@DanPantry This amuses me, curry on.

man, the Sage 300 developer portal is so freakin' pathetic compared to SE, it's unreal.
> They managed to return him back to his original white colour but have not been able to wash away the smell.
lol

@Mat'sMug what did he tell his family when he came back? Will he always be know as "that curry smelling gull"? This seems to be a tv-series I need to watch.

Q: how to adding auto increment in java and to insert data

nadya carissaConnection ca = null; Statement a = null; //STEP 2: Register JDBC driver Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"); //STEP 3: Open a connection System.out.println("Connecting to a selected database..."); ca = DriverManager.getConnection(DB_URL, USER, PASS); a = ca.createS...

@skiwi It's called "Logistic regression". And if you understand Neural Networks, you can also understand logistic regression. LR is essentially a NN but with 0 hidden layers.
@syb0rg I can highly recommend Machine Learning on Coursera, that was when it all made sense to me

@SimonForsberg Long time since I mentioned ML haha

@syb0rg Not my fault that you are discussing Machine Learning without me!

@CaptainObvious wat..

@SimonForsberg Google just released another video yesterday: youtube.com/…
Writing their own simple classifier
@Vogel612 User's profile makes them look young

7:21 PM
@syb0rg Hmm.... looks quite simple.

@SimonForsberg They're quality videos, but released very sparsely
Usually once every two weeks, but this last video was late
At this rate I'll be a machine learning expert by the ripe ol' age of 96
@SimonForsberg Which Coursera class?

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it is requesting a code reviewQuentin 22 secs ago

Just in time for the singularity!

@syb0rg Maybe you should learn a machine to release such videoes quicker.

Q: Tic Tac Toe C++ sans Classes

StormsEdgeFirst full program in C++. I'm having trouble understanding when I should use classes and when I should not. Ultimately, after this review, I would love to have a better idea of what circumstances I should use classes and how I can more efficiently write in c++. I plan to rewrite the program ...

Q: How can I make this code run efficiently, especially asynchronously efficient?

marvindanigI've got a node_module that reads ArcValues for a user and updates the configuration of the client in the user's local at the root. Like so: function register(username, password) { const ProgressBar = require('progress'); const chalk = require('chalk'); const request = require('supe...

7:28 PM
Note that the help center page @Quentin linked to explicitly states that example code (e.g. //Do Something) is off-topic on Code Review - if you're going to ask there, you'll have to post your real, actual, working code. — Mat's Mug 56 secs ago

@syb0rg The Machine Learning course took me 11 weeks (but you can do it faster)

@SimonForsberg Just enrolled
@SimonForsberg You have much faith in my speed...

@syb0rg Okay, I could say "it's possible to do it faster". Once the course starts you have access to everything you need to finish the course

I am looking forward to seeing a computer learn chess from scratch
Wonder if it's openings would differ from the ones you find in any standard chessbook.

The good part is that I still have access to all the material, even though I finished the course about four months ago

7:33 PM
@N3buchadnezzar July community challenge?

@MichaelBrandonMorris Why not just make prove that P = NP?
Really impressive that Google was able to "beat"Go.

@SimonForsberg I wonder if I'll want the certificate at the end

@N3buchadnezzar I liked the comment though... The power-consumption Human vs. AlphaGO is an incredible ratio

@Vogel612 Yeah. The computer actually timed out in one of the games

@syb0rg Yes you want.

7:37 PM
@SimonForsberg Did you get one? Do people notice it on resumes and such?

If anyone knows C#, I now have two completely unanswered questions with bounties.

@SimonForsberg How much is it ?

@Marc-Andre Free, certificate is $50

Afternoon

@DJanssens Hello

7:41 PM
@SimonForsberg Is it a lot of work ?

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because working code and best-practice questions are better suited to Code Review (codereview.stackexchange.com). — Two-Bit Alchemist 1 min ago

@syb0rg it landed me my current job.

@SimonForsberg That's some late - but completely correct - reply ;)

@DJanssens Really? What is it that you do?

Data scientist

7:51 PM
Interesting
Perhaps I shall invest in it
The field really does pique my interest

It's pretty interesting. :)

I'm kinda stuck on continuing Khronos before delving deeper into the field too
Since later features will depend on some machine learning stuff I would like to implement into the foundation

If you know which algorithm you want to use, and you have correctly working code, and you want to optimise it, I think codereview.stackexchange.com would be the best place to ask, yes. — m69 13 secs ago

@EBrown I remember having to remind you about something. I also remember starring you lacking a better idea because it would be such a long time till you were finished with your job.
Keep in mind, 02:00 there is 09:00 or so here.

Thank you for your comments. I will post the review on codereview.stackexchange.com in 40 minutes when I am able to. Would it be more appropriate to ask a question on this site when my code has a problem, like if I attempted to make a subclass and I did it incorrectly? @Two-BitAlchemist — Ara Yaghsizian 8 secs ago

@BernardMeurer Hello!

What's up folks?
Has anyone around here messed with Jekyll/Github pages?

@BernardMeurer Yes

@syb0rg Yeah I got one. I think it has improved my CV a bit

8:12 PM

@Marc-Andre 4-8 hours per week

@SimonForsberg Can I purchase it at the end of the course?

@syb0rg Could you give me a hand? I set up a GHPages website a while back, and it worked fine, but recently all of a sudden it hasn't been working at all and I have no clue what the heck is happening. Source, Site

@BernardMeurer It's been a while since I've worked with them as well, and I'm not very good at web development stuff

@syb0rg That's alright, thanks though :)

8:17 PM
@SimonForsberg Have you been watched?

@syb0rg You can decide to take a certificate before the course finishes
@Donald.McLean Like hell I've been!
I'm only gonna be watched two more times though, I believe

You are correct.
I was thinking about the POI card game some more, and I realize that the trickiest part is to come up with a good McGuffin system.
In particular, creating a mechanism by which the accomplishment of McGuffin missions eventually contributes to the success of the player's organization.

@Donald.McLean An irrelevant number which turns out relevant, perhaps?

8:32 PM
@Mast Then it is no longer irrelevant.

@N3buchadnezzar Have you seen the series?

@Mast On a TV show like POI, the audience can see, over the course of a season, how the success or failure of one mission can affect the entire world. How does that kind of thing get represented in a game?

All numbers are interesting. Assume by contradiction that the claim is false. Then there must exists a set of uninteresting numbers. If there is only one such number, that would make it interesting. Now the smallest number in the set of uninteresting numbers is interesting, because it is the smallest. And we have reached a contradiction.

@N3buchadnezzar We're not talking about math.

I know :p

8:42 PM
@Donald.McLean It's tough.

@Mast Yes, but asking the right question is the first step in solving it.

Q: Classes and Subclasses in Python. Why, when and how should they be used?

Ara YaghsizianI am new at programming and new to stackoverflow.com. Today I am practicing classes and subclasses in python. Can someone give me an example of a subclass in the short program I created? Why is a subclass necessary instead of just adding methods to the class? Can you please make a simple subclass...

@Donald.McLean That's usually how solving problems goes, yes.
@CaptainObvious Sounds offtopic.

@Mast The part after the code is on topic
But there is a lot of noise

I think it also depends how long you want the game to last.

8:58 PM
Welcome to Code Review! I've removed the noise and off-topic questions from your post, but I'll leave it up to you to come up with a better title and edit it so that it tells reviewers what your code is doing - rule of thumb on this site, if your question title is worded like a question, something is wrong. The watermark says "state the task that your code accomplishes; make it distinctive." — Mat's Mug ♦ 7 secs ago
salvaged?

Kind of.

I received an answer on my CR question today. It includes several very helpful style pointers, but does not fully address the questions I laid out in my OP.

I have up-voted the answer (because it is helpful), but not accepted it (because it doesn't fully address my questions, and I hope another answer will come along which addresses my concerns more completely).

Is this the right way to treat it? Or should I accept the answer, then change my acceptance to a different answer if a better one comes along?

Q: Scraping the date of most recent post from various social media services

A_S00Task I have a large spreadsheet where each line should include: The URL of a social media account A field indicating whether the account is "active" A name and UID number for each account I have to find if the activity field is accurate for every account on the list, and fix any mismatches. ...

@Jimmy this is still a code review question that should be asked elsewhere — vol7ron 52 secs ago

@A_S00 if it doesn't address your concerns, don't accept it, other answers will come along
@A_S00 I added a bounty to your question, so you should have some more answers come along soon :)

9:57 PM
You're a pal! And I mean it about the style pointers being helpful, just also want to know about the specific stuff at the bottom.

@Quill Ugh, they're single point answers
@A_S00 no worries :)

10:11 PM
@BernardMeurer you broke the baseurl in your config settings ^

10:53 PM
oh my word I am so done
export default class EmailTemplateService {
  static $inject: string[] = ['$http']

  constructor(private $http: angular.IHttpService, private baseApiUrl: string) { }
there are a few methods inside of EmailTemplateService that utilise baseApiUrl
but they would never work, because Angular will see $inject only wanting $http and ignore the other parameters
no wonder uploads/downloads aren't working
..

wait what's wrong with that, besides baseApiUrl not being injected?

@Quill Because if baseApiUrl is never injected, it will be undefined
uploadUrl will try to concatenate baseApiUrl to another part of a url
so uploadUrl gives you an invalid URL, which means upload breaks

perks of a bad dependency injection method

perks of copy pasta
delicious copy pasta

11:06 PM
@Quill check out nuclide by Facebook, BTW. it's seriously impressing me right now

oh yeah, I saw that the other day when I was trying to figure out how to get Atom to understand react
30 mins to figure out I just had to add an x to the end of the file extensions <_<

lol

you'll all be happy to know that the 3rd date went absolutely lovely
pics incoming on facebook
would've been a truly lovely day if I didn't come home to find water seeping through the ceiling

lol
Yo @JeroenVannevel are you going to the AWS meetup on the 7th july? in london somewhere
also paging @Zak

mm no but I am going to the Stackoverflow conference on June 21st
is the AWS thing free?

11:15 PM
Hm, where is that?
Not sure about the AWS one

@JeroenVannevel there's a wat

London

got any of those sweet sweet links? @JeroenVannevel

I received an invitation through email but I think anyone can sign up

bah, that's not on for very long

11:18 PM
it's part of a broader event that spans the week
but yeah, just a few hours

Don't think I could justify travelling to london just for 4 hours

looks like it'll be about women in tech and tech talent in general

women in tech? that's my favourite kind of women

not my favourite subjects but it's free and it means most of the day off so meh

/s
seriously, though, I'd go, but I can't really justify goign for only 4 hours

11:19 PM
I've got a few cuties at my workplace

plus it's on a work day
So do I
Oh wait, that's me

hoho this man

they have monthly JS meetups near where I live... I've been considering going to them, but they can never find speakers <_<

where do you live then?
I looked for .NET meetups back in belgium but there was nothing
might start going here in London

@Quill lives down under

11:21 PM
once I get a better laptop from IT
oh right, aussie

There's a SQL meet up near me
That's it
Pretty sure some people there would have careers older than I am

lol, absolute shitload of meetups near me
many with 1000+ members
okay

I get the feeling tech meetups are either all hardcore hipsters or old curmudgeons

@JeroenVannevel you're in london
1000 is a small crowd

11:24 PM
I see a 10k one but most others are below 3k

you could probably fit 1000 people in a single starbucks in london
though it may be more of a Squeezebucks than starbucks at that point
LOL
I've been working so long with watcher going with about 1-2k files in memory that Node has run out of memory
i have 24GB of RAM
I didn't think it was possible, but I've exhausted 24GB of RAM.

that's wrong on so many levels...

I'm not sure whether to be impressed or horrified

mostly the latter here :D

that's pretty horrifying. you need to use a smaller solution

11:32 PM
not much to do
it's a CRM
it's going to be huge
ofc, this solution is still larger than needs be, I grant you

Q: Random Chutes and Ladders Board Generator (June 2016 Community Challenge)

josliberThis is my submission for the June 2016 Community Challenge. It is R code that takes as input the number of squares on the board, the desired number of chutes and ladders, and the desired total sum of the chute and ladder deltas. It then samples uniformly at random from all feasible boards with t...

Q: Generic graph implementation in C#

VardominatorI am implementing fundamental data structures in C# while trying to learn techniques in the language to make my code cleaner, more concise, and reusable. I have implemented a generic graph with a few elementary search algorithms. What are some ways to improve my implementation and coding style? ...

@Holger Yes, even though this isn't codereview.SE, there are several odd things about this code. 1) One might think getPathsInternal returns data that the caller owns and can manipulate, or it requires the caller to make copies, not one or the other based on a conditional. 2) The conditional copying is based on the data's type, which seems quite brittle. 3) The originals or copies are LinkedList, which as you say is the wrong choice 99% of the time. I agree. I'm wondering if this is an XY problem.Stuart Marks 1 min ago
