Q: Don't let users earn rep for retagging-only suggested edits

msrd0I often see suggested edits that only retaggs questions. Normally they are correct, but I think they are a too minor to accept them. Since there is no Too Minor option anymore, and I don't think that SE wants me to enter "Too Minor" in the "Causes Harm" box, I have no choice to Approve them (See ...

can't be so bad. which one?

Q: How to remove the shading of a table's borders?

PimgdImage of problem: - Shadow lines ruin the map. Location: http://etrian.wikia.com/wiki/Etrian_Odyssey_Wiki:Sandbox/test3/A1 I wish to make an edittable map of levels in a game for a wiki. It's not answerable in it's current state; there's no html or css to look at.
remove the image and you have "help help it is broken, I have black lines everywhere <link>"
@Pimgd edit that.. please
how did you get upvotes for that in the first place??
@Vogel612 That's the thing...
The original is gone.
shiver
14:22
I don't have the original broken code anymore
I think I should delete it
no leave it up
and now you got another vote, haha
yeah it was me
@Malachi why
because it explains that Style Sheets are layered and will overwrite sheets that were executed prior to itself
14:24
the first was me: I saw your answer, and I remembered similar pains I have felt many times
it's an important concept
and it also says, that your CSS may not be the last CSS rendered,
should it get retagged with css then
and you should edit your answer to state what malachi said...
because in it's current form you'll get this thing shot down as soon as you edit..
Yes and what @Vogel612 said

Q: Refactoring a small function

14:27
what happened was that your Border was set first and then the CSS for the Wiki came through and set the border for everything, again.
add all that wonderful information into your answer and I will upvote it for sure
all these words and half of which I don't even understand
:)
wait,
page CSS loads AFTER the style attributes?
is this because of async?
?? no... it's just that the css that comes later in the document overrides the css before it..
@Malachi do you have any targets on other SE sites at the moment? (I'm almost out of ammo here)
14:30
is css usually placed in the footer?
umm... no
usually you place css in the head..
via <link rel="stylsheet" type="text/css" src="style.css" />
but then that's not it
the css was in the head
but if you got 2 css files, they both are applied...
I recall us putting the styling on the <table> element and it not working
now it uses a css class
btw did the vote reversal rules change recently? I thought I could reverse a vote for a few hours, but now it seems to be 5 minutes. My memory fails me maybe?
14:36
nope it's been 5 minutes since as long as I remember..
if you put style rules on the CSS and on the table, the CSS wins right
you can change your vote after an edit, though..
@Pimgd no....
class < id < inline
okay then I still don't know what we did
but interestingly this only happens if you overwrite the same rule
all else even, they just add up..

14:40
what if it says important in the css
bleh
I'm just gonna get that edit wrong anyway
then non-important overrides are ignored...
until you get a higher prioritized !important rule...
which makes !important slightly m00t..
The thing is that I didn't fix the issue, so I don't know how exactly it was fixed
and I didn't have access to the non-minified css
Can no more be reproduced...
dang I have to wait for others to VTC the darn thing

So... would "You need a ; at the end" be a valid point?
(Aside from being the saddest review ever)
and not really being correct either way??
the ; is not needed.
But!
The reason you use a ; is to indicate
...
... that your statement is finished.
Which end-of-string does as well ;-)
No, because that can be developer mistake
distractions such as coworkers, coffee, lunch, time to go home and various other things cause end of string too
You put a nice semicolon there, you indicate that you are DONE
14:58
@Pimgd if you really want to review it, I'd suggest going for the names in the temp table...
I have no domain knowledge and I understand almost zilch there,...
I don't really want to review it... it's SQL

@Yann4 now how'd you get that idea ?? ;)

@Yann4 is it just me, or are the documenting comments too.. spacious??
@Vogel612 I assumed that it was for some sort of documentation auto-generation
15:44
@rolfl lol. I need to keep an eye on those review queues. need to get my numbers up for the big election. I usually just go through the newest questions list.
Well that's it for today, folks..

Bye
@Malachi That makes me break out in a cold sweat..... you going to try for marshall?
@Pimgd I looked at that SQL question and can't see anything I would change. I have not used MERGE before but it looks fairly straightforward. Maybe I'll write something pointing out what I find that they have done well.
15:47
@rolfl :) thanks for the confidence... yeah I need more badges.
@Phrancis I am working on a comment right now. it should be done in the .NET code with a Gridview I think.... I am looking into it right now.
in C++ can you write windows path like this? -> "C:/Users/UserNameHere/Desktop/test.xml" that is, instead of "C:\\Users\\UserNameHere\\Desktop\\test.xml"
Thank you, first-post reviewers, much better:
@Phrancis I think I might be wrong, I just read ("more than just the code")
@janos I think that you can, based of this question's comment stackoverflow.com/a/843089/1924068
That's quite a few first posts for one day!
15:53
@Yann4 you meant, cannot, right?
@rolfl why don't you like the thought of me as a Moderator? I ask lots of questions, I participate in Meta, I review, I edit, I vote, I participate in chat, I participate in other Stack Communities (not as much as I do in CR) ...
@Malachi I think you misunderstand ... I don't like the idea of having to process 500 flags or so to get Marshal. ;)
@rolfl I already have almost 150
for some reason I thought that was the Review queue badge when you first said it....lol
Not that I won't, just that, if everyone decides to ramp up their stats before an election ....
Deputy is enough, isn't it?
15:56
Anything is enough.... I think coming out of beta for the first election, things are different.
I have been Ramping up my stats for a while, before the announcement even, I think this is a great place to show my skills and such, so I post my profile on my resume
Also, now that I am a mod, my numbers can't be improved .... so, if/when an election happens, the stats will be in other people's favor... ;(
Aren't we just going to re-elect our current mods? (hides)
6
I hope all our current mods will nominate
3
btw how many mods will be elected? 3?
I think the next 6-8 months could change a lot of things... if the elections were tomorrow, I would.
@janos not certain about the numbers. The CM's would have to decide.
15:59
but at least 3, right?
ok that's obvious
Should be 3 or 4
3 seems to be the minimum. Sites with our activity level have about 4, some more, some less.
More 4 than 3
probably
now that will be interesting

@RubberDuck do you think that doing what OP is doing is more efficient than my approach?
I've got a naming problem... How would you call a design element that is always visible on your application and has one dynamic part that can be changed?
@Malachi I think so actually. Of course, I can't be sure without actually bench marking both methods.
@RubberDuck Even with the Creation of a Table and the Dropping of the Table every time it's run. that takes a little bit from the SQL Server just for that. and the Temp Table isn't even indexed... no primary key or anything.
17:43
@Malachi I don't know MS stuff, but my instinct says yes, it's more efficient than row-by-row calls, that this is the purpose of MERGE
@Malachi Well, that's a fair point.
no index on the Temp table wouldn't seem an issue, unless there will be really high number of records (1000s?)
@Malachi That's a good idea, it would be interesting to see if the query could be improved by indexing appropriate columns on the temp table. I wonder if the OP would be willing to post bench mark stats.
but yes, the temp table solution is ugly

20:12
@CaptainObvious That is an interesting question!
@SimonAndréForsberg In most unit testing frameworks, we have to write assertEqual(a, b) so that, in case of failure, the function is able to print the values of a and b separately. With Catch, writing REQUIRE(a == b) can still print separately then values of a and b in case of failure.
It's more expressive but still as powerful as other frameworks.
@Morwenn that does sound very useful
Also, there is no need to write classes for the tests. There is some clever macro trickery behind that I can't explain.

@Morwenn what language is it? C++?
I lost 30 rep today :(
What user got removed?
(obviously can't be answered, I know)
> When you use the ++ operator in C/C++, it increments a variable by one. It can also be used in an expression. If you put the ++ before the variable name (like ++x) it will return the value of the variable after being incremented. But if you put the ++ after the variable (like x++) it returns the value before being incremented. According to Wikipedia, C++ was named C++ because it "adds" to C. But it's called C++, not ++C, so that means C++ is the language as it was before the extra stuff was added to it, i.e. just plain C.

@Morwenn Does it use Macros?

@RubberDuck when I count down for my children the get until 0 not until 1. but that's because I am a nice guy and don't like taking privileges away
2
when did all this Voter ring stuff happen?
@Malachi I've never made it to 1.
They seem to cave in at just after 2.
my wife get's there, but that's because I start getting out of my chair at 2 and I start at 3 instead of 5
but when she gets to 0 she just gives them a time out or makes them do what they were asked to do in the first place.
we aren't very hard on our kids... they listen pretty good for the most part.
she actually for the longest time would count the other way, from 1 to 5....I never understood that....
@Malachi Perpetual threat! You can keep going until they're bored enough without having to cross that boundary of 0 which requires an action
Mental torture, they'll never know when it ends
very effective
LOL
Kids like Boundaries. why do you think they test them all the time, they want to know where they are of course
