Here is an interesting cake hat case codereview.stackexchange.com/users/110054/coldspeed#winter-bash Only has the hat on SO! not three sites.
@Panda and @alecxe ^^
and anyone else that has theories on the Eliza Doolots hat.
Impressive amounts of reputation per day ...
00:23
`@David indeed, quite an interesting case
@David That's interesting, so it is possible to get it on just 1 site
He did get a total of >3200 rep since WB started
So, the hat probably got something to do with rep
could it be related to being at some place in the reputation league? stackexchange.com/leagues/1/week/stackoverflow/2018-12-16/…
jeez reputation league
:D
idk just throwing out ideas

👏
00:36
Good idea, but I don't think it's that
Cause Catija would probably have gotten it on Meta.SE stackexchange.com/leagues/4/week/meta/…
I mean, using the rep league for anything hat-related is unfair imho
There could be a combination of rep that would trigger the hat, maybe >3200 to get the hat on just one site
and >500 + 2 more >200 to get it simultaneously on 3 sites
yeah, good idea
This user's top on SO this week and has it too
interesting.
00:39
So does the 2nd user on SO stackoverflow.com/users/2901002/jezrael
The top 5 has it
yeah, Gordon is a crazy (in a good way) database guy, I met him once - he just thinks SQL - all of these monstrous queries he writes in the answers are just from his head
amazing
minimum 1506 rep this week
@alecxe Wow!
yeah, he is being doing databases for 30+ years
dinosaur
haha that's long
@Panda what was your rep on the three when you got it?
00:42
meta 932, politics 584 and ell 495
hmm
I think @alecxe's right; it might have something to do with rep leagues
but there must be some min.
else users on small sites would have it for just a tiny bit of rep.
Yea, a lot of users still get it on a few sites simultaneously
ok so there is no magic across three sites thing.
00:44
So probably a combination of rep on a few sites may count towards the hat
what would make it trigger simultaneously?
a total of maybe, >1200 rep on 3 sites
@Panda good thinking. try to balance the hat to give small sites a chance
@David Yep, it does explain why a lot of users got it on ~3 sites
@alecxe do you know what your rep was on each of the sites when you got the cake hat?
00:46
unfortunately, don't remember
Actually a lot of users have the site
Wait I think I calculated lol @alecxe
@Panda so maybe something as simple as get X number of rep in a week (across all sites)
never mind I can't find it
@David yea if you go through the rep leagues, the top users have the hat
shoot. if that was the case why could you get it on three, then add a fourth site too?
yeah, that's what happened to me, I've got that hat on the CR site later on
00:50
I think it doesn't solely follow the rep leagues cause the week starts slightly late at Dec 16 while WB started on Dec 12; it's probably "get some amount of rep within 7 days"
that is what I was thinking. 7 days
Apparently the threshold is >1000 to get it on just one site; and a total of >1500 to get it on 3 sites
yet why would the hat show up during WB day 6?
ah yes, could there be a chance it appeared earlier and no one realised it?
we only found out about this hat after Monica updated the post, right?
@Panda very, very small
MonicaCellio was first and Glorfindel was the second user to get the hat, both were on the first page of the leader board.
00:57
@David I mean like if the threshold is 1000, then normally one could only get the hat at the earliest day 5, so we could have missed it on day 5
Are we sure Monica got it first?
@Panda no. I guess not.
Cause this user would have hit 1000 by day 4 codereview.stackexchange.com/users/110054/coldspeed#winter-bash
so probably he got it without anyone realizing
@Panda Monica crossed 1000 rep on meta on dec 16. However she only got the hat on the 18th.
@David oh, the 1-site-threshold could be higher, maybe at 1200

Q: Why no Solstice hat?

S JadeThere appears to be no Solstice hat this year (unless it's super secret). I haven't seen anyone with a Solstice hat, and it's not listed on the Winter Bash 2018 Hat list. Where in the World hats that looked like Solstice hats appeared in the 2016 hat list, and they were fantastic! Why not? Was ...

Q: What is the additonal criteria to fullfill for Red Baron Hat?

Ankit SharmaOn Movies & TV SE, I qualified for Red Baron Hat twice but never got it. From Winter Bash page: answer a question scoring -3 or lower; the question eventually becomes 3+ and your answer becomes 5+ And I completed it here but no hat. Is there any unsaid rule or some bug in calculations?

Q: Is there an audit on IPS while reviewing?

OldPadawanI just noticed the following: Hat earned - peackeeper Successfully complete 20 reviews without failing an audit. What's weird is that, since the winterbash started, I made more (much much more) than 20 reviews. I (think I usually) have no problem with reviewing the VTC, LQP and so on.....

Can anyone help out there? What's a successful review? And I think 'without failing an audit' on a site without audits just means 20 successful reviews?
@Tinkeringbell Because, some time SE tricks you to see if you are paying attention, so some times they will have tests, the posts look like what they were before, and see if you know what happen at the end, so example, their showing a question zero vote score, then see if you say it is a bad question, if you say it's good you fail if the question became negative scored and closed, and if you say bad question in the case of question becoming negative-scored, you passed the test.
Sorry, realized IPS doesn't have that, so everything is considered succesful...
Yes, but IPS doesn't have review audits. So the question which then remains is 'what makes a successful review' as the asker reviewed many more than 20 posts.
@Tinkeringbell Realized too, see the last comment...
Still weird that they apparently had to do more than 20 reviews...
Do you think it goes per queue?
10:43
@Tinkeringbell Yes, of course, that's what i was ready to tell you.
Okay. Thank you :) That makes enough for an answer then :)
@Tinkeringbell Should i make a IPS account and answer?
Only if you want to ;)
@Tinkeringbell done it.
Thank you :D
11:04
@Tinkeringbell I it okay, my post?
Yes, it's great :)
IPS Meta isn't half as scary as main, when it comes to writing answers :P
@Tinkeringbell Lol, MSO is like that, scary... :-)

Q: List of expected new secret hats - 2018

U9-ForwardI realized that everyone's thinking there is gonna be more new secret hats that are so far undiscovered, since i see from this post: How many secret hats are there for Winter Bash 2018? Answer saying "at least 9", so would be nice if you could realize some undiscovered secret-hats, then post it...

Chee... i would like to delete my question but i can't...
12:37
better think next time... ;-)

I just returned after some hours offline to find that I earned "Eliza Doolots" on Science Fiction & Fantasy and Puzzling.
I'm not sure how, since I haven't actually done anything there in the intervening time.
Could it be something as simple as "earn rep on the site on a particular date"? Or is the hat not common enough for that?
That Eliza Doolots is for getting a lot of reputation
My current hypothesis is get 1500 (15 is a magic number in hatology) of total reputation on the SE network. Only sites with more than 200 rep gain count. Time frame is not yet clear, maybe it is the whole Winter Bash which will make the hat accessible to many more users to come.
Ooh, that would fit with Catija's original inspiration for making that hat last year.
@Randal'Thor And the design fits it, too
I earned 6 hats in about 10 days, wore the new one each day....so when is the Cheesy hat awarded?
15:04
@Randal'Thor it's interesting that you got this hat on just 2 sites. Till now I thought at least 3 sites are required.
@Eran There is even one user who earned it on a single site, scroll upwards in this chat to find it.
Yes, I just checked the top yearly user on SO and he got it. He didn't have it the last time I checked, which was shortly after this hat was first awarded.
Actually, many of the top monthly users on SO have it now.
15:24
Maybe it's for "earn at least X rep during Winter Bash"?
@ArtOfCode Does that pinned "Knit with more colo[u]rs" link automatically download some kind of browser add-on? I clicked it expecting to see a pretty picture or at least a webpage, but instead I got a warning that something might be trying to harm my computer.
I'd suggest either changing the link to go to a webpage with the option of downloading something, or changing the link description to make it clear what people might get from clicking on it.

@jknappen let me try what happens if I join 20 accounts with my sock (gaining 2000 reputation by association bonuses)
I suspect I won't get the hat, but at least it's a corner case we have to try :)
16:52
@Glorfindel: This should not work, first the association bonus is only 100, not 200, second I think it must be really earned reputation like in the Brunhilde hat
@Randal'Thor it's a script.
@jknappen ah, right, otherwise I should've gotten it on Board & Card Games already.
17:10
@Catija Can we not have pinned links that try to make changes/downloads to people's computers without warning?
I don't know exactly what it is or what it's trying to do, otherwise I'd edit the message myself.
@Randal'Thor I clicked on it many times now and it didn't download anything on my computer.
(keyboard problems, sorry)
@NogShine When I click it, first a new tab appears, then disappears again and I get what looks like a file-download popup except that it says:
If it wasn't someone I knew posting it, I'd assume the link was dodgy/harmful and delete it directly.
It's Art of Code's userscript
I'm not tech-savvy, but I'm internet-savvy enough to be deeply suspicious of an innocuous-looking link which gives that kind of behaviour and warning when clicked.
@Randal'Thor I don't know if that's possible but we can make it clearer when it's an executable or download (like PDF links). I'm mobile so I can't edit it but you can edit it to say something like "Want to knit with more colors? Install this userscript!" With a link.
17:20
@Catija Thanks; done.
@Catija userscript installation shouldn't involve download prompts like that...
That should be clear enough to those who know what userscripts are, and enough to make the rest of us avoid clicking ;-)
If you don't have *monkey installed it might?
I resisted the temptation to change "colors" to "colours", although I'm surprised a Brit like @Art used the wrong spelling.
maybe that's what happens when you slide your finger over an en-US GBoard? ;-)
17:28
@kcw78 not sure, but you might have to wait a while before the hat is triggered
@Randal'Thor I blame all the programming. Also, you need Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey for that to work, that's why you got the weird prompt.

Q: No Silencium hat for 15 days

A KI have got a question on Stackoverflow in Russian created Dec 12, 2018, 19:58 MSK — and it still has no answers for 15 days. Is it a bug?

21:57
Discovered knitting and posting the image to related MSE question is worth your time (at least if you have low rep on MSE). Got +18 rep on MSE, plus Teacher badge, more privileges, and a WB 2018 Tophat on MSE. :)
@kcw78 you are welcome ;)
