal on meta, you could create something for gandalf

I was thinking a nice freestyle wizard hat

@gandalf3 Then I'm lloking forward to see your new hat. lol charles has lost his hat

Q: How do you create grass?

qwertyk31If you were using a plane as a terrain, how would you add grass to the plane and make it bend and flow like there was wind. Also, how would you make the grass color vary in shades of green so you would get yellow, dry patches of grass.

11:25 PM
That's a tutorial request?

@gandalf3 How do you create ...

Oh.. yes, now I see what you mean

Title: How can I make grass using a particle system?
uughh

sorry...
Is this a tutorial request?

@gandalf3 borderline at most. You provide an image and you explain what you think might work.
versus just asking how to do something.
This is getting me really annoyed.

Q: Move cache_fluid folder

qwertyk31I have my .blend file synced to the cloud but the fluid cache folder is getting very big and I don't need it in the folder that gets synced is there a way to move it somewhere else and get blender to use it in its new location without blender creating a new cache_fluid?

@iKlsR Won't happen again
Isn't this shown under the Fluid panel... :/ — iKlsR 6 mins ago
Huh?

@gandalf3 the fluid sim has like 4 panels... not that hard if you look

@iKlsR four
I see Fluid, Fluid World, Fluid Boundary, Fluid Particles

Adds a no research effort close reason..

It's under Fluid

11:37 PM
@gandalf3 If you want to bake a sim, the panel is like right there.

@iKlsR Oh, sorry I misread your comment as "This isn't under the fluid panel" :S

sigh.. i'm going offline. In a bad mood atm.

Why aren't the hats in the sidebar?

@CharlesL What sidebar?

11:39 PM
to the right
in the user list

:/

I have no idea

I feel bald when I look over there...

lulz
@qwertyk31 if you move the cache directory and change the cache path in blender to reference that location, does it work?

@gandalf3 no
I still get the folder next to my .blend

11:45 PM
I mean, if you bake the simulation wherever, then move the resulting cache to some other location and point blender there, does it work?

Its has loads of files like "fluidsurface_final_0000.bobj.gz"

That's good

@gandalf3 Why

Those are the fluid cache files

@gandalf3 But they are not in tmp

11:47 PM
Do you have write permissions in tmp?
Not sure why that is

@gandalf3 yes

hrmm
Works for me
it is /tmp, right?
not tmp
(it has a /)
nvm, I see it in the screenshot

blender is creating the folders in tmp

@qwertyk31 wat
I thought you just said it wasn't going in tmp?

but there is still a folder next to my .blends
it seems to be going into both

11:49 PM
called cache_fluid?
hrm

yes

You are right

I have one too, let me make sure they are the same...
They look the same visually, but they have different md5sums
Is it possible that the cache in your blender directory is old?
left over from another sim?

@gandalf3 I will remove it and see what happens

11:54 PM
The one in my blender dir is about 800MB, while the one in /tmp is only 4
Ah, yes. the one in my blender directory is a different simulation

This folder could be created at shutdown
