@DanPantry @JeroenVannevel okay I'll take that as a sign that not only me finds these messages out of place here...

@Vogel612 I know they're out of place

"You've been invited to Get Trashed"

I'm so flagging the next 'ITS FRIDAY' reference

Please don't. There will be a bunch of mods/people tell you off

@Vogel612 You know, we got the Nth for that.

Note that the conversation is edging toward the deep end of the chat policies

@Quill No they wouldn't -- it's equally off topic
I'm not interested in them so I just skip those conversations altogether
But if I had mod powers I could just as well remove them to thrash

@Mast I daresay that those are appropriate about nowhere. not even the nth

There have been a bunch of similar, yet worse, conversations on a few chat rooms that ended in CM intervention and chat suspension

Q: Class template for stack in C++

Ivan ChakHere is the original requirements: Write a class template for a linked-list implementation of a stack. But you got a point there.

Nice beard.
When I can grow one, getting one.

@EasterlyIrk VBA is awesome!

The only way to grow a beard like that is to go through a db_send_mail messup

@Quill @Phrancis must have a monster of a beard by now then.

Q: A Rust iterator to match and replace subsequences

Peter HallI needed to do transformations on a data stream, not on an element-by-element basis, but on subsequences. This is what I've come up with: https://github.com/peterjoel/rust-iter-replace/blob/master/src/lib.rs I am relatively new to Rust, and would love some feedback on any areas of the code: styl...

Q: Turn log into fancy data

MastI'm logging data from an embedded platform over UART. This gets saved to a log file and I want to process the saved log with Excel. I have no idea whether what I did was even remotely a good solution. My VBA experience so far consists mainly of code only used once. However, since I'll have to us...

@Mast I might have to use that code :)

Q: Implementing static and non-static methods with the same name

KolyunyaI've found some strange (for me) behavior of the PHP interpreter and I'm not sure if it's safe to use it in production or not. When we call Foo::bar() and the Foo class does not have the static bar method but it has non-static bar method, the interpreter will invoke non-static bar on null (which...

denisI'm currently working on the Project Euler exercise's and I just finished the eleven exercise. possible answer invalidation by bbyalcinkaya on question by bbyalcinkaya: codereview.stackexchange.com/posts/124459/revisions

I tried to edit this with the project-euler tag, but it got declined? Why?

10:57 PM
I found a bug in Roslyn that makes it crash.
Public Overrides Function DefaultSwitchSection(statements As IEnumerable(Of SyntaxNode)) As SyntaxNode
    Return SyntaxFactory.CaseBlock(
        SyntaxFactory.CaseStatement(SyntaxFactory.ElseCaseClause()),
        GetStatementList(statements))
End Function
That is a non-else block/statement trying to take an else clause.
It should be:
Public Overrides Function DefaultSwitchSection(statements As IEnumerable(Of SyntaxNode)) As SyntaxNode
    Return SyntaxFactory.CaseElseBlock(
        SyntaxFactory.CaseElseStatement(SyntaxFactory.ElseCaseClause()),
        GetStatementList(statements))
End Function

@EasterlyIrk Because the project-euler tag shouldn't even exist...

oops

Question^ is closed as UWYA
Should really be closed because code is broken... what to do...

@Hosch250 I need you to check this for primeN(10001):
bool isPrime(int value)
{
    if (value < 2) { return false }
    if (value % 2 == 0) { return value == 2 }
    if (value % 3 == 0) { return value == 3 }
    if (value % 5 == 0) { return value == 5 }

    for (int divisor = 7; divisor * divisor <= value; divisor += 30)
    {
        if (value % divisor == 0) { return false }
        if (value % (divisor + 4) == 0) { return false }
        if (value % (divisor + 6) == 0) { return false }
        if (value % (divisor + 10) == 0) { return false }
        if (value % (divisor + 12) == 0) { return false }

OK.

And compare the speed to the other solutions in this post:

A: Project Euler #7 10001st prime

nhgrif bool isPrime = true; for (int j = 2; j < i / 2; j++) { if (i%j != 0) continue; isPrime = false; break; } if (!isPrime) continue; This is one of the most primitive and least efficient ways to calculate whether or not a value is prime. First and foremost, we deserve a method which ...

I'll wait until my unit tests stop running to get a better time. These tests are just eating CPU.

And also confirm that my algorithm in primeN is giving the right result for 10,001

11:47 PM
104743

Is that what my solution gives? Or what the answer should be? Or hopefully both?

What the answer should be.
Running it now.
@nhgrif If this is C#, you are sure missing a lot of semi-colons.

lol
I need to change my second method anyway

Right, that is slow.
Running now.
isPrime runs in 0 milliseconds.

you're measuring something wrong.

11:59 PM
static void Main()
{
    var stopwatch = new Stopwatch();
    stopwatch.Start();
    var x = isPrime(104743);
    stopwatch.Stop();
    Console.WriteLine(x);
    Console.WriteLine(stopwatch.ElapsedMilliseconds);

    stopwatch.Reset();
    stopwatch.Start();
    var v = primeN(10001);
    stopwatch.Stop();
    Console.WriteLine(v);
    Console.WriteLine(stopwatch.ElapsedMilliseconds);
}
I don't see anything wrong.
It returns the right value too.
primeN still hasn't finished.
