Thank you! I will add this to codereview.stackexchange.com immediately... thanks for the feedback! — user6351569 49 secs ago

looks like the push back has paid off.. everyone agrees that the previously proposed solution was stupid. the new oen doesn't come without its caveats but it will ensure data quality and provide better reporting, which is the goal of the system anyway, and it will make it easier on all parties to actually operate it..

Improvement.

Zak
@DanPantry Score 1 for Clean(er) Code(rs)

the downside is that it will force the one customer to use a tool in order to actually process stuff correctly
but they should have been using that tool anyway
the fact they aren't is a people problem and not a problem with the integration i've proposed

Seems like a major downside to be honest.

3:13 PM
It's not
Like I said, they should be using that tool anyway

Yes, but now you're forcing them to.
Forcing complexity on a customer ain't good.

Like every other country does

Doesn't make it right.

Well, the alternative wouldn't be avoiding that tool either
The alternative would be them updating system A and then manually updating system B
So they would probably not update system B leaving our data inconsistent
My version says they just update system B and system A pulls data from system B
They were using system C to log data, which they should not have been using as it doesn't track things correctly
It is more complexity, but it is less complexity than the alternatives
and condensing that into a single system is out of scope, currently
that's part of a 5 year plan
idk if I am phrasing it properly but any way you look at it, my way is basically the best win all around. The initial way involved either duplicating data and users probably not actually updating both systems and thus getting inconsistencies

@AlexHall hey!

So what is this place? Where does the name come from?

3:26 PM
It's the chat room for CodeReview.
The name I believe comes from the fact that you have the chat on your 2nd monitor :)
But I don't know for sure

Zak
@AlexHall Well, the 1st Monitor is (ostensibly) for work.

@Duga @DanPantry should I countermand that?

Zak
So the 2nd is the natural place for it.

Q: Checking if a string contains vowels

13aalI'm just learning C# and wrote a little program to check if a word contains vowels, it's fairly simple and not to exciting but I would like to know if there's easier ways to do this: using System; namespace check_vowels { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) {...

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Usey our best judgement... I don't know enough about R to say

3:27 PM
@Zak actually the first monitor is for main, the 2nd is chat, and the 3rd is meta.

@AlexHall It's the place you set up on your second monitor at work

Q: Welcome to The 2nd Monitor!

PhrancisSo, you have found your way to the Code Review main chat room, The 2nd Monitor, perhaps for one of these reasons: You were invited or "pinged" by a site moderator or other user to discuss a post on the main Code Review site; You visited Code Review for the 1st or Nth time, and noticed the chat ...

@DanPantry I will say that's not CR worthy.
ANd I know R, so whatever.

Zak
@AlexHall There is also the Nth Monitor for stuff that is too chatty for the 2nd

@DanPantry Depends if the politics involves programming in some way ^^

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ We can't do that, we need to be serious every once in a while.

@BenVlodgi Even if you answer first, higher rep users can easily over-muscle your answer

Damn you Windows, making C development difficult

Why are you using C anyway? The only reason I still use it is for embedded. Never for applications.

@syb0rg Exactly one of the reasons why I haven't started with C++ yet either

C++ on Windows is easy.
C is doable, unless you need libraries. Those are always a pain. And cross-platform on C? Heck no, never a fan of that.

@Mast Exactly, due to the portability intentions for Khronos embedded systems must also be developed for

4:05 PM
Oh, right, I remember you saying something about that.

I would use C++, but idk how many embedded systems I would lose with that transfer

@Mast How would you suggest?
I'm honestly getting a bit lost already with the main file and Windows-specific stuff etc.

@skiwi Start with VS till you got the basics down. That will ease the learning curve.

I don't really have a reason to start C+ though, that's why also I guess
On another note: tensorflow.org looks interesting

Reasons are overrated.

4:09 PM
@skiwi That is very interesting stuff indeed!
I have some youtube stuff I could point you to from google if you are interested

I'll first see if I can make any sense of TensorFlow
I still have the idea to create a neural network that can detect bad questions on CR

@skiwi Hey that was my idea! ;)

Simon is already doing it with comments :P

Simon is doing a good job at comments, but it's not in neural networks :P

4:11 PM
Oh, right, that's ML, not NN.

I forgot how the method is called he's using though

Highly recommend that series, it really made ML make sense to me
It hasn't got into neural nets yet, but the series did just start recently in its defense

I wonder if Python runs on my PC here though... incentives to update to Windows 10 and enable Bash support (still not fully released I think?) are getting bigger

Continuum is awesome, installs just about every library you'll ever need by default.

@skiwi bash support is an insider-build feature right now IIRC

4:14 PM
My win10 does not bash.
I occasionally bash my win10 though.

@Vogel612 Isn't it possible to enable it already without becoming insider?
If so then I need to wait a little bit more
Lol, I like this
> This tutorial is intended for readers who are new to both machine learning and TensorFlow. If you already know what MNIST is, and what softmax (multinomial logistic) regression is, you might prefer this faster paced tutorial. Be sure to install TensorFlow before starting either tutorial.
I kind of know what those terms mean, except I keep forgetting about it every few months

Story of my life...

Hmm TensorFlow offers a Docker install, maybe time to get familiar with Docker as there's some hype around it lately? ;)

lately???

lol

4:25 PM
Container-Based infrastructure is not bleeding edge since 2 or 3 years by now
and it was hyped when it was bleeding edge already

I hadn't really heard about Docker until a few months ago I think
Apparently TensorFlow doesn't have GPU support on Windows by default either :/

@200_success Nevermind, I was confused about something but now that I cleared it up the regex makes perfect sense.
@200_success If you thought that was bad.. check this out: ((?:[0-2][0-9])|(?:[3][0-1]))(?:[\/]|[-])((?:[0][0-9])|(?:[1](?:[10]|[11]|[12])‌))(?:[\/]|[-])((?:[0-1][0-6])|(?:[4-9][0-9]))
Which I am -- right now -- rewriting

I'm suspect that that doesn't even work as intended.

What's this? (?:[10]|[11]|[12])‌

I literally forget. I wrote it 2 days ago LOL
That's why I'm going to try again
But on all the test cases he provided, it worked. And the invalid cases.
Also in that image you don't see the part where he says "must be done using regular expression". I promise I'm only doing it because I have to ;)
[10]|[11]|[12] is me thinking I would be matching the numbers 10, 11, or 12.. which I see is sadly.. sadly wrong

@200_success I think it checks for single digits and 10, 11 and 12.

But it doesn't right, it checks for 1 or 0, 1 or 1, 1 or 2?

So that part is the 10, 11 and 12 part.

OK. It's probably correct, but works in a lame way due to a misunderstanding of character classes.

Yup lol @200_success

It's most probably not how it should be done, but I wouldn't be surprised if it works like a charm.

That would get me a 100%. Guarantee it.
But I can't stand it now -- after seeing how tidy your solution to my other post was. I learned a bit about how expressions are constructed so I'm going to try again and see if i can't do much better
