Q: Linear probing 16 hashmap elements at a time using SIMD instrinsics

gtmshrmFor my hashmap implementation, I'm caching hashes for each map element in an array of length NBUCKETS, where each element corresponds to an element in the hashmap. Assuming a hash consists of 64-bits, the first 57 bits decide the position(bucket) in the hashmap and the last 7 bits (i.e H2(hash)) ...

In general SO is wrong place to ask for feedback on correctly working code (Code Review is better place). Note that huge amount of pointless comments, bad variable names and inconsistent capitalization not going to help you with reception of the code so. — Alexei Levenkov 7 secs ago

@Gary, if it's low-level enough, you can still use malloc/free/realloc. However, hardly anyone I know even uses naked new anymore - we've all mostly moved on to smart pointers. It's even one of the things in our coding guidelines that you'll have to justify in code reviews :-) — paxdiablo 13 secs ago

Q: How to simplify function that checks if '.' and '/' are escaped properly?

kemicofa ghostI'm currently using a function to check if a URL has correctly escaped two different characters . and /. Should think about switching that to code review! — Patates Pilées 34 secs ago
I should also mention that Stackoverflow isn't really the site to be posting questions asking for code cleanup and similar. Please use CodeReview for that: codereview.stackexchange.com. The reason you're getting answers here is that your question contains an unsafe practice of using eval() where not necessary, but generally, these kinds of questions are downvoted and closed. — Tim Lewis 30 secs ago

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Oh, wow.

@S.M. when suggesting users post on CR it would be great if there was also a suggestion like "Please read the relevant help center pages like 'What topics can I ask about here?' and 'How do I ask a good question?". In the current form the code above would likely be closed as off-topic because it is missing details about what the code does. — Sᴀᴍ Onᴇᴌᴀ 37 secs ago

@Zeta No network access on the VM?
Depending on the VM, some of mine can access CR just as fine as the host can.

@Mast Yeah, that would have been possible, but the VM was really slow, and I didn't want to do any post-processing on the Video in the VM itself.

Ah, I thought you'd have used a screen2gif recorder.

4:38 PM
OpenGL -> WebM -> GIF (ffmpeg) -> Realisation that ffmpeg doesn't compress GIFs well -> ezgif.
OpenGL -> WebM was already slow in the VM, I had to rate limit OP's application as the recording dropped frames like crazy.
But yeah, that workflow wasn't really optimal.

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Sure. He's free to rephrase it. Code Review is the place for him to ask for a code review. Just gave him the link, nothing else. — BionicCode 52 secs ago

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ I repeat, I have just posted the link to let him know that there is a board where you can ask for code reviews. I am not responsible for anybodies behavior or quality of posts. I only can vote bad questions to close. It is clear for everybody that each board has its rules, at least it should be. If he's asking an opinion based question on Code Review again, because he is not able to learn from SO, then his questions will likely get shut down again. How do I come into play?! Instead of telling me you should tell him. All the links you have posted should be addressed to the OP. Weird. — BionicCode 51 secs ago

You should post this on code review. SO focuses on code/programs which are not yet working while code review focuses on code optimization. — Mathieu 42 secs ago

@BionicCode You are responsible for how you direct a user to another site. The way you suggested the OP go to Code Review has a higher chance of the OP posting an off-topic question there. You are responsible for this higher chance, as you are the one that directed the user to Code Review in a poor manner. In the future please follow the suggestions so this chance is eliminated. — Peilonrayz 56 secs ago

It's not even unexpected. It's not even the worst of it.
It just keeps getting crazier your side of the pond.
Or perhaps the world is just going crazy all over.
Or we just keep looking better at the craziness that already existed.
I mean, when I first saw this, I didn't know what to say it's that crazy and normal at the same time.
That's people climbing in electricity cables to get away from the flood wasting the entire village.
