Good night Simon!

I love when websites change.

Q: Fractional knapsack in C++11

vivekian2I am just picking up c++11 and decided to try some algorithmic problems to get better at it. One such problem is the fractional knapsack problem which can be solved by a greedy approach. The idea is to find the most valuable item and fill it in and move on to the next one till the knapsack is fil...

What is the syntax to mark up a SO question link in a SO question? Is there anything special other than just linking?

I think you just link it, and it will change the link to the title.
I'm not certain, though.

Hmm, I will post it and if it don't I will go back and edit it I guess

@DanPantry There's a picture where me, Mat and Mat's Mug close a question. It looks awesome.
Somewhere in this chat.

@Hosch250 you were totally right

I just got accepted for an internship at OSI!!
I thought I'd share with you guys, as I greatly credit CR with my growth and development as a programmer

@syb0rg Congratulations!

Congrats!

Congratulations!

Hmm, I should try for an internship there.
Medina might be close enough.

Q: How to disable log messages from the Requests library in Django

electrometroI seen How do I disable log messages from the Requests library? and I was wondering, how do I do this in Django using the Django logging settings? I tried adding the following to my loggers settings but that didn't work. 'requests': { # The requests library is too verbose in it's logging, ...

10:29 PM
@syb0rg Way to go!

That library is overly verbose IMHO.

@Hosch250 I forgot you lived in MN, which city?

Near St. Paul.
Medina is an hour away.

@Hosch250 Closer than some other people in the interviewing pool I was in

10:33 PM
Oh yes, definately. We have a logging config. Just requests isn't working.

The last one even mentions django.requests

@holroy see recent edit

@electrometro You should add the problem statement to your question so it's no longer behind a link.
If you do that, I'll get you an upvote.

Excel formulas <3

10:41 PM
@electrometro I think it can be better than that.

I hate excel. So many people use it when they should be using a Database because they don't know better.

^^True dat

Here let me save my entire business reports over the last 5 years into this one sheet on excel...

Anyway, I'm off to bed. Will look at it tomorrow.

Sounds like a good idea!

10:41 PM
Writing repetitive SQL formulas from an Excel sheet is wonderful though

@electrometro it's great when it's used as a spreadsheet though ;-)

Q: Git Hook to Generate Commit Summary Based on Comments

Jacob YoungI am writing two Git hooks (bash scripts) to preform text-searching and commit message formatting, and need some review regarding best practice and simplicity of the scripts. The project uses two Git hooks (prepare-commit-msg and post-commit) to grab comments with // @commmit and automatically g...

@electrometro, From the first link:

@CaptainObvious Hey that's a great idea!

@electrometro
> If the disable_existing_loggers key in the LOGGING dictConfig is set to True (which is the default) then all loggers from the default configuration will be disabled. Disabled loggers are not the same as removed; the logger will still exist, but will silently discard anything logged to it, not even propagating entries to a parent logger. Thus you should be very careful using 'disable_existing_loggers': True; it’s probably not what you want.
> Instead, you can set disable_existing_loggers to False and redefine some or all of the default loggers; or you can set LOGGING_CONFIG to None and handle logging config yourself.

@holroy Editted OP to include sample output

@electrometro Hmm... Are you sure you are able to control 3rd party libraries using the Django logging config?

It is working for cqlengine, cassandra and boto as far as I know

The LOGGING is the Django logging configurations handler. Have you tried doing the stuff in your linked article related to limitting the requests module? Did that work?

I haven't tried that directly because I wouldn't really know where to put it. We use it all over the place.

10:53 PM
Hmm... I would try that, in some place where you know logging occurs, and then figure out afterwards, if there are better places to put it
@electrometro Or try adding entries for requests.packages.urllib3.connectionpool and/or connectionpool and/or requests.packages.urllib3. This is possibly one of those cases, where you just have try the different alternatives, as the base could be something else than you would expect.

Ok I think my testing method may be flawed. I need to see if there is a difference between running the services in the console vs running it as a daemon and see if the logging is any different because it could definitely be that.

Q: Check if sum can be found in array

HousemanGiven an array a, check to see if z numbers inside a total up to n So if a = [1,2,3], n=3 and z=2, then this function should return true, since z numbers in that array combine to equal n. This question probably belongs on Code Review. — Kerrek SB 45 secs ago

@Duga not sure, but.... shouldn't this one be rolled back?

@SirPython I was going to put it on hold, but the user deleted it first. The second code sample looked dramatically different from the first, so I doubt that it was written by the same person.

@KerrekSB "A stupid example" doesn't make good code for reviewing. It would be off-topic on Code Review. — 200_success 15 secs ago

Thanks.

Stack Overflow is mainly about problems in code. If you are looking for review for improvements you should post your question on codereview.stackexchange.comPshemo 55 secs ago
I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it concerns optimizing working code, and Stack Overflow is for questions regarding "a practical, answerable problem" (Help center). This question may be on topic for Code Review – but make sure to check their guidelines first. — Jongware 16 secs ago
Well I didn't know so thanks! I'll post to codereview. — Yousef Baitalmal 51 secs ago
This may be a good question for Code Review, so long as: (A) the code works, and (B) it's not hypothetical or incomplete in any way. Please read the on-topic guide before posting, if you choose to go to Code Review. If you have any questions or concerns, join us at our CR Help Desk. — Quill 27 secs ago
This seems like a hypothetical question, which are off-topic on Code Review. — Quill 26 secs ago
