hai
Good Morning

@overexchange Hi

@Mehrad what's ProgressedAmount?

It's the name I chose for my binding :D
can change it. It's there from the draft

yes, but it maps to a property getter on your ViewModel, right?

Can I bind straight to the Handler :P

					<th bgcolor="#bcbcc0">

						<a href="456.jsp" onMouseOver="" onMouseOut=""></a>

YES it does for sure

is ReportProgress what you call the "handler"?

We have a giant piece of code here

can somebody help me with syntax in the bottom of this code?

Yes...
I fed him to the Progress like this

6:03 AM
<apputil:menu menuType="OC_MENU" />

        var progressIndicator = new Progress<int>(ReportProgress);

@overexchange nope. HTML & I don't talk.

:)

I am HTML illiterate as well @overexchange, sorry

6:04 AM
@overexchange is there documentation for apputil:menu somewhere?

@Mat'sMug should have called it Action<T> rather

i am trying in html chat room

@Mehrad you're confusing "handler" with "delegate"

@overexchange and nobody is around?
@Mat'sMug yes, just a mistake. quite tired

so Progress<int> is a delegate type?

6:08 AM
Yes... progress recieves and Action<T>
I went with this but didn't get results
    private void ReportProgress(int value)
    {
        ProgressedAmount = value;
    }
    public int ProgressedAmount { set; get; }
I guess the property which binds to the UI can't be autoproperty

have you tried normal binding to a VM property for the progressbar value, and modifying the VM progress value, "the normal way" first?
IIRC "it just works"

I guess if I expand it and write a proper setter / getter it should be fine

yes it can
but you need to send a PropertyChanged event to the UI
your VM implements INotifyPropertyChanged right?
it not, do that.

Yes for sure

public int ProgressedAmount { get { return _progressAmount; } set { _progressAmount = value; NotifyPropertyChanged("ProgressedAmount"); } }
private int _progressAmount;

6:11 AM
I went for autoproperty since I though why shoudl I need a private variable something like private int _progressAmount; after all if I am not gonna use it anywhere
but I guess it needs to be there anyways

you can't use an autoproperty and notify the view with the setter

monking

hey

that's correct
that's all. all the info I needed

I think it's all that was missing from that attempt.

monking @Unihedro

oh sorry

Does anyone here work with Pascal or Delphi? I'm wondering if it's worth bitpacking an integer array with the {$BITPACKING on} compiler directive, but their manual is utterly silly when it comes to compiler directives.

hi @Unihedro, and no, not me
maybe you could look at the recent top posters in those tags
I recall very few pascal or dephi questions here

@janos I know, that language is like dead and stupid and outfashioned, but our programming course just had to use that language.
3
And I hate not being able to optimize most of this.

I liked Pascal at uni
I'm sad I don't see it anywhere today

7:01 AM
It was once a powerful and affordable language, with a decent compiler compared to others. It was also more "newbie friendly", but MEH
Welcome to the world of gen-3 languages in popular culture, with y'know, Java, Python, Rust, Ruby...

Do you use Turbo pascal? Do we have 32 bit versions available?

C on the other hand (something very similar in my mind) survived very well

Bloody hell, I have posted an answer in SO and the OP edited my answer to put his updated screenshot to show that my solution didn't work in float numbers or some sh#te and some reviewers actually approved it... WTH

@Heslacher Yes, I love bitpacking, and when I use C++ I alternate between bitpacking and pointer packing in optimization fashions. The article is well done, though a bit old.

7:04 AM
@Mehrad calm down, roll back, move on

But seriously, I need an optimization equivalent in Pascal.
@Mehrad Link ples?
(Also, it's *on SO, not in...)

@janos, I am practicing deep breathing atm ^^

@Mehrad Thanks, I think I caught a robo-reviewer ;)

robo reviewer :O is that a bot or a slang for somebody who doesn't even have a look?

never ever let SO piss you off

7:08 AM
@Mehrad SOlang for "reviewers who repeatedly click the same button to farm a badge"

from what I can see all he did was to approve :D what is this creature...
@Unihedro now that you got him can I put my foot on him and take a hunting photo ? :D

well, sometimes people just make a mistake

@Unihedro, @janos, jokes aside, thanks

one review per minute doesn't make it a robo

@janos If education cannot be commenced, I will flag. ;) Ideally, a healthy ecosystem is when all reviewers pay attention and make no mistakes.

7:12 AM
@Unihedro would have a privilege to extract that photo from my answer and put it somewhere that I can see. preferably the OP's question.

we all make mistakes sometimes
and you can roll back
when somebody else re-rolls back repeatedly, then there is a problem
I see nothing malicious here, just a simple mistake
far worse things can happen on SO, trust me

that's true.

in Please don't approve minor or invalid edits on Stack Overflow Chat, 6 secs ago, by Unihedro
@pawan @MurtazaHussain: 6881393 is invalid as it is an attempt to comment.
@janos And then people get suspended. :p
Murt's review history is healthier though, and pawan's is upsetting.

uhm
ok, so the link I looked at above was the wrong one
this does look very much like a robo reviewer: stackoverflow.com/users/1061944/murtaza-hussain?tab=activity

7:17 AM
and yes, sandeep's edit was a bad edit, but he has 20 rep, a rookie, and users like him do all kinds of crap, it's very common

@janos that's true. I don't think I even knew how to edit when I was 20 reps. (maybe I did :)). I just couldn't see how reviewers accepted it

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it is Bollox! — Mitch Wheat 7 mins ago

@Jamal Can you brief me on the wording?

@janos That's why we need reviewers to keep that from damaging anything :p

@Mehrad A new user was spamming his blog on two answers and a question.

7:19 AM
@Jamal answers and questions gone

@Unihedro and it worked: the proposed edit was in fact rejected

@Jamal [status-dead]
@janos But barely. Two approves and just one extra rejection to counter isn't practical.

in fact if it slipped through, I wouldn't be surprised: it's SO

@janos If it slipped then it's my flag to ban reviewers for sure, not even going to educate in chat :D

@Unihedro so do you think I can access that picture that OP attempted to put in my answer? cuz then I see what's his problem

7:22 AM
it would be bad, but not unexpected, and not something I'd get upset about, at all

@Mehrad isn't it in the review task?
Can we have a new tag in the room?
in Java on Stack Overflow Chat, Jan 23 at 18:38, by Kylar

@Unihedro my bad. I seen it there but didn't attempt to save it
thanks

@Mehrad Well I went to the activity tab of OP, found the rejected edit, and it was just there, so. :p
Gotta go home now, seeya!

see you @Unihedro

thank you Santa :D
I am creeping towards 1K :D
waited for it for such a long time

today it looks a bit more like leaping than creeping
and Santa says hi ;-)

@Unihedro this is not supposed to happen

@Unihedro Delphi was the first language I learned, about 16 years ago. I can't say I know it well these days though. I don't think using BITPACKING directive will help in your case. AFAIK, bitpacking is when multiple booleans are packed into an int (for example). I doubt the compiler is smart enough to figure out which parts of your ints will be used, so it will just keep it as ints.

@Unihedro I like the dark theme you use for your browser. I got an add-on for firefox which toggles the colors. It helps me read long article without screen blinding me. However it doesn't do it as good as yours does.
@Unihedro I understand. Sure I should be able to see it. But I though me making edits to it will stick

Imo screen blinding happens due to too high brightness and a too dark room, not due to white background of the page

11:39 AM
@skiwi "and"? Sure you didn't mean "or"? Also, I do have a dark room - can't afford to have those crazy new double ringed LED lighting.
And my brightness is really low.

@Unihedro It's a combination of and, if any of them is wrong, then you'll start noticing it
Though low brightness in a dark room might be just bearable

@skiwi Well it's unbearable, until I switch all my widgets on the computer to dark themes.

IMO I have been staring at monitors for the past 20 years and I prefer to read a long article on a dark background :D

Then I'd say it's not ideal, but some people might prefer working in the dark I guess

@Mehrad Me too - white hurts the eyes on long sessions :p

11:42 AM
and I use f.lux cuz it rox :)
@skiwi you clearly got a point. sometimes when I see people staring at a monitor set to 100% brightness(blindness) I just want to show them how setting on the monitor works

my brain is starting to short circuit here @rolfl you posted something and took a screenshot of it, it's going to be the same as it was when you posted it? if you had a screen shot of the font from yesterday and then looked at it again today and they were the same that would make more sense to me....
right?

I don't see a difference.

@Phrancis his screen shots have the same font as my screen, no need

@Malachi - if I took a screen shot yesterday, and another screenshot today, then compared them, and they (the fonts) are the same, then the font has not changed... obviously, you have to be selective about what you compare....
you cant't compare the double-shot.....
