looks like the push back has paid off.. everyone agrees that the previously proposed solution was stupid. the new oen doesn't come without its caveats but it will ensure data quality and provide better reporting, which is the goal of the system anyway, and it will make it easier on all parties to actually operate it..
Well, the alternative wouldn't be avoiding that tool either
The alternative would be them updating system A and then manually updating system B
So they would probably not update system B leaving our data inconsistent
My version says they just update system B and system A pulls data from system B
They were using system C to log data, which they should not have been using as it doesn't track things correctly
It is more complexity, but it is less complexity than the alternatives
and condensing that into a single system is out of scope, currently
that's part of a 5 year plan
idk if I am phrasing it properly but any way you look at it, my way is basically the best win all around. The initial way involved either duplicating data and users probably not actually updating both systems and thus getting inconsistencies
@TadhgMcDonald-Jensen I'd probably never get anything done. Also I'm less motivated when I know everyone else is probably going to say the same thing. — Alex Hall22 secs ago
You'll get stuff done.. unless you get sucked into the productivity sink that is the 2nd monitor..... please send help! In all seriousness, we'd welcome you on CR. Even if other people are going to say the same thing, no one would submit any answers with that attitude! — Dan Pantry33 secs ago
I'm just learning C# and wrote a little program to check if a word contains vowels, it's fairly simple and not to exciting but I would like to know if there's easier ways to do this:
using System;
namespace check_vowels
{
class Program
{
static void Main(string[] args)
{...
So, you have found your way to the Code Review main chat room, The 2nd Monitor, perhaps for one of these reasons:
You were invited or "pinged" by a site moderator or other user to discuss a post on the main Code Review site;
You visited Code Review for the 1st or Nth time, and noticed the chat ...
that's what I thought at first, but I've never had a problem with it. as long as the program closes after that. It is the cleanest solution vs creating other scripts and jobs to delete the file.
yeah, half the time I quit on them because... they are just so strange, and who's got time for that. Plus, my primary language is C#, not a golfing language, and it is almost always those languages that win
Objective:
Write a function called perimeterBox that returns the perimeter of a rectangle.
It should have two parameters.
One formula for perimeter is length + length + width + width;
Call the function and pass in any value for length and width you like.

Hi, Working on codeacademy when I enter ...
I wonder if Python runs on my PC here though... incentives to update to Windows 10 and enable Bash support (still not fully released I think?) are getting bigger
@Vogel612 Isn't it possible to enable it already without becoming insider?
If so then I need to wait a little bit more
Lol, I like this

I kind of know what those terms mean, except I keep forgetting about it every few months
I have a sorted (by x value) ArrayList of points and four seperate points that make up a quadrilateral. My code deletes all points in the ArrayList that are inside of the quadrilateral. I just wanted to know if I could speed up my code:

Given a number between 1 and 7, this will display which day of the week corresponds to that number, starting with Monday. you should be able to create a function inside the object that this represents (pretty much where you are writing the current code)

$(this).toggleClass('selected');
}
and then all you should have to do i...
Rather than .removeClass() and .toggleClass(), I suggest gathering all of the elements that need to be toggled, and calling .toggleClass() once.
It would also be beneficial to give this functionality a name. It seems like you want each group to have at most one item selected at any given time, ...
write a function?! if you don't want to rewrite all the document.getElementById stuff, make those global instead of local vars. Also I'd recommend posting this in Code Review, not StackOverflow — pandavenger36 secs ago
Since there is no specific programming problem to be solved in this question, it's off-topic for Stack Overflow. If you do decide to delete this question on Stack Overflow and post it on Code Review, I suggest that you post your entire game (press Ctrl-K to make a live demo) so that we can advise you properly. — 200_success52 secs ago

Hello guys I just posted a piece of my code in stackoverflow but I learned that this is the right place to do it. So here I am, I am currently building my first game/app. It is a very simple 130~ lines of code at the moment. I feel like I can write the same code in a much shorter way. Could anyon...
I'm practicing my JS skills by trying to create a pokemon game. So far, I've made the dataset and the functions required to work the game. Can someone help me optimize the code and tell me why they made that change? Thanks in advance!

I have implemented the LEB128 encoding for unsigned integers. I'm fairly new to Haskell so I have some doubt about the coding style I'm using, particularly the definition of byte and then 2 lines later byte':
import Data.Bits
import Data.Word
uleb128 :: Integer -> [Word8]
uleb128 0 = []

In the mentionef "mvc" implementations they use services like a log service, mail service, etc. Note that I'm constantly using "mvc" with quotes as it's only to a certain level that this pattern is implemented. It seems to be not set in stone and often somewhat opinionated how this (and other) patterns get implemented. if you're interested in a debate on the structure/pattern I suggest you post at codereview.stackexchange.com — JimL55 secs ago
I have different malloc implementations: The system's, a real-time malloc that is supposed to be deterministic and my custom malloc.
Now when I measure, I find that the system's builtin (on Ubuntu) is faster than mine. In tests, the results are that the system's malloc is much faster or so when...

But the library is starting to get a bit outdated, which sucks cause it worked really well
I wonder how I should go about this from a project viewpoint: should I rename the project to something like PortAudio2, or should I rename it completely, orrrrr......
@EBrown don't freak out when you check the stats tonight. I just scored +24 by going through my unaccepted questions and, well, picking a checkmark-worthy answer for each. expect a little spike on the "number of accepted answers" metric.
If you're interested in feedback on any & all aspects of your code (including performance), then this would belong on Code Review. I would strongly recommend including the actual procedure though, because a good code review post is always better with as much context as possible (e.g. where's that File coming from?). Could you possibly explain what's going on in the first regex? I confirmed it does do the job, but I'm having a hard time reading it. — Insane3 mins ago
I've tried to make something optimized for the Project Euler problem 23, named "Non-abundant sums".
I've fine-tuned my solution to the following:
I added divisors to the slots of each number to compute all the sums instead of checking if a number is abundant without using the modulo definition...
@200_success Nevermind, I was confused about something but now that I cleared it up the regex makes perfect sense.
@200_success If you thought that was bad.. check this out: ((?:[0-2][0-9])|(?:[3][0-1]))(?:[\/]|[-])((?:[0][0-9])|(?:[1](?:[10]|[11]|[12])))(?:[\/]|[-])((?:[0-1][0-6])|(?:[4-9][0-9]))
But I can't stand it now -- after seeing how tidy your solution to my other post was. I learned a bit about how expressions are constructed so I'm going to try again and see if i can't do much better
