It wouldn't compile if there was any execution path without a return.

To Rob and @MitchWheat, I wanted to see what people thinks on that, so I created this: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/115953/…cFrozenDeath just now

I'm not sure I need to abstract that far back though

Q: C++ Super Simple HTML Tag Generating Code v0.1

Gustavo6046I made this simple code which makes easy HTML tag generation. It is open-source and right now only makes tag names and replaces tags... :/ #include <iostream> #include <fstream> std::string makeHtmlTags(std::string tagname, std::string tagcontent) { return "<" + tagname + ">" + tagcontent + "<

Action and Func<TResult> are delegate types @Hosch250 ;-)

An Action is just a Func with a void return type

Yup
I'd even say a Func is just an Action with a non-void return value

Some might even go as far as saying a Func and an Action are the same except one has a return type and the other doesn't

12:36 AM
delegate void Action<T>(T parameter);

you can assign a wpf label a string reference right?

@JeroenVannevel which is probably the closest to the CS definition

The label's content yes, not the label itself
A label's content is usually the text of a TextBlock, but WPF lets you redefine that at will
That's what's so cool about WPF/XAML - you're not constrained by a fixed set of controls anymore
Need a circle button? Redefine what the button looks like

It's not unlike Qt's slots and signals.

@Edward delegates? Or UI controls?

12:42 AM
@Mat'sMug Both.

soo. @Edward did you see the resistor mania?

@Vogel612 Yes, I saw it. It made my heart sing!
I upvoted both the question and answers without really understanding much of any of it.
(I don't know Haskell yet.)

Q: Lazy WebAPI object

David PriceI am working to design an object which would abstract away the use of a WebAPI. I want the developer to be able to use these objects as if they are using a traditional API. My core problem is how to abstract the interactions with the WebAPI. I currently use an Interface which is initialized in ...

@Quill I wouldn't start learning C# with bare delegates ;-)
...and watch out for the all mighty WallMartException!

1:22 AM
@Vogel612 Here's what I like: youtube.com/watch?v=gSkKSviyPKk

Yeah, I think I'm letting JavaScript's use of callbacks influence what I'm doing
I wonder what it was that I screwed up there
> A first chance exception of type 'System.Reflection.TargetException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
InnerException is null and the Message is Object does not match target type
huh. well, that's a good sign I'm probably trying to work on a street covered in glass on my hands. with my eyes blindfolded

You shouldn't care about first chance exception normally
does it actually interrupt your program flow?

what do you mean?

does the exception make your program stop?

well, yeah, I guess.

1:32 AM
first chance exceptions are exceptions thrown inside the framework

it was trying to execute the method with no exceptions

how do you use that method you wrote?

Start walking before you run: invoke an Action delegate without parameters first

@JeroenVannevel a gist

The exception I get when I run it is more descriptive
Exception occured:

TargetParameterCountException
Parameter count mismatch.
and it's because you're invoking the wrong thing
parameters and optional parameters aren't separated
the first argument is the object, the second argument are the parameters

1:38 AM
static is mudding the water further IMO

This will work:
return del.Method.Invoke(del, new[] { parameters});

@JeroenVannevel Oh, I see. Thanks for the help :-)
actually I still get the same issue...

works just fine
if you still get that FC exception you probably have to change your breakpoint setting
can you press 'continue' after it breaks on the exception?
You'll probably notice it works just fine

1:56 AM
well, no
it returns null

even when you use my code?

so it works when I run the example
but when I run another function, it fails

good enough
that means I'm not the problem
don't swallow the exception if you want to figure it out

Well, adding Markdown Markup to GitHub with MIT license.
Gah, I need to figure Git out.

@CaptainObvious Lazy huh. I've seen that word last night when reading about singletons
I think that means the object won't even exist at all unless and until it becomes needed?

2:20 AM
@Quill I have a GitHub repo for it.

@EBrown where are you stuck?

@Mat'sMug I can tell... lol

@Vogel612 Well, I think I accidentally broke my Git by creating a new branch.

probably not...

@EBrown You need to create a new repo, then immediately push.

2:23 AM
@EBrown It's not a quick fix, but I highly recommend reading this

wanna hop over to the Nth for some troubleshooting?

I fixed it, fortunately.

You cannot create a readme or put a license in or anything, or it will have completely different histories.
It probably took me 10 repos to figure that out.

Yeah, I created a new branch immediately and it didn't like it.
So, I deleted all the .git stuff and added it to the repo, then rebased it instead.
That worked.
That's Markdown Markup.

urk... you... argh, that's a broken way to fix it

2:25 AM

@Hosch250 you could also just pull before committing your local stuff..

So, yeah, no CR mention
our design came out two days after the last podcast

Alright, so Markdown Markup is setup.
The next thing I need to do with it is keyboard shortcuts. (CTRL + O, CTRL + N, CTRL + S)
Wow, 4 stars already?

Sure, why not. It's a cool idea methinks, plus you're having fun with it, and we're all learning a little bit

Eventually I want to be able to go Markdown -> BBCode as well.
But that's further down the line.

@cfrick "You can ignore the actual content of the function" sounds like it's not really a fit for Code Review. Code Review is all about working code that does things, where it's relevant what happens. as such this is probably not a good fit for the site :/ — Vogel612 54 secs ago
