@Rob yes you can with a bit of magic, I'm wearing my favorite rubber ducky with waffles. I even made a knitted version of it: meta.stackexchange.com/a/320629/251777 :)

Rob
12:53 AM
@Vickel Very good.

Q: Is there a reason why this year's Winter Bash site prevents crawling?

PandaThis year's Winter Bash site has robots.txt which prevents it from being crawled. User-agent: * Disallow: / Is there a reason why robots.txt was added to this year's WB site?

@ArtOfCode Your greys made it possible for me to add SF to my sweater art.

this is awesome!
<3

Thanks :D

how much time did it take?

I phased it out over a few days and then added the text and the last two logos (SF and Cooking) just now... probably... 3-4 hours all together?
The hard part is miniaturizing them to a ~9x9 square. SO was never going to be a success.

niice, I could imagine that, but still all of them are easily recognizable - the travel.SE looks especially accurate

5:49 AM
Yeah, the angles on that one made it difficult. It took a lot of trial and error... but it was one of the earlier ones I did. I started with SO and worked out from there... So I think Travel was the 3rd one, maybe.
Arqade was second.
And I really like the Biology one.

@Catija WOW! That's amazing!!

:D

the coffee mug is cool too :)

I was trying to figure out what to do with the space on the bottom from the previous version... and then I realized it was exactly 9 high and the letters I was using for beta sites was 5, so that would give me just the right amount of space for the letters with my standard two stitch spacing between stuff. I wish I could say I planned it but it just ... happened.
@alecxe Oh, yeah, I like that one. :) And I'm pretty happy with how M&TV came out.

the one that looks like a soccer jersey? :) just kidding
Atletico Madrid!

5:56 AM
HA.

Did you guys know that one of my hats was sabotaged by a fellow "competitor" posting "Great, thanks" comment on my +6 answer? Not quite a good sportsmanship behavior
@Catija would be a really awesome SE swag if your creation would be represented in a physical form

@alecxe Oooh, yeah. That'd be awesome. :D

6:11 AM
@alecxe I'd really hate that :(

yeah, sad stuff, flagged the comment, it got to +7 but no dice

My first James Bond candidate almost reached +7 until the OP thanked me, although that wasn't intentional on the OP's part

ah, got that as well :D Sometimes it's just hilarious, people want to be heard :D

Haha yea, honestly though it'd be much more practical for the OP to accept the answer rather than thank the answerer

exactly :) interesting and controversial hat though

6:18 AM
I agree, it's quite challenging, probably a tad easier to get on a low-traffic SE site :)

I got that hat on a beta site ^_^

nice, people still wanna talk for some reason :D

Q: What determines the order of sites you've earned a hat on?

GlorfindelThe Winter Bash hat rack shows which sites you've earned a hat on: What is the order of these sites? If you're on a site where you've earned the hat, that site comes first, but the order of the other sites seems random. It's not a chronological order, and it switches between sites: but sub...

Anyone got any ideas about the waffle hat? very curious about it

Simply Leave 15 comments on the same tag within 12 hours (possibly 24)
Not proven yet tho...

Okay that makes a lot of sense
I'd definitely agree with that

@Isaac lol, that's currently the theory we got, Nothing is 100% sure about secret hats :-)

I know, just saying based on the fact I've been camping the php thread recently that makes a lot of sense

Q: Images of the hats from Arqade's 2011 Hat Dash

PandaThe present Winter Bash started out in 2011 on Gaming Stack Exchange exclusively as "Hat Dash". All the images of the hats that year seem to be located in a PNG file: http://hatdash.com/content/img/hats128.png. (On Gaming SE Meta, there are only images of the 6 secret hats.) Unfortunately, the ...

I AM SO ANGRY :(
I was less than a day away from silencium but someone left a crappy answer on my question
3
literally not even a good answer.
AAAAAAAAAAH

hm, does it get counted if it's deleted?
not sure

2:07 PM
ohhh, that was the hat script that was giving errors at the beginning of the event, that's how I got it. So lucky, I don't know if I could be able to get it now.

Rob
@Dylan If a VLQ or NAA is reasonable and fair you should try.

then Dylan will become a test subject... ;)

3:08 PM
lol

seriously though, if you manage to get the hat anyway, please tell us

I will.
I flagged it as NAA, it wasnt too low quality, but it should have been a comment.

@Dylan Did it work?

@Dylan lol

So.... if there is a secret hat for doing some activity while it is Winter Solstice.... nobody seems to have been awarded it yet. :/

@jknappen nope.
My guess is that the query they are using takes into account deleted answers.

isn't winter solstice tomorrow?

@EriktheOutgolfer, it's the 21st. Over here on the West Coast of America, that's the current date. I figure it will be "as long as it's Winter Solstice somewhere in the world"...

yes, that's true
> Winter solstice 2018 in Northern Hemisphere will be at 12:23 AM on
Saturday, December 22
All times are in Eastern European Time.
(EET is GMT+2)
it can't be the winter solstice anywhere yet...

5:46 PM
Ah, makes sense.
In that case, since it will be the 22nd in UTC, I'll have to wait for Kiribati to start the 22nd or something...
Wait... hold on. It's already the 22nd in New Zealand!

working or rubber ducky...abandoned a question yesterday; nothing. Today, I don't even see Abandon Question when I'm on an Ask a Question page (for SO, Meta SO and SE). What am I missing?

first of all, it's called "discarding a draft"
second... well, you discarded the last one, the end, it's gone! why would you discard the now-empty stuff? ;-)

I started a new question today...just lorem ipsum text as others mentioned a few days back.

wait a little

6:01 PM
more than 12 hours?

also, just in case, fill in the required stuff (15-char title, 30-char body, 1 tag)

yeah, did all that the first time - it was almost a real question (that would get -10 downvote - LOL)

I guess you typed "boss stupid gimme code no code me fired plz help"? :P

well, after a little more typing...i discovered the "Discard" option doesn't appear until your question looks "real" (my words). I replaced the lorem ipbsum text with a newbie question about parsing text. And there seems to be a time delay after doing the required stuff. rubber ducky clock ticking. THANKS!

Q: Is Winter Bash's opt-in/opt-out GDPR compliant?

Pierre.VriensQuote from this comment (posted by balpha ♦): ... While the publicly visible behavior is like you don't have hats (e.g. it's not visible on your avatar, you don't count towards the site leaderbords, etc.), the fact that you deserve the hat is recorded for all users, regardless of opt-out stat...

Is this the clean up hat? I see other secret hats in this thread and their requirements all stayed the same..

I didn't make 20 edits in one day and I still got it on meta.

except Sun Wukong

@Dylan No, as I definitely haven't made 20 edits

ok

7:43 PM
Is there a good guess on what is needed for clean-up?

so... there are people who have gotten Rep Hunter... O U C H

And is there any hat this year which you get for posting on the hour?
(or should I give that as a possible reason why some people get some hats?)

@Dylan Yes

8:04 PM
@Catija "yes" that is the cleanup hat, or yes, that is the requirement?

@WELZ It's based on that hat.

so... what is the exact requirement?

8:20 PM
Do you think there's any merit to the theory, that some of these unsolved secret hats might only trigger if you've ALSO knitted a design on the winterbash2018 page?
Or has anyone gotten the unsolved secret hats and NOT done any knitting?

8:41 PM
@JamesDunn I only opened the knitting thing once, drew three lines for the heck of it, didn't save anything. I have Clean-Up duty on SFF, though
I think I knitted after I got CUD, though.

8:55 PM
I've done zero knitting this WB
I doubt there is an existing hat related to knitting

9:29 PM
@alecxe did you get either Waffles or Eliza Doolots?

Both

How about Clean-Up Duty?

mhm

Welp, there goes that theory. :P

:)

9:30 PM
Thanks for proving it, one way or the other.

No problem

10:06 PM
Thank you for the help, just got the 007 :)

you know... you don't really lack hats...

10:17 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer we don't know what we don't know :) Wonder if there are any active secret hats that nobody has gotten yet..

2 hours ago, by Erik the Outgolfer
so... what is the exact requirement?
still no reply :/
I know Cat was active...
:P

I wonder whether "Eliza Doolots" is a homage to Eliza the chatbot rather than Eliza Doolittle? It so that would suggest that the hat is related to... chatting.
> Hello, I am Eliza.
* I wonder whether "Eliza Doolots" is a homage to Eliza the chatbot rather than Eliza Doolittle? It so that would suggest that the hat is related to... chatting.
> Don't you ever say Hello?
* I like hats
> Tell me more...
* I want an Eliza Hat
> Suppose you got an Eliza Hat?
* Then I would wear it.
> What does that suggest to you?

@dbc that's the question that i want to ask too...
:-), lol

dbc
@U9-Forward > Suppose you got to ask too?

Note that i think my Explorer hat is delivering now, i am waiting for the people to send it to me (my house), lol :D
@dbc well, you asked for me, you did it before i was gonna do :-), :D
Yes, the sender sent me my Explorer hat, it's delivered into my house :-)

dbc
@U9-Forward > We were discussing you, not me.
(As you may guess I'm making some Eliza-like replies to see if something happens)

@dbc > what! that's eliza-like?
@dbc How ya do that formatting?

dbc
11:32 PM
@U9-Forward I put it inside a back-quote. Same way as formatting code inline.

dbc
@U9-Forward > What answer would please you the most?

@dbc > oh, hope this works
@dbc did it!!

^ doesn't look very ELISA-like to me... ;)

dbc
@U9-Forward > What does that suggest to you?
@U9-Forward OK this is getting a little tiresome. Should I stop now?

11:36 PM
@dbc You decide :-) lol, i can't stop!

you know, some chat rooms are way stricter...
