A: C# SocketAsyncEventArgs send and receive

Mat's MugJust a couple observations, unfortunately not directly related to your primary concerns but still [hopefully] valuable input from a code review perspective: The class is tightly coupled with several other classes. This may or may not be problematic, just thought I'd point it out - I consider in...

^^^^ choose the tar.gz , and then extract it. It is a stand-alone jdk folder.

Isn't it still from Oracle then? Not sure what @amon means

You are right... I assumed amon did not want the rpm's though (which are a royal PITA).

rpm?

I'd reject as "invalid edit / attempt to comment", but you might want to approve it

Mh I guess I know too few about linux.

@Mat'sMug If it was someone else's post I'd reject it, but I actually improved this one but changed it slightly. Thanks for the ding

No problem! We should all pay attention to suggested edits in the top bar whenever they show up, these things are urgent to be dealt with - it can hurt us if reviewing edit suggestions takes too long ;)

Still having that weird NPE argh, I am already programming very defensively...

I don't drink caffeine!
And I'm out of bananas

I don't drink bananas either.

@SimonAndréForsberg I think drinking is the easiest way to get caffeine. Never tried smoking it, and I don't like needles.

Har har har. Now you two have been funny for today.

This was a nasty bug...

in 3 upvotes my rounded-up score will read as 9K... slowly but surely, I'll get to 10K!

Unless exploding bear traps.

On SO I only wanted to reach 2K so I could Jamalize posts as I see fit, and start reviewing rejecting edits. Here I want to reach 10K so I can keep all my privileges (minus the 20K's) after we graduate :)

I am really appreciating things like this (and I am being serious): http://codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/45498/array-whose-values-are-the-product-of-every-other-integer/45502#45502
I post an answer, and there are 3 others then posted, all of them better than mine ... ;-)
I am not sure whether it is my focus that has changed in the past week, or whether there are just more people hanging around and answering.
(Note that neither 200_success, Simon, or palacsint are answerers there...)

We may have entered a general rep-whoring slope :)

Which is a good thing ....
(I must admit, my answer above was pretty lame, and was not a good code review).

3:27 PM
@rolfl if I had votes left, I'd downvote it for you (jk)
I find it quite awesome that a question asked 1 hour ago gets 4 answers.

That's just great.

Not just that, but look at all the votes too ;-)
AHA!!!! Found that bug, you bastard!

Yep. If we're lucky, we will be able to graduate in 3 years or 4, when we will have more traffic than SO itself.

Is it just me or is the keyword final not needed anymore in Java 8 to access outside local variables in anonymous inner classes?

@SimonAndréForsberg - Java8 has introduced this concept of effectively final
If a method is delcared, and not changed after the anonymous reference, then it is effectively final.

3:31 PM
Awesome!

Q: Difference between final and effectively final

alexI'm playing with lambdas in Java 8 and I came across warning local variables referenced from a lambda expression must be final or effectively final. I know that when I use variables inside anonymous class they must be final in outer class, but still - what is the difference between final and effe...

@rolfl How on earth could I have missed that Java Zombie?

@rolfl I'm pretty sure effectively final already was there

Time to take my leave. See you later ^^

As the same deal is used with AIC's

3:34 PM
I don't believe so.... it is a Java8 thing.
(introduced specifically so that lambda's would work).

I don't think so
but hang on

Yeah, I also think it's a Java 8 thing
In Java 7 I used to get a compiler error about final every now and then

This works
    List<Integer> testList = new ArrayList<>();
    IntStream.rangeClosed(0, 10)
            .forEach(testList::add);
    testList.forEach(System.out::println);

@Morwenn later!

That is Java8

3:37 PM
You're correct...
@rolfl I know that was supposed to be my reference
Indeed, it's introduced in Java 8

dum-de-dum ;-)

A: array whose values are the product of every other integer

HandymanDanWhy not get the total product and then walk the array (assuming the product is not zero) by taking the total and dividing the value in the current index?

Just because the answer is wrong, does not mean the answer is not an answer ;-)
This is the purpose of down-votes, not flags.

@rolfl it's a question, which means it should have been a comment. it was asking for clarification on the question IMO

if a class is not part of a public API, should I then always make the methods final?

@rolfl I was also considering that. I think I fell for group-pressure this time

@skiwi Not necessarily. Subclasses might need to override it.

@Donald.McLean I mean with non-pubic, that I am in full control of it and I will decide whether I override it or not.

3:53 PM
@rolfl Its only review comment is to say that the OP code should do something which it's doing already. That's useless.

I've had methods that I had to change to protected (from private) so that subclasses could provide specialized functionality.

@skiwi I have found performance benefits to final (despite what others sometimes think/say). If the class is 'mine' then I make it final, because I can undo it later if I need to.

Why can't I upvote my own answers again?

My guess is that it will go svick for C#, 200 for Java, konijn for javascript, and then, the real race will be Mat vs. @Simon for gold.

5:05 PM
yeah - good ol' vs ;)

If @Jamal wants to, he can compete as well on C++
3-way race, C++ vs C# vs Java

I'd have more rep than @SimonAndréForsberg if it wasn't of offered bounties: Simon paid 50pts (so 9,137 rep), I paid 700pts (so 9,190 rep).

It is not about rep or bonuses or accepts....
it is pure upvotes and quantity.
Each up-vote counts as +1 score for the tag.
So, you need 80 more C# answers and about 500 upvotes....
Simon needs 100 more answers, and about 450 upvotes.

that's 6.25 votes/answer, which is ~2 votes higher than my current average
I'll probably need ~120 more C# answers

So, you can get more answers out there.... you have to qualify on both answer-count and score.
For example, @konijn needs a better score/answer ratio ...

5:10 PM
@Mat'sMug yeah yeah, blame the bounties :)

@SimonAndréForsberg race to 10K?

@Mat'sMug You're on!
You do know that I have 600 rep head-start though?

That's possible in 4 rep-max days + accepts .....

7 unanswered in , 58 unanswered in ... odds of catching up are on my side ;)

rep-max will be the limiting factor
200 + 3-accepts is 245 .... per day.
plus bounties.

5:14 PM

I somehow get the feeling I should start to slowly post questions here, that are more than just a single class...

@rolfl Yes, I've given you several Java zombies that you have reviewed, now it's time to pay back! :)

A: Basic Rock-Paper-Scissors implementation

Simon André Forsberg I like your usage of Java 8. I'm learning a lot just by reading your code. I'm loving Java 8 a lot and I haven't even used it myself yet. Use a GestureRule class. Take a look at The Mug's Main class and/or The Monkey's static initializer in his enum. Your current way is error prone and causes so...

@BenVlodgi Right now, I want to make 10k before the Mug does. But after that, I have some ideas :)
@skiwi and/or @rolfl Is there a simple way to convert Integer[] to int[] with Java 8 ?

Sure

@SimonAndréForsberg I'll check later, busy atm
Hmm why is this not working
public static Collector<User, ?, List<User>> singleElementCollector() {
    Collector<User, ?, List<User>> listCollector = Collectors.toList();
    return Collector.of(
            listCollector.supplier(),
            listCollector.accumulator(),
            listCollector.combiner()
    );
}
For people pointing out the uselessness of it.. It is a work in progress :P

@skiwi I think you might need to do public static <E> Collector<User, E, List<User>> singleElementCollector() {

good catch for sure there
or no, doesn't matter there

@rolfl Any idea how?

@SimonAndréForsberg - :
 int[] result = Arrays.stream(data).mapToInt(a -> a).toArray();

Ah, thanks.

5:47 PM
but I do want to have the user typed as E actually

@skiwi - does that look sane?
(why do I need the a -> a ? )

Because you cannot map it else
There's another way I think @SimonAndréForsberg
Integer[] integerArray = new Integer[1024];
int[] intArray = new int[1024];
Arrays.setAll(intArray, i -> integerArray[i]);
You can even do it parallel then
it simply maps the index of intArray to the element it should be set to
Meanwhile I'll continue bashing my head on as to why this doesn't work:
public static <E> Collector<E, ?, List<E>> singleElementCollector() {
    Collector<E, ?, List<E>> listCollector = Collectors.toList();
    return Collector.of(
            (Supplier<E>)listCollector.supplier(),
            (BiConsumer<List<E>, E>)listCollector.accumulator(),
            (BinaryOperator<List<E>>)listCollector.combiner()
    );
}

Collector<E, ?, List<E>> <-- can't have a '?' there
try with public static <E, F> Collector<E, F, List<E>> singleElementCollector() {

It doesn't complain

Really?
Oh, perhaps not...
But agh, those casts.... they don't look nice.

5:52 PM
It even breask it actually as Collectors.toList() really has that ?
I don't even know fi the casts are neccessary btw, was something desperate :P

What exactly doesn't work then?

@skiwi - why save it as listCollector.... why not just return Collectors.toList() ?

@rolfl I need to do something with it afterwards
I want to inject a finisher in it... hence I need to obtain those first

You are doing it wrong by cheating with the supplier/combiner/etc.
You can't just borrow them from the Collectors.toList().

:(
I coudl also have just copied them over directly...

5:56 PM
> The method of(Supplier<R>, BiConsumer<R,T>, BinaryOperator<R>, Collector.Characteristics...) in the type Collector is not applicable for the arguments (Supplier<E>, BiConsumer<List<E>,E>, BinaryOperator<List<E>>)

Thanks, Netbeans.

ryvantageI am trying to use Java 8 Streams to find elements in a LinkedList. I want to guarantee, however, that there is 1 and only 1 match to the filter criteria. Take this code: public static void main(String[] args) { LinkedList<User> users = new LinkedList<>(); users.add(new User(1, "User1"...

@SimonAndréForsberg too lazy to check .Count? or !list.Any()?

Your name needs to be in that space.

6:20 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg there: public static bool IsEmpty<T>(this IList<T> list) { return !list.Any(); }

@Mat'sMug Technically .Count could take longer time for some implementations than using an IsEmpty method. Although nearly all implementations these days do keep track of the count.

That's exactly why !Any() is better than Count == 0
